Since this thread had degenerated so badly with the exception of a few posts, I thought I would come back to it and add a story. Have you ever had to do word problems where you are given a bunch of statements that dont seem to make sense, yet you need to organize them in a way that does make sense and is supported by the statements. That is what this story attempts to do, take all that is out there , and incorporate it into one concise story that makes sense.
This is as far as I know a fictional account of events and any similarities to the truth are purely accidental.
..The Story of Duane Dwyer..
Some time in the year of our Lord 1960 or 61 a new baby was born. His proud parents named him Duane Thomas Poland Jr.. Some time after his birth he lost his father, either due to death or divorce isnt known and is not relevant to this story. Some time after this his mother remarried a gentleman named Duane Dwyer. This man became Duane Polands step dad. He was everything a little boy would want in a father, a United States Marine, and a sniper to boot. The young man in honor of his step father and because of the love he had for him started using his last name. There is nothing illegal about this as it wasnt to facilitate any crime or impersonate any one.
The young man grows up and enters into active duty in the Marines on 10/31/79. For the next four years he does his job and at the end of his enlistment 10/28/83 leaves the Marines after having served proudly. Little is known what transpired during the next 15-16 years during this mans life other than some where along the way he met Mick Strider and they decided to start making knives together. Their knives are well made hard use knives and they catch on with military and Leo types. Up until this time all their knives are customs.
They decide that they want to expand in order to reach more people and produce more knives. Finances are tight. Duane Dwyer (the step dad) has a lot of love and respect for his son and has also retired from the marines by now and is a little bored, so he offers to finance the operation and become a silent partner. His reputation and contacts will also help open some doors to this fledgling business.
The business starts to take off slowly and catches the attention of a writer from Tactical Knives who writes an article that is published in May of 1999 and Strider Knives is born officially on 09/07/2000. The business grows and the military is interested in their knives so on 01/05/2001 Duane Dwyer (step dad) files incorporation papers in California.
At some point Poland joined the Del Rey Police Dept as an auxiliary. On his application he listed Duane Dwyer as an alias which is perfectly legitimate. He was hired and has been there ever since where he serves as a SRT member.
Sometime during this time Strider Knives spun off a LLC named International Training and Operations Group other wise know as ITOG. They hired the best trainers available to teach these classes.
Moving up to more recent history, Duane Poland/Dwyer stopped posting on the internet any where this person can find shortly after the first dust up about Mick. He put his time into his family and business minding his own affairs and has and still continues to do that till today.
THE END
Now just a few notes:
This is what got me to thinking along this line of thought.
At 07:25 PM 12/18/2007, you wrote:
Nope. There is no Dwyer or Poland on our membership roster in the Active Members or New Applicants. They are not members of the USMC Scout/Sniper Association.
Notice it states active or new members. Could his step father have been a past member who let it lapse for some reason.
Marine Corp. Sniper (ret.) and co-owner of Strider Knives (center kneeling), poses with an ACE M4 SOCOM and his SRT team.
When you go to the actual site where this picture is hosted you see that this was added by the site. It says he is a retired sniper, could who ever vetted this for the site found a retired marine sniper named Duane Dwyer (Duane's step father) and figured they were 1 and the same.
This was all conjecture on my part in trying to make some sence of what is posted on pownetwork.
