Strider PT. 30 disappointing minutes.

No thanks needed Aaron. Just stating some very obvious facts based on 30+ years of hanging around knife folks that seem to be overlooked if not discounted by a few.

But it did. Prices dropped, the after market dissapeared, places held on to stock longer, other places stopped selling them all together.

I really don't think it did. I mean Striders are still hard to come by. The sell up quickly and the secondary market is almost non-existant cause people keep them when they buy them. I remember AR's being $350.00. Seems like you're lucky if you can find one for that these days... I've been looking for one cause I want one LOL. I think there is a certain niche market of the knife community that will not buy a strider cause they have their head tied up around what the military is doing, or what someone said about the military, or who went where and did what. But I think the majority of people could really care less. I know I don't... I like the Strider AR and I'm gonna have one. Is Mick Strider a bad guy? I don't know... never cared enough to find out... Love that knife though. All the military stuff means nothing to me.

And the problem is if a Company or the people behind it lie about one thing, how do I know they arent lying about something else? All of a sudden them telling my SmF was supposed to do that became a question of: well is it really? Or are they just saying that because their reputation is more important than the truth?

I don't have the answer to that... but I havent had any problems with it yet so I'm hopeful.

That would be true if Strider products weren't so completely tested and raved about by their owners. I agree... an unknown maker who was found to be full of crap... one would have to wonder about the quality of their product... but the Strider product proves over and over again to be a durable well made knife regardless of their marketing strategy. I wished McDonald's hamburgers were as delicious as their commercials lead you to believe. But they aren't LOL. As I stated earlier... I pay more attention to the product then the marketing... I don't need my knife maker to be honorable... I just need them to make a good knife. Some people put too much of themself into their purchase and do the whole "No liar is gonna get my money"... and that's cool... but that liar... if they make a fine product such as Strider... will sell it to someone. I'll be tickled pink when I get an AR. I could care less about someone's military service.

Speaking as a moderator:

I am so glad you made this clear. I honestly worry I sometimes take too harsh a view of people because of one incident. But now you've reassured me that my initial negative impression of you was entirely justified.

Some "honor code crap about military service"? Is that a simple insult or trolling? Behave yourself. Strider threads often bring out the worst in people. You haven't much farther to go.

I don't understand what you mean. I think it is crap to judge a product based on it's maker. I'm not trolling, and I am behaving myself. I don't have to personally care about the same stuff you do. I'm not saying that anyone else can't feel how they want to. I'm just saying it doesn't matter to me. That's all. I completely respect someone else's opinion on it. I'm just stating mine. When it comes to buying a Strider... I don't really care about all the military stuff. It just doesn't mean anything to me. If I like the knife... I'm gonna buy the knife.

The vast majority of knife collectors who know what they are doing care.

Can you go into a little more detail about what this means? Know what they are doing with what? Do you mean like how to use a knife? Cause I've used knives all my life and know what I'm doing fairly well... and any personal stuff about Mick Strider doesn't play any role in my choice to buy a Strider. The fact that they are well made knives does.

The vast majority of people who have actually put their lives on the line for their country care.

That was kind of my point. My buddy is a soldier, served in Iraq several times and is now a DI... He get's seriously angry at people who tell stories about doing something in the service that they didn't. And he talks all about the honor code and all that... and he just looks at me like I'm supposed to feel the same way and I just laugh. It just doesn't effect me the way it does him. I could really care less about it... but he takes it like someone just spoke ill of his mother LOL. So I get it... Joes, and prior service guys take this stuff really seriously... But other folks on average don't pay attention to it. I've met guys that told me they were navy seals before... maybe they were telling the truth... maybe they were lying... don't know... didn't care. And it wouldn't be an issue in my choice to buy a knife. I'm not trying to put down soldiers or anything... just that the honor code stuff they get so worked up about doesn't mean anything to me cause I don't live in that community.

If you took your car or your airplane to a mechanic that had built his rep on being a mechanic in the service only to find out later that not only was he never in the service but he never went to school at all to learn how to be a mechanic and he just did your brakes or just did your pre flight check on your plane before take off would it matter to you then?

You know honestly many people lie. Doctors that are not really doctors, yet still perform plastic surgery, dentists that never went to dental school but do dentistry anyways and maybe a few patients still go to them even after they've been on 20/20 because they are cheap and I guess they have that right to be stupid if they want or can't help it but I think the vast majority do take it in and realize it does matter. There are even some guys out there that trained our troops and our law enforcement officers and even gave them continuing education credits for what they taught which would be great but they didn't have any real training themselves to even make them capable of teaching such things. Your friend isn't so much as looking at you like you spoke ill of his mother he is looking at you wondering why you can't see that a phony just like he speaks of could get him killed because he didn't know what he was doing and taught a class full of people that took his training serious only to go into something not only ill prepared but not even prepared at all.

Justify it all you want with the line that we are talking about a knife here not a tooth extraction or sniper training or anything else you can think of but it does matter and for more reasons than just the honor code. That code of conduct comes from people earning it. In my experience the guys that disregard that honor code are the least honorable of all.

It is written in plain straightforward English and it is a fact that should not be that hard to comprehend.

just that the honor code stuff they get so worked up about doesn't mean anything to me cause I don't live in that community.

But you do, "live in that community" , right here on BF , most people
here care about honor & honesty .

On topic !

All knives should come in a box , with paperwork , thats my opinion , mkay ?

If that were the only thing you had ever written on BF it would tell me all I need to know about you. Honour, honesty and integrity are values that I value and I'm sure many others here do to. I would not deal with a person like you if I was paid to. You couldn't GIVE me a knife! The fact that you don't value these things very clearly indicates the type of person you are. I find it hard to believe that anyone on BF, after reading that, would ever deal with you.

No, I don't care what you think of my opinion. I value your opinions about as much as I value your integrity.

LOL, Ok. I just don't see what a guys background has to do with being able to make a good knife. If Mick Strider said he killed a dragon it wouldn't change to quality of the Strider Knives. if you feel the need to wrap your personal feelings in with the products you buy... that's your business and you can do as you like. Personally if the product is good... I want to own it. I don't really care if the person making it is a good person or not. Take for instance some find being a Christian to be very important... if a knife maker were an Atheist but made a fine blade... I'd buy the knife if I liked it... it wouldn't matter to me what his stance was on that personal issue. It just doesn't matter.

SJ...I think it would be one thing to state "you don't get it" (mil honor code)...but, you don't have to get it, to respect it. I was all for your post(s) and opinion(s), to a point...But, it may be the "LOL" and other comments that are firing people up....lots of people gave their asses for that honor code

that being said...opinions are like a$$holes...everyone has one and they all stink! ;)

No not really. He takes it as a slap in the face to what he's done and been through. He's explained it to me... it just doesn't hit home with me because... Like most guys in the service say "You don't understand unless you've been there and done that"... and I haven't so it doesn't matter to me. You guys are taking this real personal as if I'm saying troops are stupid or something... that's not where I'm coming from at all. I'm saying it's crap to drag an honor code problem into a freaking knife purchase. Do I want someone putting my buddy's life in danger by lying? No way Hose. But do I care if a knife maker makes up a story as long as the knife is of quality... no... not really. In that respect all I care about is the quality of the knife and not the quality of it's maker. I don't need a knife maker to be a good guy... I need his knives to be good knives. The rest isn't important. It's the quality of the gear.

The fact that you say this shows you understand the flaw in your analogy. We are just talking about a knife. If Mick Strider were labling himself a super soldier and then went into combat with American troups... it ABSOLUTELY matters because like you said... it could get them killed and that is not acceptable. But we're talking about a guy that made some stuff up to sell knives. And anyone who would buy a knife regardless of it's quality just because it was produced by someone who was in the service is gonna get just that... good or bad. But to purchase a knife that is proven to be well made and of great substance regardless of the makers character flaws means you're getting a product that is well made and of great substance. It's just that simple to me.

I won't argue with you. I don't know what you mean by that but I'll not push the issue since you don't think much of me anyway.

Steel-Junky, you strike me as the type of lowlife that if ever presented with the opportunity to buy stolen knives from a known thief, you'd buy as many as you could as long as the price was right.

How do you like being regarded as a scumbag?

But you do, "live in that community" , right here on BF , most people

You're painting with too broad a brush there. When I make a deal with a member here I am honest and up front with them. I've made several such deals and all that I have dealt with have been pleased with my honesty. i don't have any negative comments on my itrader count. What I'm saying is to drag the code of honor stuff about a knife maker and judge the quality of his product by it isn't logical. It's basically saying "You're a liar... so this gold brick you're giving me has no value"... this isn't so. If Strider were lying about the quality of his product... then it would be a different story. He is lying about the quality of his character... the two are very different. And we know the product is quality because so many have owned, used, tested, and commented positivley on them. I could care less if Strider himself is a good guy. As long as his company makes a good product and backs up the warranty... I like them. I don't know or care to know Mick Strider... he doesn't matter to me.

I'm trying to work out what is wrong with this guy. He's not your normal troll, I don't *think* he's simply trying to cause trouble, I think he just has a basic character flaw, he is unable to understand the concept of integrity. I'm not sure where that fits, Borderline Personality Disorder, maybe something tending towards sociopath, who knows, but it's a definite defect of some sort.

I guess, in the end, it doesn't really matter, I certainly won't be dealing with the guy and I doubt any other sane person reading this thread would either. If you can't grasp integrity, I can't imagine you could grasp the concept of doing a deal the right way.

All part of the rich tapestry of life I guess. As always, caveat emptor.

You know, you're just embarrassing yourself here. You really are a moron beyond comprehension in a community full of good people who thrive off of the notion of integrity and honor.

You are probably very young and I hope you learn something about that while hanging around this place.

Personally, I think you'll get banned before the end of March, and BF and its spectacular knife community will be a better place for it.

Maybe... I'm thinking people are taking my comment to mean that I am anti-soldier. And if that's the case I want to clear that up. My best friend is in the Army. I love him and would die to protect him. I was sick when he was in Iraq because I was afraid of losing my friend. When I say crap... I mean the crap of dragging the military honor code stuff into a knife purchase decision. It is crap to me... not the honor code... but involving it with something as unimportant as a knife purchase... when all that should matter is the quality of the product. plenty of people buy diamond rings for their chicks and think nothing of it... you know what goes on in the diamond trade? Much dishonesty and cut throat tactics... but in the end getting the product is what matters to people. We all enjoy some fine leather even though many places are needlessly abusive to animals in it's production. No one thinks if Bill Gates is a bad guy when we're all typing away on computers that run his software. And even if he were we'd still use his products cause we want them. I don't see why Knives get the whole honor code thing tangled up with them. I don't really need to feel connected to the maker of a knife to enjoy their product.

I wouldn't buy stolen goods because that's illegal. I buy quality when i see it regardless of if the source is a likable person.

As far as being considered a scumbag? Whatever LOL. I've been called worse. I don't have any hard feelings. My point of view is unpopular... fine... I can deal with that.
