Super polished edges

I love this. May I ask what you did to achieve this finish?

The short answer is time, but I'm sure you want to know more than that. For the blade polish, nothing more that metal polish. I started with a Dremel and buffing disk. However, that left some swirl marks that bothered me. To resolve that, I simply hand polished with the same compound. I think it was Mothers brand. I spent about three hours rubbing the blade. It was very satisfying and a bonding experience! :) I love how the VG10 texture stayed since I never took any hard abrasive to it. The edge was thinned down by hand starting on DTM XC and down to EF. Then, some convex was added with 2000 grit wet dry paper over a mouse pad. I used some really worn down 2000 grit towards the end. I stropped on some old chunk of cutting board wrapped in old dress pants with the same polish. The edge took about two hours total. You see, the real trick is in taking pictures. I have a nice camera and have some practice with macro. I bet I took 100 pictures over several hours with various props. The $100 just looked the best so I posted my work! I have lots of nice edges but don't like to brag. Looking at others work is what I enjoy and this thread is just great. Figured I needed to post some pictures though... give and take.

That's impressive. Thanks for sharing your method.

I suspect I'll probably take a different approach.

Amazing photos by the way.

Slight regrind to full polished convex edge by Waterstoneblades; I hit the edge with a buffing wheel for extra pop & sharpness. Thin and sharp!!!

Did this one a while back (crappy cell pic) edge pro to reprofile and ceramic rod + slotted paper wheel to maintain it as it's a user LOL.

Definitely need to step up my game after going through this thread LOL. :foot:

Your work is just crazy Josh! Vey inspiring every time I see it.
I need to keep practising :)
Touched up my Lionsteel SR2A today on my waterstones and leather strops...
Love that Sleipner steel. Get very sharp and stays very sharp for quite long in my experience.

Thx, Josh. In reality, with my little Lansky set up, I'm assuming it's a 15º...based on trying to position the blade as close to the edge of the clamp as I can (and still maintain a locked/consistent position) to try to get below the designated 17º, which, as you probably know, is the lowest "official" angle Lansky offers. But when I look at work like yours & kwacksters beautiful results...I think I may need to upgrade my setup. But as far as the working edge I'm getting, I'm pretty happy with what I can get.:o
