Super polished edges

Yeah nice work Sabol!!

Haven't been by this thread in a while. Beautiful work by all of you!

Josh,

I'm super curious about that 12dps edge bevel on that PM2. I recently got one of the BHQ CPM-M4 dealer exclusives and measured my freehand reprofiling of the edge bevels at ~8-9 degrees per side, but my edge bevels appear to be a similar width to your 12dps PM2. I wonder if they ended up running the CPM-M4 blades thinner behind the edge?

My edge bevels measure ~0.070" wide and the edge bevel is ~0.020" at the shoulder, so math says ~8 dps:

Not much of a mirror polish, but I don't really bother anymore since I got into coarse particulate abrasive stropping. I'm posting this purely to compare the edge bevel width to that 12 dps s30v PM2.

Man I'm not sure on the measurements, I finally gave it to my friend yesterday... Hopefully I can measure it at some point in the future. I did set the angles with an angle cube though so I'm sure the are correct.

Sabol,

Wow. That is one of the most gloriously excessive things I've ever seen.

Josh,

Yeah, I wasn't doubting your measurements, just noting that it therefore appears that the CPM-M4 blades are thinner behind the edge than the s30v blades since I double checked that my measurements were correct.

Thanks, she thinks the same.

wow nice job.

First picture in post #2 - why the square area marked with sharpie on the clamping area?

The marked area is where the Tormek clamp held the blade while reprofiling it on that machine.
That clamp has an a-symmetric build, so i reclamped the blade precisely when switching sides.
Outlining with a black marker is very helpful with that.

Love the pic on the right :)

Thanks, Josh. I've recently realized that not only do I really enjoy seeing the great edges on this thread...but also seeing the various ways folks are showing how beautiful they can be. Their awesome functionality still has to be felt in hand...but maybe Uber-Smooth-Slicing vids are coming next? Creativity is boundless! :D

I'm bad at holding the knife and taking a pic, came out better then my pics show. This is an M4 Para2 at 12.5 dps. Finished with Edgepro's new 4K polishing stone not tape.

ah cool - makes sense now.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought it was some setup procedure you were doing with the Wicked Edge.

Yep. Just like that! Nice Bobby. Maybe an interesting new trend beginning.

And one of my favorite parts...58 seconds into the vid, this:

Remember the famous "Shower scene" in Psycho? ;)

That's amazing! Tell us how you did it, and how long it took lol. I've polished some auto parts but don't think anything ever looked that good.

Thank you. It takes some serious amount of time and patience, but the result is well worth it.
