Super polished edges

...but maybe Uber-Smooth-Slicing vids are coming next?

I've got a couple of videos that would fit that description.

1) Cross-grain push cuts on phone-book paper with my Calton Cutlery 440C necker. The edge bevel was polished to 13k on SPS-II stones and then microbevelled with Spyderco F rods.

2) Multiple push cuts into a tomato with the same knife at the same finish:

Nice add, Steel_Drake! That's sharp. I like how you illustrate that if the apex is burr free/perfect/sharp enough, it'll slice through easily...regardless of the blade's orientation to the grain of the PB paper. Nice touch.

Scrim,

Thanks. I'm planning to make a couple more of this type of video featuring some apexes finished with coarse particulate abrasive strops. I can get a push cutting sharpness that obviously exceeds the finish in the videos above off a suede bench strop with 16 micron CBN emulsion on it.

Haven't posted in a while this was an edge I put on a 484 I just picked up still debating if I'm going to keep it

The edge on this ceramic knife was polished up to 1 micron diamond compound, and it measures 25 degrees inclusive:

Wow nice work guys!!! Looks like you have been busy Bobby =)

Rob that is sweet you can sharpen that up on the paper wheels, wow! great job!!

Finished this up today.. at 16 dps. Won't be doing one of these Vallottons at this angle again, this took FOREVER. The edge angle at the tip is literally 3/16" wide or so looking at it from the side view. Majorly needs a regrind at the tip for sure! lol. But it turned out great and is whittling hairs.

Made a gorgeous knife...gorgeous-er! I thought about doing my Vallotten. Now I think I'll just live with the factory edge. Thanks for the warning! But boy does that look sweet.

Looks good. Just wondering, is there a reason that the knife setup couldn't be adjusted to take less off in the tip area?

Hey Curtis. Well the way I had it mounted already increased the angle at the tip slightly. I was limited in mounting options w/ the gen 3 vise, more so than the gen 2 (couldn't tilt as much, and limited gripping area) and I had it 'maxed out' as far as straight mounting in the vise. But to answer your question, yes I could have lessened the tip metal removal by using a different mounting option but I wanted this pretty close to 16 dps along the whole length of the edge. The tip is just ridiculously thick on this one so it just never would have cut as well otherwise, and now it can be fully maintained on the sharpmaker =)
