Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

Same excuse for nearly a decade. Curious to hear how abjectnonsense can stand behind guy when he's pushing that con.

I thought we were discussing Survive and all the wonderful reasons why we should pre-order their awesome knives (/sarcasm). Instead, I guess we are playing this quaint little game of "I'll answer your question if you answer mine". Sorry, I think I'd rather watch paint dry.

There definitely is a vested interest in being angry with Survive! and anyone who doesn't hate them.

Anyhoo, how bout that last update?

Considering people have been waiting for their knives for 6-7 years the attempts at humor is a swing and a miss. They should just shut down this pre-order stuff and get those legacy knife orders out of the way. If they can't then they should refund people period.

Guarentees and promises? Nope.

In fairness, I've actually lost track of what point you're trying to convey with your contributions here. If buying their knives makes you happy, then get after it - you don't need us (or anyone) to validate your decisions as a consumer. It just shouldn't come as any surprise if the support for said decisions is a bit lacking in this thread.

Correct, there is nothing funny about folks who are still waiting for their knives. However, I find my jabs at their continual efforts in offering pre-orders to be rather amusing. Being on the outside looking in, being well acquainted with their history, and having my own acumen when it comes to marketing, I find their efforts and business model to be entirely laughable.

It's possible. Let's hear it.

Sure here goes but as a caveat I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I dont expect people to agree with me, that's fine.

Guy made a really good first impression. A while ago I contacted Survive! over a warranty issue on a 3rd hand knife I bought. I wasn't expecting much. I let him know I was the 3rd over. No problem. I sent the knife in and they sorted it out and sent it back, no fuss. I thought it was really good customer service.

I've spoke with him a few time son the phone since and he continued to make a good impression. Yes con artists are good at that. He answered questions I had, was honest about his products including being transparent about some issues they were having with one of the products I was looking at buying. A couple times I had some small issues with my orders or wanted stuff changed and he addressed it right away.

I don't know Guy and he wouldn't recognize my name but Guy and Survive did a good job at making me feel important and like a priority. Again a good con artist will do that but I'm still very happy with my orders and my interactions with them. On a personal level I have zero issues with the service I've gotten and I find him a nice guy.

My view on life is you need to have the emotional intelligence to separate business/work with personal. I had to bust my best friend at work for drinking on the job. Set him back for promotion for a few years and he had to go to spin dry. Still my best friend. Had another close friend who I sent home from a tour overseas because of his behavior, that cost him cash.

This is why I can say I like Guy and dealing with him but don't make excuses for the past behavior (and have repeatedly said unhappy customers should go to the police or take him to court). I also recognize the behavior in the past is shitty. I'm willing to give people multiple chances, I don't condemn others when they don't.

I'm not trying to make any specific points really. I have some differing opinions on Survive! and where they're going than others here and I'm posting about it. Seems like some can't handle it and get really emotional about it, that's not my problem.

Having dipped my own toes in small business (a few of them technically) I'm more surprised than finding it entirely laughable. I would have lost money betting against them being successful but here they are with a terrible reputation of failing to make deadlines, and making people wait years (I never heard of that before reading about them) and yet they seem as popular as ever. I've personally watched their knives sell very quickly on this site, on ebay, on facebook, on other businesses sites. Sometimes those knives sold for twice what Survive! sold them for. Maybe the long waiting periods and limited supply is what jacked up the demand. I wouldn't run a business like Survive! does but to me they found a way to make it work.

The thing is, those ‘past behaviors’ are still going on - he’s still doing the same things today that got him a bad reputation in the first place. You yourself have acknowledged it. It’s certainly your prerogative to keep giving someone chances, but how long do you let it go on, and how many more people have to be harmed, before you say it’s time to stop talking and time prove you’re honestly and sincerely trying to get on the right track? There’s a point where you’re just being gullible if you keep believing the stories when there’s demonstrable evidence to the contrary.

"I'm cool with the con-artist because he was able to con me"

Lol

Too bad robbery is part of how they made their small business work. But, somehow, it worked.

Whoa, whoa, whoa … you call this making it work? I’ve been trying to be reasonable here, but you’re just a bit too far out there. You’re demanding that people here take your opinion seriously, yet you’re disregarding EVERYTHING everybody else has to say, and then back it up with this absolute nonsense? Good luck and have a nice life. I am done.

They're making money, sure seems to be working for them. People waiting on knives not so much.
....and therein lay the point most everyone is making. Why should a knife community dismiss, ignore, downplay or otherwise minimalise such behaviour ? It explains why your feelings for the people at SK simply because they have not treated you poorly, are not well received here. The title of the thread clearly identifies it is not about a general "review" of of the company but calling out their pi$$ poor performance and behaviour recorded over MANY years. I became involved in this forum over a decade ago when I was left swinging by a maker (sheath not knife), others here helped me resolve it and also worked to warn others so they too did not end up getting taken despite that maker's "turnarounds". This place also helped me identify and engage with reputable makers (sheaths and knives) who take pride in their ethics and behaviours and know that the customer comes first. It's all about an informed choice.

Survive continues to ignore production on their 2015, 2017 and 2018 knife orders! 4 months now with no progress.

Looks like they are making progress on some other blades. 😬

2015: 0.0% in 1 month
2016: 0.3% in 1 month
2017: 0.0% in 1 month
2018: 0.0% in 1 month
2019: 5.0% in 1 month
2020: 0.6% in 1 month
2021: 1.2% in 1 month
2022: 5.4% in 1 month

I guess the thing I wonder every time I see this is "why do we believe their self reporting?"

They shouldn't. I think that's been repeated ad nauseam.

I get it. I'm neither surprised nor upset. Anytime someone here deviates from the accepted hate for Survive is automatically considered a troll/shill/spy/Guy in drag. I find it funny, bordering on McCarthyism in it's intensity.

It does. It's clearly a thread to highlight their past and on going bad behavior and broken promises. It's clearly reached a few people, including Survive! themselves who have referenced it in their videos. I think some posters here just hear what they want to hear. Lots of straw-men.

It's a great website for that.
