Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

I made my purchase on February 23rd so it took about 10 weeks just a little bit longer than the 15 business days they list but it was worth the wait. I wouldn't wait years like some people though.
Thanks.

That is an exceptional performance from Survive, maybe a record.

I really hope I don’t get sh@t on for writing this but I’m writing to give feedback on my Survive Knives GSO 5.1 Magnacut cerakote purchase.

5/7/2023 I made the purchase

5/16/2023 I received my tracking information

5/17/2023 The package was accepted at the post office

5/20/2023 I received my package containing the GSO 5.1 Magnacut cerakote

Honestly I was very reluctant to make the purchase because of everything I’ve seen about Survive’s past. Like many people, I was waiting to have my confirmation bias affirmed regarding their poor communication and extensive wait despite their advertising. If I didn’t receive anything after the 15 days advertised on their site, I was willing to raise hell because I don’t have the patience or tolerance that most people do when it comes to spending $300+ and not receiving anything. If any of y’all can find it in your heart to forgive the previous delays and seemingly poor practices of Survive’s past and look to their future, you’ll then allow yourself to have access to knives with some of the best quality and performance in the world. Believe me, I know it’s a lot to ask given all the previous issues, but my purchase took a total of 13 days to arrive. I have to say that I’d recommend Survive Knives.

*my best advice is to use PayPal when you check out. PayPal has a very strict refund policy that protects the buyer as long as their claim in legitimate. Call paypal and find out for yourself.

T Tools_and_Tights I am glad you got your knife.

can you share why you believe S! Knives offers “some of the best quality and performance in the world.” ???

It’s nice you are happy with your purchase, but this statement seems ridiculous. At $300 S! knives don’t even seem like a decent value, ignoring the bad business practices over the last decade or so.

Their own data on unfulfilled orders stretching back to 2015 is all o need to know. Confirmation bias has nothing to do with it.

Congratulations, you got a knife they messed up and put a paint job on to dress it up a bit. S!K periodically sells factory seconds because they’re the only knife company in the world who doesn’t know how to reliably make a knife.

Even when they have completed knives in stock it’s a 15 day turn around? Most places can get a package out the door within 2. And then one guy got his 5.1 in 10 weeks (50 days).

Well, it’s clear you wanted the knife, not the opportunity to raise hell. You didn’t buy one to put them to the test. You wanted an expensive factory second. You got it! That’s excellent. Now realize there’s people who’ve paid money for a knife that they haven’t seen in like 8 years.

ETA: I'm realizing now that the 5.1's don't have the decarburization problems- that's the 4.5 models. Either way, I can't believe I have to make that distinction for a company charging 250-300 dollars for a knife.

You got the knife two days ago and you’re saying they’re one of the best performing in the world?

What mediums have you cut with this knife?

How did the edge retention seem to you after extended use?

Did you sharpen the knife after extended use, and did you find any chips or rolls in the edge?

How did the cerakote finish hold up?

Did you find any hot spots with the handle design after extended periods of use?

You know this guy's suffering from the buyer's high, and you're asking critical questions like this?
You cheeky devil.

Looking forward to the $300 S!K buyers remorse phase.

After my experience getting a refund after waiting over a year and a few robo-email responses, and excuses when I did hear from Ellie- I would not trust anything they sell, and would not own a knife from them at any price point simply out of not wanting to support such crappy people.

I’m sure it sliced printer paper well! It’s one thing for Tights to share his purchase experience but to then go full on S!-tard and claim they’re the best performing in the world is just feeding the bullshit meter.

(But I know you know this lol)

I feel like somewhere in this thread is a post that is about 90% exactly the same as T Tools_and_Tights just reads like shill garbage add to it we have others reporting within the last week that they just now got their knife they ordered over a month ago. I see far more complaints about this company than praise combined with proven, by their own data, that they have outstanding orders which are so long past due you would struggle to dispute the charge with your CC company even if you wanted to.

🤣

Honestly, if I spent $300 bucks on a S!K, I'd be trying to convince myself I like the knife, too.

You can throw it on the stack of, "I got what I wanted, everyone should love them!" responses.

You only got your blade because that was a blank someone else paid for and ordered most likely years ago, but survive ended up screwing them over and then rebranding that previously paid for blank as an available now blade that’s cerakoted to hide decarburization imperfections. Have fun enjoying the knife that survive should have had to the original customer years ago, regardless of a bad batch of heat treated blanks that happened in the past 5 or so months

I believe this because this is my 3rd knife from Survive. I also have one of their early model GSO 5.1 in 3v and a GSO 12 in 3v and they contend really well with some of the other knives I have in those categories. In your opinion, how would you compare a Survive knife to something like Bark River?

The 5.1 did have the decarb issues. There were a handful of models including the gso 5.1’s and 4.5’s, plus the EDC 2.7’s and 4’s, and the v4. They are trying to hide it maybe because they don’t have the 5.1 listed under their production now as a decarbed blade, but he has previous posts stating the 5.1’s were affected. Some were even affected badly enough that they had to regrind them down to .170” from .190” to get through the bulk of it. If the blade has this latest cerakote finish on it, it’s because it was a decarb’d blade.

Thank you for the congratulations! I will enjoy it because I paid for it 😊 are you sure the decarburization occurred with their batch of 5.1’s?
