Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

In all seriousness. if Guy intends to show up uninvited at NSM tomorrow, I hope that Bob Shabala has read this thread or been notified by associates to take appropriate measures in advance.

I'm in no position to evaluate Guy's state of mind, but given the tenor of his comments, videos, et al. I'd not leave things to chance under the circumstances.

LOL. You just can’t walk in to most businesses. It’s not Home Depot for crying out loud. He won’t make it past the reception area. And if he is unwelcome they may be waiting and send him on his way lol.

How funny would it be if Böhler was aware of how Survive is handling this. Zee Germans don't care for obscene unprofessionalism. Eventually Böhler will become one of the scapegoats if they get in bed with him. You can't charge enough to someone like Guy if you have to consider a decade of mud slinging and attorney fees.

Short version: Guy is not issuing refunds because it ait his fault.

One of the (many) very problematic issues with S!K / Guy is that he takes customer's money, does not fill their order FOR YEARS and refuses to issue refunds. He has said on video that he would "fight" customers over refunds. There are a lot of customers that cannot get S!K to respond to refund requests. Here are a comment where Guy touches on the refund issue.

From the comments of today's video:

Customer - Hey. I emailed Tyler about a refund. He told me he was going to forward it to Ellie. Have not heard anything back. Can you let me know what is going on? Thanks

@SurviveKnives - Hey there, with the situation we've been left with, we very much need to work our way out of this.
Our insurance company's position is the situation is the liability of the supplier or manufacturer of the materials, so we don't have coverage. I have reached out to Niagara Specialty Metals to inquire about their insurance information, I have just not heard back.
We need to get these material reports they say they have, to be able to move forward with something like that. This has absolutely crippled our small business but we are working our way out of it.
We utilize preorder money to buy materials and to make the knives you ordered. We never imagined the materials company would take this position on a warranty issue, so we're left to deal with this on our own.
Thing is, he's been making the same excuses for 10 plus years. New people do not know this. Him being able to control the narrative keeps the past hidden on social media.

Remember all that nonsense about no more preorders? It didn't last because that is the only way he runs things. No legit business runs like that long term. Doing preorders and never delivering isn't taking money to buy materials and deliver a product, it's a scam. The reason survive never changed is because it is a long-con, a ponzi-scheme of sorts. People only seeing this iteration may not realize.

I don’t typically get involved with this type of thing but I stumbled across this thread while looking for feedback on a knife website (I’ve subsequently found it seems legit).

On my lunch break flicking through a few of these videos and noticed that 4 weeks ago there was a video about edc-4 availability and closing backlogs where the blanks in the background don’t seem to have been whittled down much on todays video.

Thanks for the thread, it has served its purpose and after reading both sides I now consider myself informed enough to make my own decisions on this maker.

Edit: fixed poor spelling

Larrin Larrin . I'm wondering what your take is that Survive is making that Magnacut is prone to inclusions and Crucible is ruining it.

In the video from this week, in a comment Guy says "other makers" are noticing this as well.

Seems to me it's demonstrably libel/slander.

Yes sir. People telling others what terrible experiences they had trying to get either a knife paid for in full from months or years prior, or a refund certainly is not fabricated. If they pulled up all the negative posts that Guy and his crew deleted from their own social media, I am sure they look worse.

All he needed to do was fulfill orders chronologically or at least in batches and be honest about delivery/production dates instead of the same regurgitated excuses and delays.

Yep! When I ordered a Randall Made in early 2016 they made sure I knew it would be fulfilled in 2020. I got the knife March 2020. I don't see people accusing Randall Knives of taking money and not delivering, because they are (1) upfront with the wait and (2) were only taking deposits, and (3) were not bypassing people who have been waiting for years in order to shore up cash flow with new sales.

Perfect example. I would not not hesitate to order a knife from my favorite makers if there was a long wait. Honest communication and ethical business practice should not be difficult.

There are so many great makers who not only turn out phenomenal products, but have fantastic customer communication. Those are the makers I want to support.

I wouldn't expect Larrin to be commenting in this thread. The matter will be resolved between the principals, and, if necessary, their legal representatives.

Larrin is successful, educated and innovative. Everything Guy isn't. He doesn't need to.prove anything, he's done that already with the thousands of examples out there from a lot of different makers that people are happy with.
If Guy has made thousands of anything knife related - other than orders he's failed to fulfill - I'd be greatly surprised.
The thing is like a lot of these scams the majority won't speak up and for most buyers the lawyer is more costly than the lost dough.
Guy should get out and work in something he'd be less sleazy at, like payday loans or buy here pay here car lots.

Yeah, I was upset last night when I posted this. I really despise con artists, and Survive claiming victim status and painting Magnacut and Crucible as the true villain just ticks me off.

Understandable. I'm sure the vast majority feel similarly.

FWIW, and without going into any detail, I have had some limited communication with those being attacked in these daily tirades, and they are taking the necessary and proper steps to protect themselves and their businesses, and have competent counsel to wage battle on their behalf should it become necessary to do so.

They are far more able and equipped to handle this debacle than we are.

Beyond that, my only wish is for those who are due knives or refunds to be made whole, and for Survive! to receive its just deserts.

After almost 4 months, Survive posted an update. Based on all of the videos of production, you would have been under the impression that a lot of orders were going out. But the percentages have not really moved.

2019 and older orders have come to a complete halt.

2015: 0.0% in 4 months
2016: 0.0% in 4 months
2017: 0.0% in 4 months
2018: Complete
2019: 0.0% in 4 months
2020: 0.5% in 4 months
2021: 1.3% in 4 months
2022: 2.4% in 4 months
2023: 2.9% in 4 months

*Now that we know that Survive! counts refunded orders as "Complete", we can't tell how much progress they actually make on older orders.

@Survive! "We utilize preorder money to buy materials and to make the knives you ordered."

It's almost like this is a recipe for disaster!
It's almost like Blade Forums saw this coming a mile away!

Guy's been off gambling with other people's money and it didn't work out.
shocking!
