Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

I appreciate the objectivity, but this isn’t really the place to step back and consider the quality of the product. You might ask yourself what you hope to gain by insisting S!K is high quality. Quality doesn’t matter a lick if folks can’t get their knives in a timely fashion (if ever).
Or giving advice on how to buy from a con man.

I was just replying to a comment that their knives are garbage. They are not. Company is garbage, yes. The knives are not. I am actually using the knives, not just collecitng them in drawers... thats all.
Is that from when you put that big chip in?

I disagree totaly. Quality is top notch. I had several TRC knives, and I must admit that SK fit and finish is the same level if not better. Performance also, heavy batoning wood, feathersticking.... not telling you should buy the knife, because if you pay for preorder you will probably never get it, but if you get one somehow (I bought in-stock), they are very well made. I had 10 bark rivers, sold them all. fallknivens, casstroms, jokers, MKM, Lionsteels.... I had over 80 fixed blades in one time, and over last year sold almost all of them, but I kept: GSO8, GSO4, GSO4.5 scandi, TRC Apocalpse and 2 custom magnacut knives of my design (modern large leuku and small puuko both convex). I know a thing or two about knives, and I can tell, SK fit and finish, and performance are 10 out of 10, but only if you can get one, I agree, company is full of BS in bussiness... But If I from europe coud get 4 of their knives (I sold GSO3.5 when I got GSO4, liket GSO4 more) they are not that unobtainable, just buy smart, buy in stock, and ask for refund (from paypal, not SK, they wont answer the emails LOL) within 15 days if not delivered, simple as that.
Funny because I sold my two survive knives when I got into the custom market and found quality makers. Survive doesn’t have the handle ergos of a good custom. Survive uses overly thick stock for their short knives imo, and doesn’t do anything special to lighten the tang to counteract it. Survive doesn’t hardness test their knives either and obviously is doing something wrong in their processes as well. There’s nothing that makes a magnacut scandi from survive carve or cut any better than one from another company or custom maker assuming the geometry is similar, which can be easily changed yourself, and any decent maker will have good geometry already. Why give money to a business like survive when you can find another company or even better yet, a custom maker who will have great communication and be much more deserving of your support. There’s no chance you actually think survive is somehow better quality than everything else just because they have better fit and finish than your old bark rivers and a few European brands like lionsteel and joker rofl.

I don't have an issue with stating that a maker is talented but also less than honorable. (Most of you can name some.)

In my twenty-five plus years here, I've come across more than a few...and even dealt with some personally until I knew better.

In every instance I either banned them from the site, sold or gave away their knives if I owned any, or got my money back if they hadn't been delivered.

In a perfect world, talent, honesty and integrity would be present in equal measure. Unfortunately, that is not (always) the case.

There is nothing wrong with saying a competent product can be made by a flawed company or individual. I just refuse to endorse or support them.

Absolutely true. As always, you are a voice of reason in world bereft.
It's also true that the available pool of DELIVERED product, to judge quality by, is extremely limited, and the maker himself is telling everyone who'll listen that there are flaws. Of the very few who have received samples of the product, and posted here, the reviews are mixed.
I also object to some people giving pointers on how to buy from, and subsequently support, a maker with no observable integrity, but who is instead a very obvious con man.

With many very talented and honorable makers in Europe, it is astounding that someone intentionally supports this POS and gloat about it.

I won't pretend to have the answer to that.

Is that from when you put that big chip in?
knife on the pictures are GSO8, and GSO4. never chiped.
only knife I chipped is super thin scandi gso 4.5 which I corrected with one sharpening. seems to me you dont know much about scandi grinds and how delicate they can be? the knife is about 3mm thick (gso4.5 scandi we are talking about), with very delicate scandi edge, shouldnt have batoned with it at all, but I wanted to test it. you are looking those chips at very large magnification, If I put a whole knife in the image you wouldnt see them at all. lets not make up stories. we all agree SK is BS company, an not very honest with cusomers, but knives are some of the best I had chance to play with.

My Mora Companion and Mora Classic have scandi grinds. I've batonned with them. I've never gotten chips like that. They cost <$20. They aren't in a "super steel". Mora also isn't in the Ponzi business. They actually deliver all of their orders.
We're all VERY impressed that you got your knives from the scammer, and that you like them so much. Others didn't like them as much. Most of us have principles, and refuse to support thieves.

What are some of the top Euro brands?

Lionsteel has done alright by me. I have no experience with TRC, but heard a lot of good things about them.
Probably would be a good idea to start a new thread on European brands.
This one should stay on the topic of Survive Knives. It is in the GBU.

There's already an "alternatives to Survive!" thread in the GKD forum. We don't need to incorporate that here. Let's keep to the subject at hand, thank you.

I guess I don't much about scandi grinds. Weird how I seem to pick the right tool for the job and not chip blades. Just lucky I guess.

What the What?

I suppose next you will claim to not prepare sushi with a chainsaw!
