Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

But then why get involved? Why make a video defending a guy he doesn’t know? Why try to sell more product for a company he’s not a part of? Why white knight for Survive on Bladeforums?
I don't really know the motivations, and frankly, they don't matter.
It could be that Beachmaster really likes S!K's products and wants them to stick around, and maybe it's as simple as that.
Someone who really understands the situation would know that's an unpopular opinion, but beachmaster wants to defend it to the death.
S!K is not more worthy of salvation and redemption because beachmaster beachmaster believes in them and hopes they'll turn it around.

Don't worry, Guy has tracked the video issue down to the camera lens cap being left on but he's set to get that removed within days.Turning the corner!

Saw on IG that Niagra Specialty Metals has ceased business with them...

good

Well then, I'm not 100% up to speed.
What I meant by that is that I spoke with Bob Shabala personally, so it's a bit different than "hearing" something on IG or other social media platform. (I don't belong to any of those.)

Just vetting the source for anyone concerned with the validity of what is obtained via the web.

oh!

This was a screen shot of the Email from Bob to the "people" at survive.

Gotcha. Bob had sent them to me, but I only reported here on the content. I don't remember having posted the actual text of the email.

In any case, NSM will not, per my last conversation with Bob, be selling any CPM steel to Survive!, and will not honor any warranty for steel sold by a third party to Survive! should any of those vendors decide to provide them with material.

That was the crux...there may be more that doesn't come immediately to mind.

ETA: I am only a conduit. I have no personal interest in the matter beyond my attempts to provide fact based information to this community. Any of my other jibes, quips, remarks or rants are completely my own and not the responsibility of any other party.

Video is up. It's a word salad and not very evidence heavy. He speaks like a man with concrete evidence but I just don't see it.

He references people calling the issues lies or blaming his processes.

Me personally, that's not it. I could see anybody receiving a bad sheet of steel. NSM essentially admitted this and provided replacements. Guy claims the replacements were not enough. Here is where it gets interesting.

How many bad blanks? How many did you cut out?

He references 20%. Then he only shows a handful of bad blanks. If he had cut anywhere near the number of blanks as pre-orders, we are talking at least 500 knives. Therefore, he should have 100 or more bad blades just laying around.

Again, he only shows a couple and HAD to have the samples from NSM back.

Why, doesn't he have a pallet of them?

If I were trying to prove a point, and videos were my thing, I would have made one showing the hundred bad blanks one by one. It would speak volumes and shut me up.

Instead, Guy shows an email referencing a small sample. One which NSM tried to make him whole on. He chose to take it to the Internet instead of getting back to work.

It seems he needs this to be bigger than it is.

Lastly, the knife I ordered nearly 2 years ago was in CMP 3V and yet it never got made.

NSM has posted relatively recently in this thread touching upon these bullet points from a conversation I had with Bob at the end of March:

  • Niagara Specialty Metals (NSM) has processed over 600,000 pounds of CPM MagnaCut since its inception in 2020.
  • From October 2021 until January 2023 NSM has sold or given Survive Knives 1,240 pounds of MagnaCut.
  • Survive complained about MagnaCut back in the fall of 2022. Since then, NSM has offered to take back anything they didn’t want to risk using or that was defective. This was done on three separate occasions and Survive did not take NSM up on the offer.
  • Survive had a large batch of MagnaCut decarbed at Peters in early 2023. This material was analyzed and found to be fine if .002” per side was removed. (Half the diameter of a human hair.)
  • Survive started posting videos about MagnaCut defects so we asked our business lawyer to reason with him to settle the matter. We made a generous offer despite not having evidence that the material was defective. They rejected the offer and said they wanted much more.
  • Guy claimed in a later video that NSM and Crucible are potentially supplying defective material to the aerospace industry. This is why we hired a litigation attorney and issued a cease and desist letter.
  • Further attempts were made to resolve the matter, but we couldn’t reach agreement.
  • NSM ceased discussing the matter with Survive

They have ceased selling or having anything further to do with Survive!

In the video Guy says things. It is really a nonsense word salad. He offers ZERO evidence.

he does not:
give the name of the lab
tell us how much S!K paid
disclose any relationship between S!K and the lab
post what tests were done
post the full results
show results of the S!K sample vs a control group
show proof of or explain what caused the issue

Nothing. After making this issue the centerpiece of his social media for half a year, he refuses to back-up his claims. He literally doesn't ever offer any evidence that he had issues, let alone that NSM was at fault. Not really surprising given Guy's history, but this was a really weak attempt to divert attention from S!Ks backlog and unfulfilled promises...

Guy has posted his latest spew of verbal diarrhea that ends with him stating: “I really just want to make knives.”

Wow, NOW he finally decides he wants to make knives. Ten years gone.

Guy claimed he had 30 bad blanks in the video he sent me a couple weeks ago. He created all this drama over 30 bad blanks...... He also said he wanted to buy more MagnaCut. I declined his request and told him it probably was not suitable for his process.

Well done, sir. Well done.

Thanks for posting!

30 out of how many? 100? 300? What caused the blanks to be "bad"? I keep on hearing Guy say a lot of words, but he refuses to provide ANY real details or support for his claims.

IMHO, given Guy's history, his problems with Magnacut are just another excuse to cover his incompetence.
