Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

Always remember, they are for the most part just entertainment. They need to get clicks to make money. Why not include a controversial defunked company? It will evoke emotion across the board.
They even said EVERYONE got their knives, they just had to wait, absolutely ridiculous.

Oh yes, I just wanted to set the record straight because he seems confused about what actually happened. If you go back and read his interactions here, he spends most of his time gaslighting and obfuscating by arguing semantics. He told us since we don't know how many unfulfilled orders there are, our speculation is ignorant. Welp, turns out we were right and the last ten years of survive con-artistry was important evidence in determining that survive was In fact not turning it around yet again.
It's ironic that Survive's own progress chart was enough evidence to show that they were really behind in orders. Then the fact that they kept on showing stacks of knife blanks that somehow weren't putting a dent in their numbers.

I also like how simple mathematics also eluded him. If Survive's backlog was only a few hundred, the percentage swings would have been more significant after every video update showing they were shipping dozens and dozens of knives.

Since we know you read this thread Mr. beachmaster...

Just so we are clear on what happened with you and survive, you promoted a brand that was stealing from people despite their long history of doing so documented by this forum. You actively helped drive business to a company that took people's money when they knew they weren't going to give them a product. Your videos convinced people to make new orders and for survive to ship knives to new customers when there were already 4,000 unfulfilled orders going back 7 years. Like Jon, you got wrapped up in Guy's con game. You became a pawn. Guy has been doing the same thing for a decade. Don't feel bad. Do man up and admit your mistake, though. This forums was 100% right and you were wrong. Further, you ignored us and helped a company scam people. You should apologize.

A video just popped up on my YT homepage. It is posted by "Shawn Martin" and titled "Survive Knives & Peters Heat Treat Decarburizing Story." The video was posed on the same day the account was started, 6/17/24. The description is as follows:

"If y'all don't remember, Survive Knives had a real bad time with a bunch of Magnacut they sent to Peters heat treating awhile back. Guy Seifert at Survive Knives shared this video with me privately last year. He shared with me to help explain what happened to my Magnacut order at Peters heat treating. The video explained a lot and I feel that Peters really screwed him over. He said recently that he wasn't allowed to post the video but since I had downloaded it already, I'm gonna go ahead and share it. Guy, I'm sorry to betray your trust buddy but your customers deserve to know what they did. You make amazing knives but I think you are too nice sometimes. Peters should have paid for this."

I am going to go out on a limb and say that there probably is no "Shawn Martin," and that this account is a sock puppet for Guy.

You’re not stupid - this is how scams work. They thrive on the innate trustfulness of most people. They count on you seeing all the rosy stuff before the stinking truth, which they perpetrate themselves even further when they can control the narrative on social media. A handful of shills singing their praises doesn’t hurt, either. You didn’t delude yourself, Guy did. I’m really sorry you got taken; I’m sorry for everyone who got taken. When it’s after the fact, it’s easy to see where you might have been able to see what was really going on - as they say, hindsight is always 20/20. But you can’t beat yourself up over it - or your wall.
Thanks man, Much respect and appreciation for your kind words.

And remember that although scumbags like them ruin a knife buying experience, that most knife makers are awesome and honorable. That sour taste will pass when you deal with someone who communicates quickly, turns out fantastic products, and actually cares about the customer. Some great makers on these forums!

I wonder if that means, "Guy has his hand so far up this guy's butt that you can see Guy's fingerprints behind his eyeballs"...

Anybody found anything about liquidation sales or auctions of the inventory or equipment?
It's way too early for the Sharks to be eating the remains, or circling the wagons, etc... I hope the victims get their knives!

Please note how many blades he said were bad around the 45 second mark.

I heard “30” and “9”. The entire business collapsed over 39 bad blanks? He ran up debt everywhere and 4,000 unfilled orders over 39 bad blanks?

This story gets worse, somehow, every day.

Don't be ridiculous. You forgot about bad G10*, bad sheaths*, no capital for screws*, a banana peel left on the factory floor and predatory lending.

*These were actually real.

It sounded like 30 or 40 parts. So you guys sold them 1240 pounds of Magnacut, if we figure 2 parts per pound on average that’s about 2500 parts, let’s say their loss was 50 parts, that would be an actual loss rate of 2%. The conclusion is loss because of any sort of inconsistency in the steel matrix was pretty minimal, and would not have had a meaningful effect on manufacturing operations.

The ultimate effect (according to guys own estimate ) was a 2% increase in the amount of material needed. So that illustrates what we all already knew which was Magnacut was not actually that big an issue, and that video proves as much.

2% of the amount of steel that they purchased comes out to about 24.8 pounds, or about $800 worth of steel. When you consider the scope of a $1 million backlog and $50,000 a month overhead, blaming an $800 issue for your demise it’s just crazy.

Just to put it into perspective, every pound of magnacut they purchased (from NSM), all 1240 pounds of it cost less than one month of their overhead. I’m not saying they didn’t have issues with Magnacut, heck we were all on a learning curve there’s early days with the new steel, but the idea that those issues were ruinous to the company is just preposterous.

impossible...didn't ya see the mop bucket guy rolling the mop bucket back and forth in the videos......

If only he would have charged actual market value of his knives from the get go…

AND ACTUALLY MADE THEM!

I cant believe I ever supported this dude.

I always like the idea that S!K was “local” to my area and made designs I liked, out of materials I liked. I was rooting for what I thought was the underdog. When I did get one in hand it was nice which helped make me root harder for him

Little did I F’n know.

I apologize to anyone that ever bought one based on anything I said
