SURVIVE! Knives EDC-4

Wow, before I was interested. Now I'm a little anxious to handle one of these. Thanks for the updates!

Just wanted to throw some photos up of Kiah's handy work on my EDC-4 model. He currently has one of my knives for templating, so feel free to contact him if you are in need of EDC-4 pants. You can find him here on bladeforums or by contacting him at: Kiah@Kiahdex.com

Kiah absolutely read my mind for the SURVIVE! OEM base clip. Shown in the photo is the high ride version but he is also working on a lower ride version. The clip will easily and securely attach to your pants, a belt, a gun belt, a molle equipment belt or any other 1" or 2" molle platform. The base clip will also support upright and inverted carry. It can even be used in a horizontal configuration, with just a little wiggling. That part was an accident but it turned out really cool. This set up is a little weight forward so you'll want to wear a belt when carrying horizontal. You can also mount the sheath body to your own mounting system or use the slots to lash it to your equipment.

Attaching the base clip to a molle system is very easy. Just remove the clip from the sheath body and secure it to you molle platform. Then simply reattach the sheath body and you are good to go. You can get several clips and very quickly transfer your sheath body from one platform to another, without removing the base clip from each molle platform. The split clip ensures a very secure fit on any molle type webbing platform.

Great looking knives and, based on the videos, it looks like they work hard too! Just checked your website and the EDC-4s are going to be available on my birthday :) Until then, I might have to order a 5.1 this Friday when they come available, there's no need to pre-order is there? Bummed I missed the GSO-10 pre-order..

Also, off-topic, I noticed your OCP name tapes have "spice brown" stitching which I believe only the USAF uses - any affiliation?

Cheers,
Drano

Hey Brother, if you have not found this page yet, swing by and cast a vote. This will pretty much decide if I'll be doing a preorder promotion, like the one you missed out on. I really want to, so I'm hoping the interest is there.

A few shots of some custom, spear point EDC-4's in CPM-3V. These have hand ground bevels, done by me and custom Cerakote paint jobs all around. These are available for sale at Edgeworks Knife &Supply, in Frederick, MD.

Are these custom spear point EDC-4s close to the EDC 4.1 specs you described earlier?

Thank you kindly.

Yes, pretty similar, although you'll notice some slight pommel changes as well, with the GSO-4.1. The lanyard system will be an "out the back" type, to create some more usable handle area. You won't see any lanyard hole from the side profile.

I'm interested in hearing about the subtle changes as well.

Like I said in a previous post, I just need some time to get all of the details buttoned up in solidworks, with blueprinting and such. I don't like to throw my drawings up here any more, with all of my critical dimensions and measurements. As soon as everything is done and verified, you'll see some images. I would expect to have everything buttoned up by Wednesday or so and I'll have the preorder page up by about this coming Friday.

Man, that brown cerakote looks awesome. Will that be an option with the upcoming batch?

In all honesty I am thinking about discontinuing Cerakote after the GSO-10 promo batch. It just gets scarred too easily. I mean as a user, they will wear all the coating off anyway but I should be able to get more out the door than I am without them getting scarred up a little.

I'm probably in the minority, but I say get rid of the Cerakote option. For whatever reason when coating options are available it makes it so hard for me to decide what color to get, and it costs me more money, when as you said, it's gone after some use. So yeah, I much prefer when makers don't even offer the option :)

Im digging the spear point. I love a spear point on a wilderness woods bumming knife. I mean look at all the high end custom/semi-custom wood worker knives from like BHK BRKT Backwoods those are all spear points and for darn good reason. I think this is a great choice to change it to more of a spear point.

As far as coatings go I think the coating would be a good idea on the 3V since it is a carbon blade but its pretty much useless on the ELMAX blades.

Ok, HUGE DEAL. I got a lead on some Bohler M390 for a steal of a price and I'm thinking about grabbing it up, as an Elmax substitute. Would anyone have any objections to that? In my opinion it's an ever better option but it just isn't normally very affordable. I want your thoughts before making a final decision....Go!

From what I have gathered M390 is a slightly improved ELMAX. I would have no problem with a free upgrade :). But how does Peters do with M390, is one question I do have.
