The “Can’t leave anything alone” Thread

I already posted these images in a Hogue thread, but I wanted to share them here too.

This MXG clip now sits just as low or lower than a standard Benchmade clip.

I've had a recent habit of drilling out a recess in knife handles for deep carry clips. I like deep carry clips, but I don't like how raised they are over standard pocket clips. They usually create a slight hot spot when gripping a knife. I think folding knife manufacturers should put a little more effort into making deep carry clips more low profile and not just slap a generic clip on the handle.

I dont think it's a new fad, it's been around for as long as I can remember however I'm not a fan of it. Not to mention if you try to resell the blade you'll have a much harder time.
Well......I think when you mod a knife your making it yours.
I have never really given thought to resale in buying or moding knife.
Also.....if I buy a knife and decide it is not for me. I give it to someone who can use it or enjoy it.
For me it's about collecting knives and fun.

It's no secret that I can't leave anything alone;)

I got WAY into anodizing for a while as can be seen here: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/custom-titanium-anodizing.770502/

And there's a ton of mods by members in this thread: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/knife-mods-did-it-yourself-show-off-your-work.1529522/
The best part of moding a knife........
When someone asks where did you get that.......
I you reply "oh I didn't but it like this".

Still testing things out on the Shaman scales... stonewashed the blue for about 20 minuets then did the bronze color.

Turned out ok, I'm guessing with a more textured surface it would look somewhat different.
This is the 9-volt battery method. Once I've worked more with the DC power supply it will hopefully open up more color options / combos with various forms of ceramic media.

For me it's about collecting knives and fun... just like you my friend. However at times I indulge in knives worth $1,000-$2,000 a pop... I am not going to send in a knife at this price point for a mod for a multitude of reasons.

1) If I didn't like the knife enough to leave it as it was intended from the maker himself, then why in the world am I buying that knife, it's simply just not for me... and i'd move on to looking for another knife that fits what I am looking for, without having to make any mods.

2) Modding the majority of the time voids the warranty. I don't know about you, but one of the main reasons I can justify spending so much on a knife at times, comes down to a bomb-proof warranty... If anything goes wrong with the knife my head is rested as I know it'll be taken care of. Once you mod a knife, you are on your own to fix any problems that pop up in the future.

3) Resale is important to me because I'm not simply going to give away my knife to "someone who can use it or enjoy it"... If the knife costs $1,000+ .... I also have owned hundreds of knives, and the only way I've been able to handle and experience so many is through reselling or trading my knife for somebody else's... Without having to pull more cash out of the bank, I can reallocate funds from a knife I dislike or don't carry anymore to one I've been eyeing up...

4) The next time you buy a knife and decide "its not for you"... please please please think of me when trying to find someone to give it away too...

Cheers!

My price point on purchase is about $200. My budget and income make this a common sense limit.
I enjoy giving a good a knife to someone who not afford to buy one like it..........I think your covered....LOL

I decided to remove the "growth" from the spine of my Zombie Tools Felon. It was there to allow more efficient battoning, but since I have no intention of using this knife in that manner, I ground it down.

I think it looks a lot better now with nicely flowing lines. Zombies don't care what it looks like, but I do. :)

Yes, that is much better, and you could still baton just fine with it, too!
