The 2010 Forum Knife Continues!

You're right on Charlie. I'm not sure if you'd call this a Wharncliffe or a sheepfoot, but it's very like a Hawbaker. It's the same EE #53 pattern as we've been looking at. Nice antique green bone and California clip as well.

With a double spring, so the same thickness.

A GEC No.73 single blade, at 3.75" it's big enough without being like a lead pipe in your pocket.

I think their Congress is well worth considering as well and they will be making them with various blade configurations soon. 3.75" as well.

Another point is that GEC does fantastic bone, smooth or jigged, this is important.
They also offer slant bolsters which can really enhance the look of the knife. Carbon and or stainless are available too.

Between the pics/choices shown so far, I'd go for the trapper/scout first, just like the pattern better. And while I don't have one I have handled that equal end and it is a whopper. I don't do belt sheaths while working anyway, which would pretty much put it right out of the running for EDC duties. I do like the hawbaker style if the EE is the majority pick.

And I don't know if it would push us over the limit being a four blade, but that congress is a real looker. I liked the blade configuration mentioned as well. That would be a heck of a whittlin' knife.

Thanks for the pic!!

I like the jigging on this one!

I do like this pattern, though the clip point posted earlier looks nice too.

I use the reamer/punch on my Victorinox Farmer quite a bit actually. Makes a good scrape for jobs where you don't want to dull your knife edge.

Anyone know what the blade options are in the Trapper?

They have one with a single blade, one with spey and pen blades, and the kind pictured in your first post.

Of those two, I would prefer the equal end. They also have the #89 melon whittler if people are interested in a 3 blade pattern. It's listed as 4".

My vote is for the Equal End with wood scales (ebony!) a spear point blade and anything but an awl.

Although they do make a nice clip blade, I don't think it belongs on an equal end...I'd MUCH prefer a spear blade on an equal end (and black wood or black micarta, or one of those groovy resins that GEC uses).

They make an AWESOME toothpick too. I'm just saying...It would fit the bill for a big knife and a little on the lighter side to help with EDC.

Russell, would it be possible to see a top view of that knife closed? I'm curious about how thin it is - or isn't:confused:. Thanks. P.S. I really like it.

The Trapper in the first post looks the best to me. Whatever y'all choose for the 2010 forum knife, I'll take one.

Berkley. Here is the pic plan view of the knife, the stag makes it a bit thicker than bone lets say, but the knife in bone is substantial not a wimp at all, I also have a 54 Jack model, this has the same blades as pictured both blades at the same end.

Thanks! I think either of those patterns, with some nice jigged bone, could float my boat nicely:thumbup:.

I like that Jack model! Two large blades, side by side looks good!
The threaded bolsters make a big difference over the plain ones, also

Threaded bolsters add some aesthetics it's true, but check on their slanted bolsters too:thumbup:

I didn't know you were a poet, willgoy!:D

I like the slanted bolsters also! Does someone have a set they can show us??
