The 2016 knives have landed!

I initiated my Drover today.

The Drover pattern seems to me the most classic of pocket knives. I remember having some small equal end pocket knife in my youth. Besides, it's pretty much a SAK. ;)

Now if only they would copy the tools of the victorinox (in the full scout) wouldnt it be good. can't see it happening though..

OK guys, listen up! I just received 50 of the modified punch blade variety of the 2016 BF, and before I ship them all out (today), I'm going to open up a few and check 'em out. I'll try and take photos later when I have time.

Anyway, the rest of the order should be on it's way as well, so I'll get those out next week if everything goes as planned.

So, here we go; first knife picked at random and opened - nicely matched dark color bone with gorgeous worm groove detail, action a little stiff but both blades open and close freely w/ no rub. The punch has been rounded on the back of the blade to allow more clearance.

Second: medium colored bone w/ nicely matched scales, another great worm groove different than the first, blades open freely and no rub.

Third: another beauty with medium color and perfect function, more defined groove which is different than the others.

Fourth: gorgeous bone covers, same as others but maybe a little stiff with newness.

Fifth: a little lighter colored bone, again nicely matched; slightly stiff with newness and again the distinct worm groove.

I think I've seen enough. There is no rub issue with any of these, and I'm pretty sure even the most finicky among us will be satisfied with the results. Those of you who had issues with the first portion of the order, I hope you got your knives into GEC for the warranty work by now.

OK, gotta go to work now. :)

 thanks Barry and co for all your continued efforts! cant wait to get mine :D

Well above and beyond Barry. Thank you for your efforts. After all your doing this gratis, everyone should remember that

Thanks Barry! Your reassurance carries a lot of weight and is conversely a lot of weight off my mind :D ! Decided to stick with the forum knife. Love Charlie's ebony, but...even being a little color blind, I can see how pretty the covers are on the forum offering. You have gone above and beyond here, and been very patient with alot of...bull puckey.
Thanks, Neal

Thanks for the update, Barry. You efforts and time are most appreciated.

Here are the results of the very minor modification:

The back of the punch blade has been rounded off slightly.

This photo is out of focus and the angle is a little wonky, but you can see there is more clearance room now. (bottom knife is of later batch)

I don't see any difference on the swedge grind, really, although some may be a little different. The bottom knife is of the first batch.

I still think this is a sweet pattern, and bound to be a BF classic. You never know when the last BF knife will be made....

Only 35 remain unclaimed...... :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Nice ripe Fig, Blee!

Thanks for the graphic on the punches, Barry! A pic is worth a thousand words, etc!

This forum knife has taught us a lot about knife geometry. Thanks from me as well cant wait to receive it.

Thanks Barry, I look forward to receiving mine. I'm sure I'll be pleased.
Thanks for all you've done to make this happen!

I agree 100% Camillus. I've learned there's a lot more going on inside these Traditional Knives then meets the eye :D Thanks Again Barry and Charlie and Bill and everyone else involved on bringing this very cool knife to us. :D

Thanks to everyone who made this knife happen and who worked on the kinks.

Got my shipping notice.👍

This is just slightly off topic. I really love the style of this knife, but wonder if anyone has made or does make a HJ with any kind of "super steel". I don't intend to re-open a blade steel debate, just what I'm looking for. I'm still kinda waiting for the Indian River Jacks to come out, but the blunt tip on the spear is the only detraction for me. The BF 16 is the ultimate. A knife without a sharp sliver digger is just a little short of perfect. Anyone able to answer my question? Thanks.

There are some 420 stainless versions, but not very sharp. 1095 will last you a lifetime if cared for a little. :)

The 2016 BF has the sharpest point on any punch blade that comes to mind, but Charlie made some other sharp ones like the 77, but it is still good ol'1095.

Mine just came in the mail today! Love it thanks to anyone who had a hand in it's production and distribution because those people sure did a great job!
Happy Halloween!

You might have to explore the custom realm for that. I seem to remember one made by Ken Erickson but I don't know the blade steel.

I wonder if Queen ever made one in D2. I don't recall seeing one but it seems like something Queen may have done.

A Queen in D2 would be great. No idea how to see if they ever made one. Custom is out of my budget for now. Thanks.

I have one Drover from the first run, one from Charlie, and one on the way. When the new one arrives I will post some comparison pics. I also have an IRJ to compare too. My Drover from the first run didn't have issues. It rubbed slightly on the liner but worked itself out on day one.
This is one of my favorite knives. It's always in my bag or pocket. This pattern just feels right in hand. And I think the blade choice looks fantastic on this frame. I ordered one of Charlie's 10s for a guy at work and it was his first GEC. He makes things out of leather for a hobby so he really enjoyed it. My favorite BF knife by far. I like it more than my 2011 85.
