Bad THE BAD Will Moon

Fwiw, I'll stick in honoring my part of the deal since I agreed to purchase.

It's 12hrs now, the status is still stuck in Pre-shipment.

Is this normal?

You read this far and you're still going to send him money?!

There is no helping some people I guess.....

I absolutely hate it when sellers do the whole "pre-ship label" crap. It screws everything up sometimes and does not give you an accurate reading as to whether your package has or hasn't shipped. Sellers should only send you the tracking number straight from the receipt AFTER your item has shipped.

The pre-ship label method is absolute crap. There is no way of knowing whether your package did ship out or not. Sometimes it can stay stuck like that until your item arrives or other times it means that nothing has shipped out yet.

Oh I agree there... Pre-Shipment gets a big thumbs down from me :thumbdn:

I admire and respect your integrity, but wait and see what you get. Good luck. I hope he has changed for your sake.

Get out while you still can, cancel the order and get your money back. This is my opinion and is only given because you asked.

I think denari already sent the payment and now it's just getting the tracking sorted... hopefully he gets the knife or a refund (if he asks for it)

So very True if he has not yet demanded a refund. Staying the course with this order in hopes of receiving a knife however is crazy.

I've admired some of wills knives for years, but this single thread inspired me to never ever send that man any of my money. Thank you members of bf, and the moderating staff for allowing this thread to live.

Has it shipped yet/status changed?

Yes, it finally started moving around 3-4pm US time.

I did ask for a refund after 12 hrs, but he told me there was a delay scanning packages at USPS and that
the knife was already in the mail - he had no way to retrieve it as the postoffice is closed.

This has so far been proving too much grief over a thousand dollar knife.

The communications have picked up again after my post, so I guess we'll see if the knife is what I've expected.

For $1K it should be delivered quickly and efficiently as can be. How does the person know what the post office is actually doing? Doesn't look like much has really changed from the sounds of it. As long as people keep throwing big money at these guys, they will keep on doing what they do. There is one born every minute I guess. From my experience pre-shipment is a printed shipping label, not actually being dropped off at the post office.

That was what I thought too.
It was either the postman was late to pick up the package or he did not drop the package off on time.

I agree. For that amount of money, I'd expect more.
Being a working professional, I'm not a particularly tolerant person but I try to rationalise the situation because the knife itself was why I was in in the first place.

Seeing this thread was a revelation and has made me think more about dealing with knifemakers directly in future.

With all the negativity, I want to share my experience really quickly for the sake of just that, sharing.
I am not trying to speak on behalf of Will nor am I saying his negative actions to what seems like a lot of people were okay.

I currently own a handful of Will's knives. I won't get too much into the fit and finish, but I will say that for how much I paid for these few knives, I think it's worth it.

I've always admired Will's knives, the MK6 stands out from Jim Skelton's old youtube video... you know before the incident. I vowed to get one. I picked up a MK6 a few months later, and then a month later, picked up another one at an unbelievably low price. So I'm sitting on two.

The first MK6 I literally destroyed the scale. I screwed the pocket clip screws too tight and ended up cracking the scale when it pushed out on the other side... I don't know if that makes sense but I was in a pickle. I contacted Will and got a response within a few hours. Sent it back to him.

The second MK6 was one of his first models and wasn't up to his current standards in quality. Lock stick and it wasn't as smooth as could be. I sent it back to him.

In two weeks time, I got the knives back. The first MK6 had a new scale built as well as a new TI pocket clip given to it. Second MK6 I believe had carbidizing done, a new clip, and some other little modifications that made it up to current standards. None of this cost of me a dime except for the return shipping of which I insisted I pay.

Spring forward to some time in July I believe. Purchased a MK7 and marveled at how cool the MK7 was with blue kirinite.

About a month ago, I was carrying my first acquired MK6, the one that had a new scale created, and it fell out of my pocket down a stairwell about 2 stories high. I was mortified. I don't really understand how, but the lock stopped working. I took it apart and that fall apparently cracked the relief cut in the framelock. It just wasn't going to work. Contacted Will via email and heard back from him within a few hours. Sent it off to him about 2 months ago and he created a brand new lockside for me at again, no cost.

Now, during this period I did have a couple of small issues. The knife was finished about two weeks when he got it, but he never shipped it. It wasn't completely his fault as I didn't take the time to follow up with him about it. I just trusted that when he got a chance, he'd ship it out.

Forward to today. I ordered one of his new MK10s to my specifications because I really liked something about the design. I emailed him and within a few hours we were already discussing designs/what I wanted in the knife even though I believe he stopped taking custom orders. It was built within a few days/sleepless nights. I don't currently have it in hand, but it's due to arrive tomorrow along with previously said MK6. He had the knife shipped out when he promised it would. Not complaining, but just stating that it took an email from me asking about the status rather than having him email me automatically. But, if you do follow him on instagram you know he's been swamped with things lately and has actually decided to take a break from knives for about a month.

Overall my experience with Will has been quite positive with the small exception of having that MK6 be shipped out about a month later than it should have. Again though, I feel like it isn't all his fault as I should have followed up on it more often if it were that pressing of an issue.

I do have to state again that I'm not condoning any of the issues you all have had or currently have with Will, but rather just throwing my experience/input into the mix of things.

I got the knife on Saturday.
Wish I could say it was perfect but unfortunately it wasn't.
Scuffs on the blade, backspacer-scale not fitted properly, slanted grind between scales.

I wrote to Will and he somehow suspect something might have happened during shipping.
However, I'm highly doubtful as the shipping box came in fairly good condition, no signs of tampering.

I decided it was best to send it back and cover its return at my own cost (according to his warranty policy).
So here I am, within 48hrs it is on the way back.

From what I've seen Wills overall designs and builds are nice, but he doesn't put much effort into the final fittings, quality, and fit & finish. In many cases it appears that he just CNCs his parts and grinds out his blade, then slaps everything together with not enough care and effort for the price he is selling his knives at. The issues you have on that knife should not be present for the amount of money he is charging. Take your money elsewhere.

Indeed, I'm rather disappointed that the knife turn out this way considering that my first impressions didn't go down well because of the late shipping.

This is almost the exact same crap I got when I received mine. The fit and finish was horrible. He have me a plain knife at the price of the premium. It had no inserts and still was poorly made. I hope people reading this never give this guy a penny.

Now he's posting pics on Instagram with sarcastic comments under his pics of knives like "The off-centered blades" "The scratched finishes" etc. Come on... if someone has a legit complaint just leave it at that. I really think he just can't take any criticism. Commenting like that just makes him look immature

It's too bad. He could probably produce a great product if he just got past being petty.

^^^^ You were warned. Now he is trying to convince you it got messed up in shipping right? ^^^^

He was displeased that I posted the pictures of the defects on BF.

I really don't think it was damaged in shipping.
I actually showed him a picture of the shipping box which looked in fairly good condition with just a couple of dents which are inevitable.

The knife is on the way back for a refund instead.
