Cleaning the NeOn NL

Beautiful, I assume you went to a show to get that? How did you take out the body screw which I assume is the reverse-slot as on other CD knives?

Yep, they had their second appearance at CCKS for the Custom Division lotto. My girlfriend won and she's happy to have her first knife :)

as for the screw:

Ohh but how you get it you fabricated? Or you have a relationship with Shirogorov?

Yea you will need someone with machining skills to get it made, although I think for a bit like this if done correctly it could be done on a manual mill as well.

I am thrilled with the HatiOn Lite. Pics tomorrow in daylight.

I am underwhelmed with the tool pen, regardless of which bits it has. It's overbuilt and overpriced.

HatiOn Lite

New arrival from Recon 1 yesterday. My first impression is what I expected: a scaled down Shiro, like my F3 (despite framelock and linerlock differences). Blade shapes are identical yet sized differently. The engineering and build quality are equal and impressive from its' authoritative snap open to a gentle drop shut. The blade length makes it obvious this is a serious work tool vs a dandy gent's folder. I almost wish I wasn't retired so I could break down a couple baby lambs and pigs with it this weekend.

Cleaning? You mean you let it get dirty? Shame ;)
That makes my dream Shiro knife, a Neon Zero with inlays, love the milling patterns on yours.

Haha, those damn dust bunnies get in everything! Although I admit I haven't been carrying many CDs ever since I got the F7.

Speaking of which, I always love to see the F7 as the evolution of the 95 design:

Picked up an F3R this week, officially a multiple Shiro household now. Also after trying tuf-glide and not loving the results on the F95 I switched to 85wt Nano-oil. Highly recommended, I think the thicker weight provides a little more smoothness on bearings vs a lighter weight lubricant. Also fashioned a very sophisticated pivot tool : ) Shown in the last photo. Nice alternative to the pen and will absolutely never mar the knife!

Happy weekend.

Not to disparage anyone that owns one, but I share your view of the pen tool. It's just not something that appeals to me when I could buy a pretty fine knife for the same money. I was quite happy using coins to open my Shiros--there's still an appropriate selection of good-fitting ones in my knife tool bag--but did subsequently purchase a Shiro Hedgehog from Vladimir_K just because I thought it was kinda cool.

D dburpasaurus , welcome to BF and the Bears' Den. Inasmuch as you have your pics on Imgur already, you only need to copy the BB code for any one and paste it into your post for it to appear here instead of having to post a link to your album. I've often meant to make a hardwood driver or two for my Shiros and you may well have inspired me to fool around with just that over in the woodshop tomorrow.

I've never cared for TufGlide as a lube and only use it for treating coated blades. I don't like grease in knife pivots either and have been very happy with W10 NanoOil in both ball- and washer-bearing knives, sometimes using W85 on the pivot bushings only. Maybe I'll try that on a BB knife next time I clean and re-lube one.

eventually im gonna get a perfect picture of this one. Between the milled pattern in the CF, the hints of orange in the cf, the reflectiveness of the cf, the blade finish and the reflective but not fully polished edge i put on its tough to get one i like.

All in good time though.

I'm still very conflicted...the action on the Shiro definitely has something that the MILK is lacking (not smoothness per se, I can't quite put my finger on it), but the pocket clip on the MILK is sooooo pocket friendly. The Shiro is ground a touch thinner behind the edge, but I could fix that on the MILK. I'm really torn on which is gonna be the favorite...

Just pretend they are twins...then you have to love them both. ;)
