The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

have a limited run 111 in m398 coming tomorrow, not quite in time for 1/11 but close enough... it'll join my Russian Overkill as a second M398 in the stable

It's a great knife.Hard to beat a Shiro for smoothness. Not as good as my 95's though. I'm spoiled having 7 others to compare it with. I am going to get a Quantum when one I like becomes available in the exchange. I love my 111!

Not as good as my 95's though.

I agree, for me I think it’s just the sharper frame angles the Ursus has over the more contoured F95. I like the slightly rounded point of the F95 flipper tab better. My Ursus‘ lockbar has much more pressure too.

I will say, for the slimness of the knife overall, it feels stout as hell in the hand.

Two M398 blades for today... I've been carrying my RO every day for months now, it's such a great one

Does Shirogorov send out the knives new with any oil or grease on the detent ball or bearings/rollers? If so, what?

My apologies if this has been discussed already. I did some research and the most I've seen was some people put 10 weight Nano-Oil on the bearings/rollers and 85 weight Nano-Oil on the detent ball.

Shiros come with grease in the pivot bearings--probably Millitec or something like it. I've never been a fan of grease in my knives, usually cleaning it out straight away, lubing with W10 NanoOil. I put a little dab of FinishLine on the detent ball which distributes itself along the track with use.

One of my favorite knives of all time, such a great user.
As much as I appreciate the higher level models, none of them "speak" to me as much as the NL. Light, stout, tremendous slicer (FFG devoid of flats = most acute geometry), nearly sterile blade, grippy inlays yet svelte in/out of the pocket (with no shred), and I even prefer the internal lock-cutout (aesthetically at least). The inlays provide the means of weight-reduction cutouts (instead of gutting the inside of the scales), but otherwise it is such a "straightforward" design, devoid of any unnecessary embellishment, yet produced at the HIGHEST level of quality and frankly insane tolerances. This is MY Shiro - I LOVE this model.
