The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

As for 111 — it seems micarta (F3 Python had micarta scales, right?) is too flexible for a long handle without metal frame.

At least I’ve never encountered a 111 with micarta scales.

I’m afraid we are stuck with CF and G10. But may be we’ll see G10 Pyhon one day? 😆

Pretty sure recessed titanium liners would be perfect and perfectly fine !!!!
They always managed to get the best looking python micarta too!!
ChazzyP ChazzyP how about some luv!!!

Another side-by-side comparison:

Slightly more choil than mine I think...
Actually I had an opportunity to select one of two -- unlike CRK the Shiro blades are hand ground. Hence choil size, grind lead-off and plunge position slightly vary:

I think I’m gonna carry the F95 Zero for a little bit again.
That's a very nice flipper, featuring subtle details and fairly laconic design.

Sold mine a week ago and already miss it. A bit off-center tip and sub-optimal detent were the reasons to reconcile myself to the sale. Still hope to get a flawless one.

Thanks I like this one a lot too but wouldn’t be happy with any issues. Mine is very nice overall and definitely got better after break-in although it’s been feeling gritty lately. I carried this quite a bit last year riding the motorcycle and hunting. Both of those activities get your pockets dirty inside with all sorts of crap.

One thing I don’t like about it is the detent ramp and how light feeling this knife unlocks, the lockbar tension is fine, the process just feels seamless as I’m used to a square lock face that allows that 90* corner to smack into the detent ball rather than allowing it to clean slide through. I’ve actually been wanting to tighten the pivot a little to slow down the blade drop.

The Blade Forum Exchange is the best knife shop I’ve ever been to and I’m happy when I instantly like a knife a whole lot more than I was expecting. I hadn’t seen these Alutex scales before, it seemed many of the Hati’s that people favored were carbon fiber and I’m surprised how many color variations there are after researching this model. The orange color on this one is fantastic and I can definitely appreciate the little weight savings, it’s not much but does give the knife a different feel vs the other F95’s.

Concerning outdoor use, I’ve got few Shiros that I use during outdoor activities and they are fine. For me they’re the best folders I can get, especially F3/F3R. Never had any issues. Ofc I always have fixie on my belt and use it for hard tasks. I use folders for cutting and cutting only.

Some time ago I wanted to check how my F95NL would perform as an edc (also at work) and carried it every single day for a year. At that time I used a knife at work quite often, it got dirty and I washed it with soap and water 2-3 times a week. After a year I noticed that it’s not as smooth as it was and got it disassembled. It turned out that two bearing balls got rusty. I had to order some spare ones. That’s the only problem that occured.

Congratulations, you've got a very fine piece of Hati R, which I like more than Gen 3.

An outstanding combination of a fancy colorful scale and stonewashed titanium without excessive details.

AFAIK 10 color variations were announced 5 years ago:

I have also seen some custom Alutex scales offered by Dept13.

To be fair, Gen 3 presentation scale is pretty cool too 🙃

B Bacchus I love a few of those colors, it’s got a cool look to it no matter how you hold the knife and I agree, I like the plain Ti lock side vs the newer style with the inlay 🍻

Have the usual boxes changed some? My Quantum Ursus NL came in a dark brown, not the usual black, box, though the color might be related to the Ursus line. The major difference, though, was in the proportions--deeper--and that the packaging included a slide-out tray like my F95R, unlike my other, older knives. The QUNL also came with a white, horizontal COA, not unlike that which came with my Russian-sourced F95R. It's always been my impression that the black vertical COAs one gets with knives from R1are filled out here and, if the blanks are unchanged, they wouldn't fit in the interior trays and could end up rubber banded to the box. A bit cheesy for such expensive pieces? Yeah, probably, but really incidental to the quality of the knives IMO.
Yeah my QUNL box has a pull-out tray, and I was surprised that the serial # wasn’t hand written (horizontal white paper). No big deal tho, the box is convenient at least, because it’s small. I always keep them, especially if it’s an expensive knife

Two F3’s in a row…I feel like the universe is pulling me back for one of these. I had a black F3NS for a very fleeting moment but didn’t like the thickness of it, my first and only Shiro at that time was a Neon NL so the size increase was pretty dramatic. Now that I’ve carried and loved the F95 which kinda sits in the middle of frame thickness between those two and enjoying my Soft Overkill a lot, I think I’ll appreciate the F3 much more a second time around.

That python micarta really makes me want to go play in the woods ChazzyP ChazzyP , fantastic pattern and color to yours.

J jfk1110 , despite having this thread on Watch, I don't always get the notifications, so I'm getting caught up now and just saw your post on the previous page looking for a little Python love. It's a crappy, dark day here, so no fresh pics so far, but here's one from last March that I don't recall having posted at these pages.

Better late than never...😉

I’m not a shiro guy, they’re just out of my price range but I have handled a few and they’re very impressive.

I was at the bladeshow in Atlanta this past year and they had a custom for auction that last I saw was up to 26k. Incredible, are any of y’all familiar with that particular knife and if so do ya know what justified that value. It didn’t look very different than a lot of the knives I’ve seen posted here. I was also curious if something like that would hold its value and ever be able to be recouped by the buyer.

mitchnola mitchnola , it is definitely not the only Shiro custom with similar price tag.

There is a special section on the maker's website for the official auctions.

I've never participated myself, but bid history is available for a few hours after the auction is complete. And I have seen bids in the range of 17-23 kUSD this May.

It seems even more incredible for the Russian market. My only guess is that some custom configurations are in greater demand by wealthy overseas collectors, provoking bid wars.
