Nope nope nope.

They say that M390 has better corrosion resistance than S90V, and maybe similar edge retention as S90V, but with less toughness in M390; but I've never been disappointed in S90V edge retention and corrosion resistance, nor with M390 toughness. So, I can see your side of things. I may prefer Elmax and Vanax over M390, but I love S90V.

I’ve only had s90v twice and neither was from Shiro so maybe I haven’t had good examples. I just didn’t like how it sharpened or stropped. Shiros m390 is the best I’ve ever used and holds its bite for an impressive amount of time. Corrosion isn’t an issue where I live and toughness on my folders has never been an issue.

There is a DBK video of them beating the brakes of a TRC knife in m390 that gives me a ton of confidence in its toughness

I'd say the "common" grey version of Stellar with M390 blade is as good as 1st Production run in terms of EDC.

AFAIK recent Shiro heat treatment protocols are rather different from standard Crucible guidelines, so you might not be disappointed with Shiro S90V performance or sharpening.

Hi everyone, some of you may not have seen this yet but there’s a 2023 CCKS “Sinkevich Touch” Stellar in M390, matching Sinkevich bit tool driver, and cool leather sheath up for lotto at the main US retailer. Here’s some pics of it courtesy of Shirogorov and R1, this version looks really fantastic and I love the different milling patterns from the production version. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Cheers.
 
I’ve been a lurker here for a while and have picked up a few F3’s along the way. Thanks for the intel and education gents.

I’ve been on the lookout for a blue F3 for awhile but haven’t seen any pop up, so I picked up a white/blue G10 F3 with the intention of dying the scales blue.

I’ve never dyed any scales or taken apart a Shiro so, It took me a while to get up the nerve to make this happen.

I used Rit Royal Blue and let the scales soak for five minutes in boiling water/dye, checking them frequently. I had to soak the backspacer for ten minutes to get it close to the scale color.

I haven’t seen a regular production version, only the initial launch in the s90v version. What’s the difference? I want a stellar bad but not $1700 bad. Is the tool only good for the stellar hardware? Or will it have the traditional bits for the main lineup ?

Ditto… really wanting an m390 production model but this one’s a bit too much for me right now.
 
Hi again, I agree this one is pricey but it does include the tool which I guess they'd sell for $350–400 at least, plus the leather sheath. As for the Stellar release schedule, I'm surprised they haven't dropped a batch of standard production M390 ones yet because in a recent IG post they said they planned to do so in the near future, and I'm guessing they brought quite a few knives over with them to the US when they recently attended the CCKS and FNBA (they brought some fantastic drool-worthy customs per Sergey's IG page, plus apparently these bronze Stellars). This Stellar has the Sinkevich hardware, bronze ano job, and I'm guessing he influenced the milling pattern, so if the tool is $400-ish, this makes this Stellar cost $1300 or so, which is in line with the first production one being $1250 (someone please correct me if this price is off) with this one having an extra "SInkevich" name price tag. The tool seems to only come with the large and small Sinkevich-style triangular bits, I'm guessing their other standard bits fit as well if you have them or have access to them. If not, REK sells a set of their standard slot-style bits in 3 sizes that fit regular Wiha-style drivers that I have and use and highly recommend as a more economical alternative.

I won a spot in the lotto, wrote back with my preferred payment/shipping choices as instructed, and haven’t heard anything back for a couple of hours now. Not sure what that means but I have a sinking feeling. :(

Update: They reached out and let me know my email didn’t make it to them, even though it shows as being sent on my end and is sitting in my sent mail folder. Definitely a Monday…
