The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

I tried searching the internet for a bit but couldn’t find any discussions regarding Shiro knives and scale markings but either way, I think it’s neat to have one like this.

There's a brief discussion of L40 markings on F95 scales here. And there's also a reference to Nick Shabazz video with L31 markings.

According to the reply these A00-style labels were made to simply match the scales intended to be used for the same knife.

So, DNAIrradiator DNAIrradiator might be right 🙃

I love the pairing of the knives with matching hanks!

Thank you! It was fun to match them up with some of the hanks in my collection, even better they were all dragon themed (no bear-themed ones unfortunately). I like the colors on the new Aerum quite a bit more in person than I expected I would, so it will be tough to pare down the quartet now that my OCD's satisfied that the series collection is complete (as far as I can tell). The Ignis is my least favorite if I had to rank, followed by the Aerum, Aquatic and Terrus in that order. It's tough to pick a favorite between the Aquatic and Terrus, they are both so beautiful and have amazing blade steels. Cheers everyone, have a great remainder to your weekend.

I didn’t think of it like that so it could be a great explanation. I tried searching the internet for a bit but couldn’t find any discussions regarding Shiro knives and scale markings but either way, I think it’s neat to have one like this.

By the way, you and DocJekl DocJekl both have great looking complete sets of the Elemental knives!
Thanks for the compliment on the collection! Not sure how long they'll remain a complete family with the holidays coming up! ;)

Finally bit the bullet and snagged a neon zero. Fantastic knife.

Side note, I dropped my Hati into beach sand this weekend. Fully expected the action to be gritty but it was completely unscathed and flipped open like it never happened. Those bearings seem to be well protected

I’ve had the gritty feeling since my pockets while riding motorcycle and during hunting season load up with all sorts of dirt and little remnants of leaves and twigs that fall into them or make their way in there from sticking my hands in and have found a quick rinse with hot water (I have used soap too) while rotating the blade works really well for a fast cleanup. I’ll simply blow the pivot area out with some air and then drop the knife back into my pocket, they run great dry if you decide it’s time to rinse it out but don’t want to take it fully apart.

Something I noticed when I had an F95 apart after treating it like that for almost 2 years, first I was happy to see the insides weren’t as dirty as I expected and second, the bearing cages are machined so tight to the ball bearings that they appear to literally scrape the crud off the balls and contain the crud to the inside spaces between the balls or to the inside cavity surrounding the pivot barrel. The balls were clean and shiny and the blade tang was as well which was surprising to me.

Has anyone used Recon1's Shirogorov warranty service before? I have an F3 Ignis that has some weird kinks that I'd like to get covered under warranty. I contacted Recon1 using the warranty form, but they haven't responded yet, and I'm wondering if it's better to just call them. Also, how long does it take for the knife to get back? (I'm in no rush, so I don't mind waiting months—just want an honest assessment.)

It takes a while for them to get back to you.
How long it's gone depends on when the next time someone is coming over here to a show so they can pick them up. Due to sanctions they can't ship direct right now.
Replacing the pivot screw on my Sigma was a 3 month deal.

Looks like more Stellars are dropping soon:
This is fantastic news! No other Shiro model has spoken to me more than the Stellar. I have a first production and it’s fantastic. Compared to the other models I have, it seems even better engineered and more advanced, if that’s even possible with this maker. The features like the apron that blankets the titanium liner lock so nothing gets into that crevice
between the frame, the “Goldilocks” mid-size (it’s basically identical in size to a large CRK Sebenza), and amazing action that just seems glassier and smoother than other models - I couldn’t recommend you all trying one out more strongly! I can’t even imagine what Shiro could do to top the Stellar (but I’m super excited to see them try!!).
