Lighter handle finish? Looks pretty similar to the original. The milling lines are different though.
Looks like the Stripe is still on their radar! I’m hopeful it’s only a matter of time before they percolate this custom down to a production version. Such a crazy pivot on this one!Too many RJM collabs imo. They're just stale, for me. Even though this version is more exciting to me in terms of specs/build choice than any since the original Russian Overkill for me - I just dont care anymore. I'm more excited by any non-RJM collab news coming out of Shiro over yet another version of these.
Especially considering we know about several other collabs which are sitting with no updates - the Russian Lochsa, the Strip collab with Sinkevich, etc. Imagine if they re-issued one of the other desirable collabs that haven't been explored for a few years like the RFT or Hokkaido or did a different model with those same makers.
Crazy, I had almost that identical Custom Division NeOn, but sold it. I seriously considered keeping it as my own and only daily knife but decided against it for reasonsWas able to get my hands on one of the CCKS Stellar sets courtesy of a member here on the exchange…

Goldilocks indeed
These knives are so nice…I want more![]()
Nice!I love my Stellar, but it wasn't love at first unboxing. The overall design, dimensions, materials, etc, nearly meet all of my expectations to the point where the Stellar easily slides into my top five knives. However, I found the lock-up a tad bit loose and the blade too free dropping. I don't care for free-droppers. Perhaps nice for show, but impractical for real world use, at least in my world and I have several pairs of work gloves with nicked thumb and finger tips to show for it.
Since this is the production version that doesn't come with a $1K screwdriver, I bought the ghetto version
. Disassembled the knife, tuned the lock bar, reassembled and dialed in pivot. Now the knife locks up positively and the closing action is my kind of perfect. Next it only needs more jimping on the spine and a real nick/cutout for middle finger flicking (like the Quantum for example) but those mods are beyond my skill level. At +$1K I guess you still can't have it all
.

Unfortunately on production/serial pieces it definitely seems like there is more variance these days than there once was in terms of action coming straight from the factory. Some are free dropping, some almost feel like they are loaded with grease that is slowing them down. It's a bit of a bizarre experience honestly for how good the quality of the knives are that the final assembly/steps can be so varied.Nice!
That's surprising hearing those two pieces of feedback.. my action is closer to sluggish (for a shiro) then free-falling (somewhat by design, I have the pivot a hair snug) and the lock up is as good as my hinderer or CRK... full disclosure I did loktite (now that it's a captive pivot) after cleaning it a hair snugger then it came... but like 1/16th of a rotation is all.
Glad you have it tuned up to where you are happy!
My experience is that there's never any drop-off in quality for the Shiro "economy" or "budget" lines. (Aside--does it beg the question to ask if a $650 piece is really a budget knife?). I've got a Quantum Ursus just like yours, a "lesser" version of the Tabargan 100NS (I had the "better" version too, before stupidly selling it), a NeOn UL in S30V, and had the original version of the F95NL "World Tour" knife to handle and use for 3 weeks. All of those are "budget" Shiro's and none were of lesser quality, they just were built with more modest materials and/or pivots, milling, etc. than my "higher end" production models or my one collaboration knife.Just picked up my first Ursus.
I am pleasantly surprised with it.
Fit & Finish are very good.
Didn’t expect this quality from the economy line.
