The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

First knife purchase of the year happened because I couldn’t stop looking at the Halloween Hati pictures…speaking of, where are all these knives? Most pics I’ve been able to find are from the same 2-3 people, I’m surprised they're still available even after being offered first at a show. With a limited number of them made (50), I figured they’d do well with the glow in the dark scale feature. Maybe because they popped up after Halloween?

I grow pumpkins every year in the backyard so I’m happy I was able to grab one, plus I have an older Hati with the orange Alutex scale that it will pair nice with.

I have the same question, and it's because I can't stop comparing the Holloween Hati to the Black Hati. Why do y'all think they aren't selling? Undesirable for some reason that a noob like me doesn't know?

When camping, I always worry about dropping my folder and not being able to find it. The orange lanyard and slight possibility of a glowing handle might make me feel better about spotting it in leaf litter. But, I don't know anything about Luminofor Technocarbo. How long would it glow after sitting in a pocket? I assume it would need to be deliberately charged and would only glow for a short time (like glow-in-the-dark stuff from my childhood).

Is there a problem or issue with the Gen 3 Hati in general?

Thoughts would be appreciated before I pull the trigger.

Thanks for a great write up about a great knife. I'm curious about the dust protectors you mentioned over the bearings. I found a picture of the Quantum broken down on Shiro's site but don't see anything of this nature.

Perhaps you are referring to the translation of Shiro's description of the blade's tang?
A design feature of the base of the blade allows, if necessary, to easily eliminate contamination of the node without disassembling the knife or any special means.
Looking at the picture of that part of the knife while closed it seems that the placement of the bearing/pivot assembly so close to the rounded segment of the tang allows for easy access in cleaning and lubricating.

I had to bring up this necropost about the Quantum while working through the entire thread. It's amazing how much the end of the Quantum pivot looks like the end of the Stellar. It was really cool do discover (after a few days of fidgeting) that:

1. I could lube the pivot with a needle oiler easily.
2. I could grease the pivot hole without disassembly.
3. I can clean out the vast majority of gunk with a q-tip without disassemby.

Very refreshing after more than a decade of CRK experience.

Stellar:

Sure wish I could find a NIB production Quantum with black COA. :(

jacobconroy75 jacobconroy75 , I just went to R1 and added a bunch of the Halloween Hati’s into my cart and it limited it to 3 being left so they didn’t really sell that well considering the limited amount available for 2 months now, plus all the people at the show to see them first. Honestly it doesnā€˜t bother me, it’s a color scheme that appeals to me and I didn’t care for the Red/White/Blue versions. The bronze (which I really liked) was a limited knife show exclusive with a few extra items and a much higher $, damn!

There’s nothing wrong with the Gen3 Hati at all, they get really high praise, have the new captive pivot design and they sold well with multiple batches of each color being released. Guess orange was just another color toward the end after many already got their Hati-3 of choice and the glow feature/bead just wasn’t enough bait for a lot of people! (Plus they look red in the R1 photos).

Also, get a little drinking straw brush, they work awesome for cleaning the areas of the knives without disassembling, especially all the recesses in the Ti scales that collect pocket dust.

Thanks. Be sure to post up what you think of it when yours arrives. I'm trying really, really hard not to spend any more money...but I want one!

Edited to add: It might be due to the fact that ALL knife sales seem to be slowing down. At least the ones I habitually watch have been.

I agree, nothing wrong with it, damn good EDC.

But :) IMHO there's some place for improvement. I would really prefer to see Hati Gen 3:
(a) without inlay and
(b) without "chaotic satin" which is driving me mad.

I have tried Red, Blue, White and Black in 2023 (Halloween was not available in Russia). And the reason I kept the Red one was the fact that it had already been "tweaked" -- stonewashed + anodized. Otherwise the White one might be the 1st choice for its winter/arctic vibe šŸ™ƒ

Same goes for Quantium -- IMHO it looks better without inlay. There was a small batch of them with Alutex scale and S90V blade -- sold instantly on the latest knife show in Moscow.

Not a fond of Quant(i)um model, but I would bought this one without hesitation directly from the Shiro shop (the pictures were snatched from a local forum):

This design is so much more attractive than the other Quantum variants they've put out there. Shame they were so limited. Same with the show exclusive Quantum NLs with the extract cut in the blade.. Make the serial production models look extremely plain.

I was wondering if there was a name for the look they gave the lock side of the Gen3, ā€œchaotic satinā€ sounds better than ā€œdesk scratchesā€ like you commonly find on the clasps of worn watches lol. I’m actually happy there’s the inlay on that side so there was less area to apply that finish to!

I'm not kidding -- "chaotic satin" is the official term, first used by Shiro shop for Quantum Gen 2:

Handle options: stonewash + chaotic satin

I really hope they stop damaging stonewashed flat surface soon šŸ™ƒ

This is the description for the Halloween Hati lockside Ti finish on R1 (credit for the pic as well):
  • Stonewashed Titanium frame lock handle scales with Orange TechnoCarbo w/ Luminofor presentation scale

looking at the pics, it’s certainly appears to be a little more scratched than their typical stonewash, making it sort of chaotic satin to a lesser degree.
