The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

i dont mind the proprietary normal shiro screws, because they have been around for ages and there are multiple products available for purchase. and worst case, you can manage with the right screwdriver and some creativity. but i feel like making even more proprietary bits for certain collaborations is a bit excessive. they do look amazing, but its just too easy to buy one used and it not include the tools, and good luck finding them. furthermore if you even do find them, god save your wallet.

personally i dont mind the mrbs, its a nice opportunity for some zen focus. just dont interrupt me or i will rage
The crazy thing is, the sinkevich tool that is hard to find, won't work on the Sinkevich Bio!! But I still love it

classic lol i mean i criticize the proprietary hardware, but full transparency it would not deter me in the slightest from buying one. shiros are just unmatched and their collabs are some of the coolest pieces ever devised, i would just have to come up with a creative way to make some tools that work without damaging anything. or obliterate my wallet and buy the real tools if i could find them.

Seeing that Skiff and CKF can produce caged mrbs in many different configurations there’s no reason Shirogorov can’t do the same. The loose bearing days need to come to an end.

I love my Shiro tool as much as my Shiro knives. Beautifully machined precision example of art meets function. The thing I really love about it is that I can also use my standard Wiha bits for the rest of my knives and not just the proprietary Shiro bits. Very fine tool. . . I just wish they would’ve put the bear head logo more prominently on it.

im not smart enough to know the cost benefit analysis between loose or caged. i have to imagine there is at least some benefit to loose over caged, otherwise they wouldn't still be using them. maybe because they can fit more in the race? no idea. if it's apples to apples and all things equal, its just that caged dont fly around everywhere when you disassemble the knife, then yes I would agree they should retire the loose bearings. for me personally, it doesnt bother me all that much, not enough to dissuade me from owning them at least.

Got it open! Used a triangle bit, worked perfectly. Didn't even scratch the screws. I did use electrical tape.
Might go with ceramic bearings. Think the bearings in this one arent very good, feels scratchy despite cleaning.

Ill take it! Haha

With the knife closed, hold it and squeeze the blade into the frame as if you’re trying to force it to close further, this will put pressure on the pivot barrel allowing you to loosen the screw end. 🍻

I had to learn this tip with an F95 that has a very free spinning pivot.
I'll give it a shot tomorrow!!

For those have both, stellar carbon and hati gen 3.
Which do you think has better action?

I have never held the stellar, but owned a hati gen 3. Bring different, frame lock and line lock, which would feel more snappy?
