The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

For those have both, stellar carbon and hati gen 3.
Which do you think has better action?

I have never held the stellar, but owned a hati gen 3. Bring different, frame lock and line lock, which would feel more snappy?
I find they tune the Stellar detent to be harder. That combined with a much lighter blade makes it more snappy. The flipper on the Stellar is a bad design, the jimping on some tend to be quite sharp. And the gaping of it is not comfortable imo. The pocket clip is also a hot spot on the sharp point at the end. Overall the Stellar is not very Stellar imo. The f95 is much more enjoyable to carry and use and fidget with.

I’ll take the Hati/F95 framelock action everyday over the Stellar/111 liner lock design. The Hati Gen3’s are absolutely some of the best Shiro’s I’ve owned, they’re fantastic lightweight, full size knives.

while the action on the 111(no experience with the stellar) is awesome, i agree with you that i much prefer the action of the hati. my hati is really great but im considering passing it on to get either another f95 or another f3. id love a turtle

id love a turtle

I have an older generation Turtle in bronze that has the 4mm blade/standard turtle milled pockets/open back with standoff and I recently picked up one of the new Turtles that has the thinner blade stock/milling within the milled out pockets/backspacer and man, the new gen is super light in comparison! Feels light and fast firing in the hand just like the Hati Gen.3.

Is that why i see so many for sale?

welp i just traded it for a hawk talon instead lol + a little cash, which i was happy to do. its a special build with westinghouse black glass. never had a talon before, curious to see what its all about. should be easy to sell if i dont enjoy it enough

Personally speaking, I like the hati better. BUT im also not a huge stellar guy. I prefer the Astrum over most, so keep that in mind! I also loved the Fit strip but didnt really love the skinny strip. So basically, I am ZERO help.

hahah hey we all different preference. i like my f95nl more than the hati, i actually prefer a little more weight, thus why im keeping the f95nl over the hati. i would love the f95t i found for sale but he's not open to trades, and i'm not trying to spend another $1k on yet another shiro. i would do a trade + some cash but seller isn't open to it. just trying to branch out a bit, im excited to see what this talon is all about. i would like to try an arius too, a mojave. im sure everyone can relate, too many knives, not enough money LOL

The Talon is so good I bought a second one immediately after buying my first - and already plotting to acquire a third btw. People who have never handled one have no idea how good it is. . .

cant wait to try it out. super thankful for the opportunity, especially the special black glass version i was able to find.

have you disassembled it? curious how difficult the disassembly is, i'm not familiar with the "hawk lock" mechanism. i know skiff makes bearings for it, but i would have though hawk would have made custom bearings in-house, so maybe skiff's aren't strictly necessary. i dont know that skiffs are ever necessary but i usually like to do them on my nicer pieces

I’ve never disassembled mine - no need to - but I’ve watched a ton of videos on it and on how the lock works. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it if needed. Having said that, I also wouldn’t put skiffs in it. There’s zero need for that either. He designed that thing to work like the well oiled machine it is. I bet you’ll see what I’m talking about for yourself when you get it.

Very different from Shiro, like miles apart. Hopefully you like it. I've yet to see or handle a Hawk that I've liked however.

I had a talon and got rid of it. Super fun knife, well designed and built. Very sharp and fidgety. Pretty perfect for edc actually. The sharp jimping on the lock button turned me off. I’m sure I will grab another at some point.

Did a risky experiment today.
I recieved my diamond tip needles, and did about 10 light passes on the detent hole on my strip skinny, not on the track, just the hole. Assembled, and flicked it a bunch of times. Dissambled, did 10 more, assemble, and flicked again, about 20 times. It made opening easier, my finger doesnt feel like its losing skin anymore. The flipper tab on this knife is ludicrous sharp, because its so small. But now with the detent hold a little less flat, it opens with less pressure, I think this is where I want it, and let time slowly break it in.
Very happy with this knife now!
It has the most crisp action ive ever felt. It really snaps.
Stellar arrives monday, excited for that.

I'm not familiar past name recognition. So you posted that in response to a Marlowe/Shirogorov collaboration? I do like the collab better for sure.
I'm on my 4th try with the RKMP. And I finally fell in love with it. It took me a while to get the flipper tab worked in, and the action dialed in. But finally I love this thing
