The BladeForums 2022 Traditional Knife Thread

My 2022 BF Bunny Knife was one of the earlier ones to ship, but ended up with an expected delivery date that was the same day we left to visit family for the holiday. So it got to hang out with our other held mail at the local post office for a week or so, then was finally delivered on the 31st after we returned. So I did at least get my 2022 knife in 2022. Then I promptly forgot to take any pictures or post about until today.

I know that number from somewhere…

Hahah I had posted earlier that if someone got that number that they should hit me up. They had to make up that room number in the movie The Shining, since I think room numbers 217 existed at the hotel and they didn't want people to be afraid to book number 217 at the hotel if they used one in the movie.

I'm okay without that number now.

It's dilemma time...mine is out for delivery, and should show up in my mailbox within the hour. But my wife is calling, expecting me to join her for our traditional Saturday afternoon nap. What is one to do?
$15 wireless doorbell button inside the mailbox………$20 yearly bribe gift for the mail person……….priceless 😎

Congrats, Mike!:cool::thumbsup: You must be one beaming bunny, one happy hare, one lucky leporine living thing to have received 496, which mathematically is a "perfect number", since 496 is equal to the sum of its "proper factors" (all factors except 496 itself).
496 = 1+2+248+4+124+8+62+16+31

That's pretty cool GT. I had to go refresh my memory regarding perfect numbers. Which led to briefly reading about Euclid. Which led to reading about non-Euclidan geometry. Which led to...
Quite a...um...rabbit hole I went down o_O

Now I'm looking at pictures of trains w00t.gif

Cut a slice of tomato and sliced an apple, so it works
(No pic. I ate the apple and tomato 😇 )

You guys may laugh but despite my age I don't partake in any social media other than this forum, an aussie knife forum and one other forum (muzzleloading).

My dad was a butcher/slaughterman in his earlier years and I grew up hunting and living on a farm hence my love of knives. As an Aussie kid in the bush I grew up trapping and skinning rabbits with dads rabbit knife, so it's great to see the forum pay a bit of homage to our history like that.

I do have to claim ignorance as an up till recent non collector that I'd not heard of brands like GEC nor had any idea that the forum did a knife when I first arrived. I dont qualify this year which is fair enough but I do think it's pretty disgusting that people would abuse the community like some have however. For those that qualify it's a shame they miss out for guys wanting to stock pile them or hock them off.

Just a question on it though, would it make it less prone to the wrong people getting it or stock piling them if pre orders and payment were required beforehand? Seems like then they'd be less likely to initially fall into the wrong hands and people wouldn't have multiple while others missed out?

The issue of folks flipping what was originally meant to be a "club" knife has been ongoing for over a decade. There's no good solution.

Back when the knife design was actually done by vote it could get really ugly. And now that we're basically down to a very limited number of makers, and collecting has gotten ridiculous, a lot of the fun is gone. I love the tradition, but I don't miss the drama. I am having trouble believing that we have over 500 active members in this forum for anything other than the knife. I have little use for those who only use this as a source of income. To me that tarnishes the whole...

No system is perfect. This year actually went very smoothly IMO. After all the sour grapes last year I really wondered if we’d even be able to have a 2022 knife. Shipping knives and cross-referencing forum usernames to make sure everyone who ordered one actually qualified is a huge amount of work so it’s not surprising a few seem to have slipped through. Short of releasing a list of all usernames who have preordered a knife and letting volunteers on the porch actually make sure they meet the rules, or maybe writing a script that could check post counts, member status, and post locations? I think the way it was handled this year was pretty good.
