The BladeForums 2022 Traditional Knife Thread

Where does it say they don't make SFOs?
i just wanted a definition of the two 'Categories' (''Club knives and SFOs are different categories.'')
(btw, GEC is still producing SFOs, Private Label and Club Knives, they never stopped that.)

basically nothing has changed, only the frequency and mostly the numbers of pieces per run.
just necessary adjustments to various influences such as corona, supply chain problems, etc.

Bill does what Bill has to do.

The news that GEC won’t be doing SFOs until further notice came out a couple of years ago, to much wailing and gnashing of teeth. Luckily it hasn’t been all bad, we still have gotten now 2 forum knives (including this one) and some other interesting knife releases, and other club knives, in addition to the great regular patterns of course. So it seems there is a bit of grandfathering/exceptions/if Bill likes it he’ll do it, going on. When you have customer demand such that any GEC disappears from a dealers site within seconds of posting, it does make sense from a factory standpoint to slim the range a bit. It felt like it was getting to the point where every other dealer was custom ordering with their own shield or blade etch or handle material. Great for us to drool over, but makes it harder to produce volume at the factory, and it also drove a lot of collectors to seek every variation, meaning the supply of knives didn’t go as far.

We should be very grateful to Bill, Charlie, and Spark for making this one happen!

I wonder just how many of a popular pattern GEC would have to make in order for it to take more than a few days to sell out. Say something like the recent #59 whittler or a #68 stockman?

If it’s anything like the gun market (and I rather suspect it is, lots of overlap and a lot of the same market factors at play) I’d say the first few “jumbo” releases would still sell fast due to hoarding. “I can’t believe they’re still in stock, I got one, I better get a second. These will sell out so fast…” As customers got used to the fact that there were plenty to go around, it might slow down. As for the magic number I haven’t a clue personally. 2000? Roughly double the large releases of 2021.

The new Colt Pythons are a great example of this.

I’m so excited for this knife! Every day leading up to it, I’m talking myself into carrying it instead of being the filthy collector/hoarder that I am.

GEC made about 2600 of the Remington 2021 knife and they seem flat in price.

The run of 97’s a few years ago was around 5000, and those did not increase in price until recently (but quite a few variations unlike the Remington knife).

I heard GEC was going to use same serial number on each Bunny knife to make record keeping easier………

How big was last year's Remington run? 5k? That seemed to be the number @a buck eighty a piece.
I thought of the Remington knife, but there were a couple factors that made it unique. A) it’s a two blade trapper, so a pattern that might have more niche appeal than other styles (single blade, large and small blade). B) It says Remington, not GEC, so a lot of more casual enthusiasts might have either missed the memo or just decided to pass for that reason. C) they priced at a much higher MSRP. So, 2600 worked to keep the supply chain “normal” with those factors. Would it be enough for a 73 single blade, 47, etc?
(Apologies to all for the thread drift I’m sure we’ll be back to bunny jokes shortly, lol.)

I’d like to know the rationale behind the font etch. Is it the same font as BF? BUNNY KNIFE

There has got to be a reason they went with something so basic, right? How cool would it be if it was the BF script font.

If it were up to me, I’d have done something like the old Ahrens knives Charlie posted.
