The Club and Improvised weapons thread (Post your Handy work!)

And it looks like I managed to kill this thread. Hopefully this will get some new life in it.

Since this is a thread about improvised weapons as well as clubs here's a whole collection of improvised weapons.

Nah, you didn't kill it, from what I have seen, this thread disappears for a while then it will pop up all of a sudden, go on for a bit and disappear again, but anyways

those are cool, where did they come from?

top left one looks rather efficient

Seeing so many implements over the course of 12 pages made from galvanized iron piping I've come to the obvious question that needs to be asked. Does anybody know approximately how many pounds of force it would take to break the threaded end off the shaft from impact? Is my Bubba gonna break off at the head if I try and smash my way through a sheet of 3/4" plywood or a cinder block?

A while back I made a car hood penetrating nozzle using a pipe as the handle. Testing it was fun till around the 30th whack when the threads broke:mad:

To answer your question- Yes, the threads will break. You'll still have a pipe to swing at the cinder blocks though.
I don't know how many lbs of force it would take but it will break...

It's a pipe thread, so they will taper, so a bit more meat at the transition point. I just got a nice stainless chunk today, need to find a good stick for it and get it to fit.

I am starting to get interested in these clubs but I don't know much in the way of technique. Do I use any hardwood? Do I just find a place where a branch meets a larger branch or a trunk and cut that down to size?

As for add ons I can think of all sorts of things to make a mean weapon, like arrow heads for example, but I am not so sure about the shafts or the wood bulbs on basic clubs. I am sure I could find branches of local hardwoods here in Hawaii but never thought to use them till now. Usually it is just the larger pieces that are used for furniture and stuff.

Always use hardwood for a club. As for the clubs with the bulbs on them. I made mine from digging up saplings. Some will have small root-balls while others will have big. Sometimes people just find huge segments of a tree and carve it out with knife, axe, lathe, etc... I personally let mother-nature do half the work.

Like this one I made, It has a huge ball at the end for such a small diameter shaft.

As for putting objects on the head like a medieval mace, it is the same as putting axe head on the handle.

How did you find the branch to make this club? Was it just something you found out in the woods?

these aren't made from branches they're made from the root of a sapling. My relatives own property and they want to eventually dig up all the saplings. So do their neighbors as well. So once a week when I visit, I dig up saplings that I previously marked and make them into what you see. You would think that they wouldn't be all that strong, but surprisingly they are.

How do you dry out the roots to make them hard?

Letting season for a very long time. At least until most of the root is dried, but it will still take a long time. I always have an excess drying. So at least every month or so, one is dried out enought to work on.

Here is my most recent club made from a tree that was diseased tree at one point, this wasn't made from the root. It was made from a big knot. I call it The Snake Club, because its fast like a snake.

Havent posted recently, I'm busy as hell. I presently add this little monster to my collection. It came from a prison. Yes does are fence spikes and its made from a small toy bat.

Its painted black with multiple layers of shoe polish to help hided during night time rioting in the prison it came from. As you can see the security there is a joke

This one came from an evidence locker. It was used.... Don't know the details on it. Creepy thing to have...
