THE Hollow Handle Knife Thread

Think they will sell but in very limited numbers, most will be going to collectors and maybe a few to the outdoors enthusiasts, all will depend on the cost and quality of the knife. The Hollow handle knife have quite a bit of followers and if one take a look at this thread and the wide and vast amount of blade designs, sizes and features, one can see that is a subject that still maintain its popularity after all these years, but the particular taste of the buyer(s) will dictate (not always ) the longetivity of the design/styles that will drive the market and makers to keep offering new or bold new ideas in this particular field.

So, here's a question. If Case reintroduced these knives today, would they sell? I'd buy the one in the first photo in a heartbeat.

Ditto.

Im almost loath to invoke the 'A' word (aluminum) lest it sets of somebody with another tirade about how these handles makes for the worlds strongest and best knives, but Ive also looked at the vintage knives with this handle material from KaBar and Parker Brothers. Though vintage they are hollow handle and interesting if from nothing else then from a historical POV.

Good answer. Here's another question for everyone. Which discontinued HH survival knives (custom and production) do you think could make a decent comeback if reintroduced?

The Crain predator and commando knife, and not the insane priced one from Marifone.

Finished my daughters commissioning present, got the case fitted and a engraved name and rank plate will be here friday. Only 20 more days and she becomes a 2nd LT. I'm both excited and dreading it.

The mentos container has a small kit of goodies for the outdoors in it, kevlar string, matches, small flash light ect. There is a coil of coyote brown micro paracord under the foam to rewrap the handle if needed as well.

Hey CricketDave!!
That's really a great gift!!
You must be so proud!!
A great daughter, brought up by great parents!!

Honestly, I think a Buckmaster 184 with some modern updates could be a hit.

CDave, awesome gift! The Martin will serve your daughter well no doubts!

I was going to say the Buckmaster too. Not sure how they would do it though....

I am a Buckmaster fan boy from the 80's. I admit it; I loved bevelled pry-bars... :)

Most of the knives in this thread have aluminum handles. It is normal.

actually very few of these have aluminum handles. None of the Martins do and the Lile knives were steel as well.

Yep, a few alloy caps, but not handles. Only the Case' have allot handles from what I read: with leather over...

I wrote Newt in 2010 about the aluminum handles he was selling on his site, and we went back and forth. He didn't correct me, so I don't know if he used use aluminum or what. But I was also speaking of all the Lifeknives, Aitor, Kabar and Kizlyar, plus all the cheap ones.

If the Martins were never aluminum, then my apologies, but I got that from my conversation with Newt and his website.

My bad, guys......*sigh*

To steer us back on track: Did anybody handle/own/know of the 'Parker Brothers Chattanooga' HH knife?

Its an early eighties HH. Its most likely a cheapo and although of questionable usefulness for some outdoor users, as its more of a military style/bayo blade, I quite like the rakish look of the clip.

That's the name of the company and its home town, not a model name. Parker Brothers sold many HH knives, some are the aluminum cast handle type that were essentially a spin off of the Gerber MKII clones. They also sold a version of the plastic handled Lifeknife. I believe all of them were made in Japan. Even for a particular handle style there were often multiple blade shapes.

I have that bottom LifeKnife with the plastic handle with the ground to air symbols on it. Had it for probably 30 years!
