I see by that short belt loop, you like your knife to ride high. Nice work. What do you treat the leather with to get that great saddle tan color?

I use neats foot oil and set it in the sun to dry that gives it that color and makes it a bit more supple. For holsters and belts I use a regular fiebings dye and spray sheen, depending on the lining.

Well guys, guess what? That Incredible Knife Maker Ray Matton is finished making my Matton Edge First Blood Knife and handmade custom sheath!!! Ohhhh Yeahhhh!! I had Ray make the Sly II version sheath for my knife. I def. prefer the lanyard holes and round sharpener pouch over the movie version. Anyway, he is permanently assembling my awesome D2 steel blade FB knife today, marking it with his maker mark, and then sharpening it for me to a hair shaving sharp edge.

It will be the first D2 steel blade knife I have ever owned. Then Ray will ship that baby right on out to me!. In just a few days from now, maybe just 2, I will have this dream knife. Ohh, and let me tell you about Ray's customer service!! That experience was absolutely Phenominal!!!

All throughout the knife build process, Ray kept in constant contact with me via email. He asked me to make decisions about my knife versus making them for me. He sent sooo many pics all throughout the build process. He made me feel as though I was right there, in person, watching him make his masterpiece for me. Topped off with a few jokes here and there. Ray Matton's awesome customer service far surpasses any other experience I have ever received!!

Sam Wilson carries a similar awesome customer service skill. It is a true pleasure working with him as well!! I am waiting for my first of 2 handmade hh knives from Sam. I believe he is about done with one already!!

And you guys have done seen my incredible Martin MCE II knife!! LOL I think cricketdave and I have about the same tastes in our knives. Most certainly looks that way. I am planning on getting the Martin Handmade Surv9 too in the near future. Butine will have those dazzling serrations. Im a big fan of serrations. Believe me, Ive seen firsthand what they can do to flesh, bone, and skin. It aint pretty!!

Anyway, pics of my Matton FB knife will be posted when I receive.it. Thanks!!!

I finished this one up recently, and it is a little different from the regular models I do, so I wanted to put up a few pics. I waited a little bit, as the owner is a member of the forum, and I wanted to let him be the first to post pics, if he wanted. This one is 5160, with an 8 1/2" blade very nearly 2" wide, and the full MOA System. It also has a thin layer of micarta under the cord wrap.

I hope you like it.

Sam

I like everything about that. One day when I'm in Portland, we need to meet.:D

Went for a walk in the woods, didn't use a knife for anything but this gives you an idea of where it sits with the sheath I made.

OK. I must confess I'm totally geeking out on this thread. I'm a closet hollow handle knife nut. What can I say? I like them. I know everyone tells me I shouldn't but I absolutely do love hollow handled knives. Jim Nowka and I have talked about this subject at length on the podcast. This thread even came up a while ago. PLEASE keep posting your awesome pics. I'm checking this thread like twice daily! Love it!

I'm really enjoying it too, I hadn't had a hollow handle knife in probably 20years the new ones are built so much better than before that there is no comparison. Couple of pics showing off the sweet grind on my Martin

This thread really made me reconsider hollow handle knives. My first and only was one of those mail order ones when I was twelve or so, it broke within a week.

I got to wondering how to hook my sheath to a molle belt, and came up with a simple piece of kydex and 2 molle locks. Seems to work just fine.

Anyway you can take a pic of the inside of the handle on the Martin where the blade and handle are joined?.

I'm just curious how they do it.

There is a how they do it step by step of pics on Martin knives website. Look for Hollow handle tutorial, much better than the dark pic I tried to take. Basically he threads the tang to the the same size as the handle. When all the parts are ready to be put together he fills the handle to the top of the tang with aircraft epoxy when he screws the handle on.

That looks great cricketdave, I love the sheath. And that Surv9 looks sweet, I liked it before but I really love it without the saw teeth.

I got to get me one of those.

Yeah although I want one of the original style with the full saw teeth just because I really prefer without saw teeth for a user. I had a really unpleasant few minutes with a hog when I was much younger, never ever stick something hostile with a knife with saw teeth they hang on ribs like a bad dream. Especially if you just tackled the hog and are holding on for dear life. Worst beating I ever took.

Hello,

Today I got of the best news I've had since I received my Martin handmade MCE II knife. I received word that my brand new handmade First Blood knife, which he made for me, is now finished!!! And it was now time for the balance to be paid for!!! OHHHHH YEAHHHH!!! And as promised, I paid for that badboy right away!! OHHH YEAHHH!! That badass to the boneMatton Edge First Bloid knife is now officially Mine!!! Bought and paid for!!! OHHHHH YEAHHHH!! LOL

Ray is going to Ship it off to me by Friday, and then within mere days, my hands will be surrounding the handle ofThe Best Made Handmade First Blood Knives since the great legendary Jimmy Lile first originated it!! Of course, this is ny opinion. But I think that many people who know of Ray Matton and his awesome knifemaking quality work, and his Superb Numero Uno Customer Service skills and Professionalism, would agree with me!!

There are many awesome knife makers and makers of this historical knife (and there are those makers that are liars, pisers, and that take full credit as knife makers when they pay other services to actually do the work). All I can say is that I am extremely proud that I chose a Real True Honest knife maker to make my First Blood knife...right down to his own maker mark etching. And certainly not taking anything away from ither real, legit knife makers. And this is all just my opinion. But I am very content with my true legitimate knife maker choices. Andrew Clifford is Numero Uno to me, and will Always be Numero Uno!! And so is Mr. Ray Matton!! Thanks for reading. Will def post many pics when I receive the knife.
