THE Hollow Handle Knife Thread

Congrats demon! I have to say that I have closely studied all the different FB tribute knives (and sheaths) and IMO, Ray Matton's knife is one of the best. His attention to detail is amazing. The Matton FB knife that I saw was dead on and I mean, dead on. The only improvement he could make would be to install an early 80s Marbles gunstock compass like the original, but I know these are very hard to find. Standing by for photos.....

Finally got around to making a better sheath for the Boker Apparo, added a loop for a sharpener and some tie down points. Its not quite dry in this pic when it is I'll put it back on my emergency bag in the truck.

I like everything about that. One day when I'm in Portland, we need to meet.:D

Thank you, protourist. Let me know when you're in town. I look forward to it.

OK. I must confess I'm totally geeking out on this thread. I'm a closet hollow handle knife nut. What can I say? I like them. I know everyone tells me I shouldn't but I absolutely do love hollow handled knives. Jim Nowka and I have talked about this subject at length on the podcast. This thread even came up a while ago. PLEASE keep posting your awesome pics. I'm checking this thread like twice daily! Love it!

They are awesome, aren't they? And there are some great pics in here, too. Kyle, you should show off some of your knives here on the forums, if you haven't already. I think they would be well received here.

Hello,

Today I got of the best news I've had since I received my Martin handmade MCE II knife. I received word that my brand new handmade First Blood knife, which he made for me, is now finished!!! And it was now time for the balance to be paid for!!! OHHHHH YEAHHHH!!! And as promised, I paid for that badboy right away!! OHHH YEAHHH!! That badass to the boneMatton Edge First Bloid knife is now officially Mine!!! Bought and paid for!!! OHHHHH YEAHHHH!! LOL

Ray is going to Ship it off to me by Friday, and then within mere days, my hands will be surrounding the handle ofThe Best Made Handmade First Blood Knives since the great legendary Jimmy Lile first originated it!! Of course, this is ny opinion. But I think that many people who know of Ray Matton and his awesome knifemaking quality work, and his Superb Numero Uno Customer Service skills and Professionalism, would agree with me!!

There are many awesome knife makers and makers of this historical knife (and there are those makers that are liars, pisers, and that take full credit as knife makers when they pay other services to actually do the work). All I can say is that I am extremely proud that I chose a Real True Honest knife maker to make my First Blood knife...right down to his own maker mark etching. And certainly not taking anything away from ither real, legit knife makers. And this is all just my opinion. But I am very content with my true legitimate knife maker choices. Andrew Clifford is Numero Uno to me, and will Always be Numero Uno!! And so is Mr. Ray Matton!! Thanks for reading. Will def post many pics when I receive the knife.

We're looking forward to pics, demonbeast! And I agree, I think Matton puts out probably the finest FB knife around. VERY clean looking. Congratulations.

Did a little practicing starting a fire with just the fire steel I carry in my Martin surv9. I just cut some shavings and gathered a few dry leaves, sparked with the spine of my knife and fed a little more wood at a time.

Dave that really is a great looking knife. I really like the sheath too.

Thanks I'm really having fun with it. I'm pleased with the way the sheath came out, thinking about doing another with a fire steel loop next to the sharpening steel.

My new Squatch slayer. John Rambo would be proud. The Boker Apparo!

I plan on beating the snot out of this beast.

Hello,

A while back I came here and posted pic of my Handmade First Blood knife by Bill Schiller. In describing it, I made an error that.I feel needs to be Corrected: It is as follows:

I originally described the blade steel as being made with 440V steel. That was a misquote on my part. After further research...and finding my original descripton paper that came with the knife which I had.misplaced, I now know that the blade steel is 440C steel, and not 440V steel.

Just wanted to clear that up, and I deeply apologize for.the misquote. It was truly unintentional.

Thanks,

BW

Nice apparo panzer looks good, did it come with the kit in the handle? The only thing I wish they would do differently with it is make it out of better steel. 440c is ok just doesn't hold a edge as well as newer stainless steels. Are you going to drill out your buttcap and set the compass in it? Beat on it and use it good.

TDB no big deal I'm sure most people just thought it was a typo.

I can't figure out of the kit came with it or not. I bought the knife second hand, but the little tool roll is so cool! I was thinking of adding the compass but I don't have a drill press.

I did mine by hand with a hand drill, just gotta hold it real steady. I do like the little tool roll pretty sure its something the previous owner added.

Your nylon roll-up pouch was made by Bill Sanders, formerly with Timberline Knives. The pouch was an original Timberline idea from the early 80s. Bill Sanders and Vaughn Neeley still make and supply pouches with the survival knives they make under their own names.

I'd like to get my hands on one of those kits..

Yeah so would I, if I had a sewing machine for material other than leather I'd knock a few of those out, they don't look complicated. Thats got me thinking i'm gonna have to do some materials shopping. I'm thinking a ferro stick, kevlar cord, fat wood, a titanium razor blade, hmmmmm what else? maybe a fish hook and a sinker. I've caught a lot of fish on a stick with a string and hook when i was a kid. I'm gonna do some measuring and figuring.

dave i believe you. i can say i have never caught more fish in one day than i did when i was younger fishing with a one piece bamboo rod, with just line, hook, sinker, and small bobber. i caught so many that day my uncle had to hide most the fish in fear that the game warden would see!
oh and almost forgot.....crickets and worms as bait.

Next to getting my new Martin Knives. Handmade.MCE II knife, my Schiller handmade First Blood knife, and the Number One Andrew Clifford Sly II style knife, getting.the Ray Matton Knife is the best Blessing I have ever received. Actually All of these knives and owning them are Numero Uno to me.

But the Ray Matton knife is a very very special knife. In my opinion, Ray.Matton is just about the best First Blood.Tribute.Knife Maker there is. There are several high end makers of this knife. But it is Ray Matton whom I chose as the maker of my First Blood knife. Ray.has.the absolute Best Customer Service Skills I've ever seen and experienced.

But aside from this and from Ray being the best in.my book, I have a First.Blood handmade knife.that.was made in 2002 by Ray's friend and knife making teacher/.mentor, Mr. Bill Schiller. Bill Schiller, in his own right, also makes one the best First Blood.knives Ive.ever seen!!!
