It would seem, once opened and locked, you would need to unlock both sides at the same time to close it again.has any one ever tested this? taking both the lock plates from a right and lefty sebenza to make an ambidextrous sebenza? is this possible?
I wouldn't think the lock/blade interface would allow something like that. The tang of the blade is cut to allow the lock bar to engage. I'd presume putting a left handed lock on a right handed blade wouldn't let the lock engage.has any one ever tested this? taking both the lock plates from a right and lefty sebenza to make an ambidextrous sebenza? is this possible?
Wouldn’t work as the blade tang / lock face isn’t ground to accept the lock from both sides.has any one ever tested this? taking both the lock plates from a right and lefty sebenza to make an ambidextrous sebenza? is this possible?
That's what I was trying to articulate... My words got in the way.Wouldn’t work as the blade tang / lock face isn’t ground to accept the lock from both sides.
The thumb roll past the detent is your friend.I have large and small right-handed 31s. I can close my large 31 with my left hand much easier than I can open it with my left hand. Only having single thumb lug may be a contributor to that. So far, I can just barely open my double lug small 31 with my left hand. I need to keep practicing.![]()
Interesting. Thanks. The jimping is almost, but not quite, enough for a flipper, but it still helps a little.
I can thumb roll my Regulars, and barely a 21. Definately not a 31.
Are any of you able to do this on any 31? If so, I might need to play Dr. with mine. Loosen the pivot screw or do some fitting on the washers. Both my 31s are WAY too tight.
Wow. As I said, no way that either of mine will roll. I'll leave them be though.Yes, the lone 31 I have can be rolled out pretty easily by the jimping - not quite as easily as my 21's. The Inkosi(s) I have are noticeably easier than either Sebenza variant.
I wouldn't fudge with a knife just to achieve this however.
My 31 rolls very nice. Almost as nice as the inkosi. The 31 I just traded was the same.I can thumb roll my Regulars, and barely a 21. Definately not a 31.

The 31 uses the same bushing as the 21 so loosening the piviot isn’t need as it can only be so tight.
My Regular is super super smooth. When I first got it in 1998 it fought me every step of the way. That's what I thought. My large 31 shipped with threadlocker. When the pivot screw came loose the first time I figured that must be what it is for.
If I tighten the pivot screw all the way down (like with Regs and 21s), it's all I can do to open the knife with the thumb stud. Still working on it. Some day the knife will break in a little and my thumb will toughen up. It's much easier to open than it was out of the box.
Was anyone here around when Regs could be purchased new (and buying them)? I'm curious if they were a bit tough and tight out of the box as well?
Maybe break it down and give it a good clean and re-lube. I have had a couple come with some build grime now and then. That's what I thought. My large 31 shipped with threadlocker. When the pivot screw came loose the first time I figured that must be what it is for.
