The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

It would seem that we could just shut down the general knife discussion area and have a sticky saying 'just buy the paramilitary 2..' Problem solved.

And, no, your Spyderco is not fake.

There ya go. Fixed it.

This doesn't deserve it's own thread, and I don't want to rile anybody up toooo bad, but: what's the deal with all the obviously unused knives in the EDC thread? I mean, some of them look like they have been used, but about 80-90%, not so much....

Don't cut that paper with your "EDC"! Might scratch it! Don't cut your orange at lunch with it! It might get a patina! That one's for carry ONLY. Use your old beater to actually cut stuff!

And yes, I just posted a pic in there of a knife I hadn't used yet. It's got a lot of character on it now. I'll have to post an updated picture, because the irony is not lost on me!

Yeah kinda. IMO. Not quite getting the point.

But hey, more power to ya.

We'll see ;)

I personally think it fills a niche here in general. It allows for newbs to ask any questions they have (that have likely already been asked here way too many times), rather than starting new threads every time.
It can also be used to consolidate all of the minor things that don't deserve their own threads, and serve as a casual chatting thread for voicing your random comments, questions, stories, observations, etc. about knives.

Think of it as a "general within a general". But all sorts of crap can go into it without rhyme or reason, because it doesnt affect anyone outside of those reading the thread, unlike hundreds of pointless individual new threads would.
I dont know about you, but I, for one, really hate coming on here and seeing the first page of general filled with threads like "just got my PM2!", "S30v vs m390", "what knife should I buy", and " my PM2 just skinned its first deer today!"........

Put that stuff in here instead of making a new thread

I did some light batoning with my CRK 21 and a VG10 delica, and surprisingly, the delica did better with it's slim FFG profile. Sure, the Boyle dent is now even more dented and the lock bar feels "mushy" but it beats having to pull all that impacted wood out of the top of my Sebenza.......you strike the handle section, right?
If this is in the wrong place, Mod's feel free to move it.....I guess.:)

If there's one thing this thread won't be....... It's a batoning thread:eek::p

So instead, you can come in here and let the world know what's on your mind (or mailbox), but without seeming , like such a narcissistic A-hole by making a brand new thread just to share something nobody else cares much about:)

Wow. Nice of you to call a bunch of other members narcissist a holes who post useless crap.

Wow. Nice of you to call a bunch of other members narcissist a holes who post useless crap.

Nice of you to take things too seriously.

I just meant it as an exaggeration of the connotations surrounding threads about trivial things, which is that the poster is needing others to hear about their minor issue or something they did that day.The posters obviously aren't narcissistic a holes. I exaggerated to make a point

But I agree, that part was a bit too harsh sounding. I'll edit it

Despite this thread NOT being a delica thread, due to recent budget cuts, i might grab one instead of the chaparral i was planning on buying. Thanks i guess? :D

You're welcome! :D

But if I were you, I would save for the chap. I have both, and the chap is just an amazing little blade:thumbup:

In all seriousness as much as I love Spyderco I seem to be a fan of their drop points vs the leaf blade shape. I can't seem to get on with the leaf blade. It's why I continue with the Delica being my favorite knife.

Technically, I think the delicas blade is a leaf shape too, but I know what you mean. And I agree for knives like the sage series. Their blades just never grew on me

cchu518, that Chambriard is great lookin'! I'd never heard of them before.

ericzhao517, thanks! Yeah, I've lived in DC for more than ten years now and was out in Arlington for nearly as long before that. I hope you're right and thanks for the encouragement. The CQC8 is a honking blade; almost all my EDC choices would be smaller than that. You're also right that I pretty much never visit the touristy/federal/city buildings downtown so maybe I'm overstating things.
Check out the gec slim calf roper/case/bose Damascus muskrat/Northwoods hawthorne/to Davidson and Jared oeser as well as rough rider and buck... These will give you all the great patterns of slipjoints that are out there! The oeser and Davidson' are customs so they will run $200 and up. I havn't gotten there yet in my k if collecting.

The Le Thiers Chambriard come in different sizes and handle materials. These are in Juniper. I I've most of them though.
