The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

The recent "Elephant Tusk Banning" thread has got me thinking.
(Hypothetical morbidity) I wonder what kinda market there would be for knife scales and 1911 grips made from the bones of fallen enemy targets.
Imagine how much money can be had for a classic slip joint with scales with decorative inlays made from Bin Laden's teeth.

LBTS:rolleyes::D

Ok so I have a question......

I was pondering H1 steel the other day, and couldn't figure out why replacing the carbon with nitrogen would make the steel more corrosion resistant:confused:

The steel is still iron-based, right? And isnt it the iron in the steel that actually rusts? Not the carbon?

with ZT coming out with the 808 for 2015 it seems i found my ideal knife, ill just have to get a custom clip made for it to be a bit deeper carry

the reason that replacing the carbon with nitrogen makes it more corrosion resistant is because if you know chem at all carbon mixes with damn near everything so it allows oxygen to mix into the iron easier. if you put nitrogen into it since nitrogen doesn't really mix with much it doesn't give any room for oxygen to combine on a molecular level. the iron does rust, but the carbon doesn't do anything to prevent it may actually make it worse but dont quote that part, while the nitrogen actually actively prevents the oxidation process

The new offerings from Kershaw and ZT have been released. I am interested in the 808 from ZT and the Link looks interesting from Kershaw.

Haven't checked out Kershaw yet, but I am quite stoked on the 452. The 454 was the only flipper I was interested in, and I was quite bummed at the fact that I'd probably never get one. The 630 looks pretty cool too.

Wow, thank you! Finally an explaination:thumbup:

Makes sense too.

I am OFFICIALY done with BM. They have disappointed me for the last time.
Okay I just needed to get that out.
I'm real curious if there will be a new pm2 sprint run coming out.

I think I heard somewhere that sal stated he wouldn't be making any more new sprints for the para 2. Although, there's probably still a few coming out that were already being worked on when he said that.....

I hope so, it is by far my favorite knife behind the sebenza. I may just have to settle on getting one off the exchange.

The 808 is a real winner! And I've also got that Shield on my radar. I know I'll never be able to get an Eklipse or an 0392, so this may very well fill that void for me.

I mean, you know how much I love the Thermite

Today was a good day. Called last night and heard I was selected for jury duty today. I got to sleep in 2 hours because I didn't have to be there until 8:45.
Around 12 o'clock they made the final jury selection and I was dismissed....
The best part was I got the parts I ordered from ZT. It was a new pivot set and handle screws. I didn' t really need them but wanted extra parts just in case.... anyway, here's the good part. In the parts package there was the standard small and large bronze washers. The small washer is used because the larger one would partially cover the blade hole for the torsion bar. Since my 0566 is buttery smooth without the torsion bar, I was able to use the large washer from the parts pack. Now both sides of the blade have the large matching washers. The benefits I discovered was an even smoother opening and it removed the ever ever so slight blade play. Now it's 100% rock solid and still silky smooth. Just wanted to share in case anyone else has a de-assisted 0566 and wanted to make it just a tad bit better.

I used to have one of them there things ;)

Glad to here you're tinkering with it and getting it just the way you want it:thumbup:

Well I'm pretty psyched. I've never been into tops knives, but at shot they said that they'll be making a bob folder. This knife is likely to kill 2 birds with one stone for me. Hopefully it will have the same 4 5/8" blade and 1095. I really like large folders, but it's hard to find one that isn't super tactical looking. I also want a nice modern folder with 1095, so it looks like this knife will be right up my alley. The drawback however is that they mentioned MSRP to be around $250. That seems incredibly high for a g10/ carbon steel folder. Hopefully they pull their head out of their arse and significantly lower the price. All in all I'm stoked to see how it turns out.
