The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

Grinding a sword when the UPS delivery man walks up to my open shop with a box of metal pieces destined for hilt duty. I set down the blade and walk out to greet the driver and get the parcel.

"What are you making in this shop," he asks with a smile.

"Why, I'm making swords, sir," I respond. "Real ones!"

He recoils a few steps back with a look of confusion and even contempt, eyes wide and no more smile, and blurts, "Is that even legal?"

Yes, it's legal. -.- Gimme my sword parts! :D

Haha nice:D

I seriously don't understand people like this. What exactly do they expect you're going to do with the swords? Go on a lord of the rings inspired sword rampage through the streets?:rolleyes:

One sword to bring them, and in the darkness, grind them.

Yikes, page 5? Is everyone getting tired of this thread? :D

Time for an update:

I finally sent lil stabby in for the sharpening last week, and I just got a PM from the guy that he recieved it and would try to get to it tomorrow. I'm stoked to see just how nice it turns out:thumbup:

I mean I know how to put a nice polished edge on a knife, but I've never been patient enough to get a full mirror, so this should be interesting to see. And I bet it'll be next level sharp as well......

I also sent in the PM2 to keyman, so now the wait for the scales begins. Two months seems like forever!:grumpy::)

I look forward to seeing the pm2, and I had no idea the wait was that long. What scales are you getting? I really need to bight the bullet and send mine in to get some new scales. Right after I get Zeta to do some complementary anodizing work of course:D.

This is the type of cf he's going to be using. So just imagine that on a blacked out PM2:thumbup:

Lil stabby should be getting back tomorrow. Here's hoping its not lost in the mail!

In other news, I'm back on the market for another CRK...... Ideally, Id want the Damascus and cf inlayed like I posted a while ago, but who knows when they're getting them back in stock. I spotted a small box elder burl on GPKnives that I wouldn't mind grabbing for my birthday tomorrow.....

My favorite wood used by CRK was the Houndouran rosewood, but since they're relly hard to find, I guess I'll just have to "settle" for my second favorite:D

What about you guys? Anything new in the knife life?

Are you still carrying that custom AntDog?

So I was reading the Emerson vs cold steel thread.....

And a random thought came to me. How do you sharpen a chisel grind? Doesn't the burr flip onto the flat side?

Happy birthday! At first glance I thought that was a mammoth seb.
So when I got home today I noticed what looked like a couple checks from my school, but after all the financial aid I've gotten I've only paid around $500 for 3 semesters. So I figured there was no way they sent me 2 more checks. Well, I was wrong. I received a total of around $1,800! Now I just have to double check with the school before I cash them and make sure they're not going to turn around and say it was a typo.
So assuming everything is legit, I have been paid $1,300 to go to school! I mean I'm trying not to get my hopes, but as you can probably tell that's not working to well.

Good to hear:thumbup:

Whatchu been up to lately man? I haven't seen you around here much

I've been very busy the past 3 weeks! A machine at my work that does a couple of functions automatically has been down. Soooo, I've been scrambling from the second I walk in the door until the second I leave. Taking 5 minutes (literally) to eat lunch. By the time I got home I was far too tired to get on here man. It's been hell. But, on the bright side, me and the technician I called out fixed the machine today! Turned out to be a loose freaking wire! Urgh.... It took so damn long to figure that out. Everything else had to be ruled out first.

I should have more time to get on here now. And I should be in a much better mood too!

Can't wait to see pics of your new edge on lil stabby! Should be fantastic. Aren't you getting a set of cf scales put on something else too? I bet the wait is harsh! Always is.

I'm looking forward to a long, slow, relaxing, hard-earned weekend. I wish the same for all of you gents.

That sounds awful, man! Glad to see you've made it though that crappy situation. It's good to have you back:thumbup:

Yep, the para 2 will be getting back to me with a new set of pants sometime in the next two months. I think it's keymans first time with a pm2, so it should be pretty cool to see what he comes up with!

And thanks, my birthday really snuck up on me this year. I feel like it was just New Years last week:eek:

Hahha I missed your post!

That's pretty funny stuff right there:thumbup:

And about the mammoth seb.......I think they still have a mammoth large on the same site. If only I was willing to spend that much more just for the "coolness" of having some extremely old animal bits on my knife:p

That would be something else. I'm sure you've seen it already, but there's a small box elder on the exchange right now.

Nope, I hadnt seen it! Thank for the heads up man.

I hadn't bothered to check the exchange because I always go in there looking for something, never find it, then end up with something else:D

I might just go for this one if I can scrape up the necessary funds before it sells.

Oh and happy birthday to me! I placed the order for the wood inlayed small 21 a couple hours ago:thumbup:

I decided to go with the dealer even though it cost more because I really wanted everything mint

I feel you on that. If I'm spending that kind of money I'll gladly pay the extra $50 or so to have it pristine. I get so much more enjoyment out of watching it break in and develop all the little beauty marks. It's just a more satisfied feeling. I can't wait to see it.
I just emailed Chris Reeve hoping to get a dealer list for GA. Their sight wasn't working, and I'd really like to find somewhere where I can handle both a (preferably micarta) 25 and an umnum.
