The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

I feel you on that. If I'm spending that kind of money I'll gladly pay the extra $50 or so to have it pristine. I get so much more enjoyment out of watching it break in and develop all the little beauty marks. It's just a more satisfied feeling. I can't wait to see it.
I just emailed Chris Reeve hoping to get a dealer list for GA. Their sight wasn't working, and I'd really like to find somewhere where I can handle both a (preferably micarta) 25 and an umnum.

Yep, it's nice knowing that you're the first and only owner:)

Hope you get a chance to handle the knives you're looking at. I feel your pain, my only local knife shop is a tiny store at the mall that sells good stuff, but has maybe 1 sebenza and they really dislike taking it out of it's glass case to let you handle it.

Haha, yeah I've got a decent store down the road, but the main knives they focus on are benchmade and boker plus a good bit of traditionals. They have a mix of some spyderco, Kershaw, and I even saw a mini sere the last time I was there. Sadly I've never seen a CRK there though.

What's the deal with this? My shop is the same way. They have a massive case full of BM stuff, and another dedicated to boker. But only a couple shelves with spydies and Kershaws.....

They even had a gold class 710 last time I was there. They kept it in the same case as the seb:D

Those seem to be the two most popular high end knives for people who don't own high end knives. Somehow benchmade has secured their image as the go to military and law enforcement knives, and boker has been around for quite some time. The stores I frequent mainly sell guns, so knives are just sort of there to fill some space I guess. These stores aren't going to waist valuable floor space on some very little known brands and knives that look freakish to most(yeah, I'm talking to you spyderco). What I would do to find a dedicated knife shop.

Well son of a gun! I just checked back with the CRK dealer list and there aren't any in GA.

Nevermind I didn't realize you could scroll down. There is 1, but unfortunately it is almost 4 hrs away. Now if only I could come up with an excuse for a road trip.

Hey so I guess lil stabby isn't even in the mail yet. Ah well, I'll get it eventually

He just sent me a PM telling me he got it done and will be shipping tomorrow. He says he did 16 degrees per side. Not quite the 36 inclusive I had in mind, but I'm certainly not upset! Looks awesome

Check out the pic he took of the finished product:thumbup:

It's funny. The first thing I noticed was how much freaking steel was missing:D

But that's definately MY fault, not his. I shouldn't have practiced so much on it

Looks good to me! That thing should cut like a demon with laser beam eyes.

And I have to agree - seeing all the little marks appear on a brand new knife is one of the most fulfilling parts of knife ownership. Knowing it was untouched, and that all that character came from your own hands sometimes makes all the difference. Certainly fifty bucks worth, I'd reckon.

Happy birthday Krissig, and congrats on the new addition that's inbound! Be sure to shoot a few glamour shots before you scuff her up.

Thanks AntDog, will do.

I wonder which stabby will arrive first?:p

Well I'm jealous. 2 sebenzas in the mail. It seems like that edge will probably be easier to maintain too.

I don't think I'll be touching the edge for a while. It's too pretty:D

But I think my reluctance to resharpen will actually be a good thing. It'll give me a chance to see how long the s35 can really last.

I was just saying that the acute edge should be easier to maintain since it has more surface area which enables more stable strokes.
But I get not wanting to touch it.
On a non knife related side note, I just spent about 4 hours taking a political science test. So much for not studying, but thank god for Wikipedia. I've been able to skirt by in all my classes without so much as opening a book, but I'm thinking this class might require just a tad bit of effort. God I'm one lazy S.o.B.!

Oh please, don't talk to me about laziness:rolleyes:

All through high school I would Laissez faire my way through classes. In English I would be assigned reading every class for a couple weeks, but I'd only ever touch the book the night before the test. And usually I didn't even do that much. I just sparknoted it:p

I remember one semester when my math teacher was a real chill guy and didn't care when we turned in homework, I didn't do a single assignment until the weekend before the final.

Good times:D

Speaking of high school, did you ever have one of those days where you reached into your pocket to find your knife there? I do and then getting that overwhelming wave of OH S***! Of course this wasn't to terribly long(10 years give or take) so I got to experience all that joyous post 911/ Columbine crazeyness.

Oh Ive had a couple of scares like that. Once I left A knife in my pocket and realized it on my way in the front door. I only JUST caught it in time and I unclipped it and dropped it into my pocket before I walked in and everyone could see it. Thank God because my school is not exactly the lenient type.

I think I've mentioned it before, but I'm actually still IN high school. Graduating in a few months though, and I've spent so much time at local colleges lately that I almost feel like I've been out for the past year;)

This last birthday was my 18th

I must've missed that. I can't imagine carrying a sebenza around in high school. My Chinese folding turd did everything I wanted and then some. I was much more concerned with spending my money on pot and smokes. Oh the knives I could've bought with all that money...

My parents hated the local public schools, so they put me in privates all my life. That's probably why I turned out better than most, or at least why I'm pretty mature for my age.

I figured out after freshman year that all that shit was a big waste of time and money. Good thing too. I know a few guys that went down that road, and it's definately not something I'd want for myself. I like to keep my head clear.

One friend who did lots of pot early on in high school is now in rehab for coke ( he was kicked out when people found out, of course). Long hair and no brain cells:rolleyes:

As for smoking..... my dads been a smoker my whole life, so I've never had any urge to take up the habit.
