The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

Nice! Hey Krissig - I can't find out how to send you a PM on that Esee. I'm using tapatalk on my phone. Can you just send me an email?

That's gonna be a sweet knife man. You're getting it for your dad, right? I wish my old man had any interest in knives.

On an unrelated note, are there any knife makers doing traditional looking modern knives? I don't mean just like a Case Trapperlock, but a full on modern knife (think pb washers or bearings, liner lock, pocket clip of course, and a flipper tab would be icing on the cake) with polished bolsters and stag, bone, or wood. I think something like that would be incredibly cool. I love Ti and CF and g10 but if I could get a Ti flipper Barlow I don't think I'd ever carry anything else.

I am pretty sure Allen Davis and Elliot (?) do some stuff kind of like that. Check the custom maker exchange. I've seen quite a few ivory linerlocks, and Allen does a lot of moderns with bolsters if I'm not mistaken.

SadSappySucker is right on the money. Alan Davis and Eliot Moldonado have both done modern folders with ivory and I believe I have even seen jigged bone. I can't say I have ever seen them do a modern take on the Barlow pattern but they put out some really nice stuff. I have heard a lot of good things about Alan Davis' knives. I owned an Eliot, one of his first folders, and it need some fine tuning. I am sure he is better now.

Wouldn't any CRK with wood, micarta, or mammoth inlays fall under that category?

Oh yeah, I've been keeping an eye on Alan's knives for a while now, and Elliot's too. Both make great stuff, and my next purchase will probably be from Alan. That said, neither of them make anything that looks really traditional.

.........I'm a weak, weak person:o

And as of a few minutes ago, officially broke. Like under 100 bucks to my name broke. Good thing I'm getting paid soon, so Ill still be able to cover the cost of the custom once it's finished

But my dream benza has finally been acquired, so I'm happy:)

I guess this is the best time to do this sort of crap.......Once I move away for college, I'll have a lot more expenses to cover, and I predict CRKs won't be on high on my list of things to use my money for.

Well I want the hb, because I've yet to find that perfect large blade. However now I'm debating just going ahead and picking up the micarta 25.
Decisions decisions...

For the love of God, don't obsess over sharpening the DT. Congrats on the grail score man. Also, move away for college??? Are you a late goer or much younger than I initially thought?

Unfortunately it's not a DT, but it's still a cf inlay

And yes I'm only 18 and going to college this fall. I posted this a while back dude!

Sorry about that! I've been in and out of here lately, I've missed a few things it seems. Good for you anyway, still an awesome knife. I'm on mobile so I assumed without clicking. You can get it fitted with your choice of pattern in a few more months, if you still want the DT blade at that point.

Hey, I'd be proud! And broke! I would've loved to have had 3 Sebenzas at your age. Most of my money went into car stereos and saving for school...and wooing the womenfolk of course. :D

Wooing the wonenfolk? Don't speak old person to me Dog:p

And my knife addiction is certainly not helping in that area. Not only do I have less money, but they have one of two reactions when you tell them you're into collecting knives.... Either they think you're a nerdy weirdo, or they're really effing scared:D

Girls my age anyway
