The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

I still haven't got one dangit! But I will... I'm basically waiting til everywhere is well stocked and then check prices. Man those are sweet! I'm jealous of both of you. :P

Oh please. I would gladly trade it for that rucki you keep flaunting around:D:p

And if you get one just be sure it'll actually fit your hand. It's a little smaller than I expected and the only reason it works for me is because I have thin fingers.

Ohhhhhh, so it's small? I knew it was "smallish", but I didn't think it was truly small. I may have to re-evaluate... I have pretty huge hands. (XL-XXL glove size depending on how they run)

I don't think you'll need to worry about checking prices. If I'm not mistaken zt has that enforced pricing stuff. I checked probably 15 different sights and every one of them had the exact same price for the 0452s. Their other products like spydercos varied, but their zt's all seemed to stay the same.

Your looking at about 3 inches of room to get all four fingers, so I dunno. Maybe larger handed people can go past the "recommended" area for putting your fingers? There's still plenty hanging off the end

Damn. Looks too small! Thanks for the pic - I was thinking it was bigger than that. I think you just saved me from a pretty expensive flub! Well, crap. Anything bigger in the new lineup?
Actually, I'd like all y'all's ZT loving opinions on this. If I wanted a big brute, what should I be looking at? New, old, doesn't matter. I've had the 0300 and it was stout, but I never warmed up to it.

The 452cf is essentially just the larger version but with carbon fiber. Might take a look at that one

Or the 0562 G10 Elmax. (I know you're not a huge CF guy): Good news is these are pretty easy to find right now since everyone wants the Cf version.

Happy Easter everyone!:thumbup::)

Hope you're having a lot more fun than I am (the swelling apparently gets worse days 2-3:rolleyes:)

Well, just sold a few knives over in the exchange. Figured Id thin the herd a little.

Lil stabby:(, my 0770cf, and my SR2 now belong to some dude in chino CA, and my domino is headed out as well. You shoulda seen how freaking fast lil stabby sold at $150:eek::D

Ah well, it was time for me to let go of some of my unused knives, and I figured being a bit generous with the pricing would be the best way to show appreciation for this site and it's great members:thumbup:

Anyway, that was definitely the fastest $450 I've ever made!:D

How's everyone else doing? Anything new?

Well since this is the thread for random knife related thoughts, I figured I'd say this here..

I'm a very big fan of stuff made in the US. My favorite knife is. (Buck 110) That being said, I find it very surprising how good some of the current overseas stuff is. My new EDC is made in Taiwan, (CS Lonestar Hunter) and I now have four China-made slipjoints. Two are Bucks that are beautiful and function perfectly, and the other two are Schrades. The Schrades have more flaws and blemishes, but they are holding their edges surprisingly well, and their price makes me willing to beat up on them. I love my US knives but I find myself reaching for cheaper overseas knives more because of their cheapness, because I'm willing to risk them for heavier duty work. I really don't like this though. Is this a problem any of you have noticed in your own knife habits?

Note- I was very happy in getting the LSH to be carrying a knife made somewhere besides China like my previous EDC, so different countries do make an impact on my purchases. This problem is also the reason that I'm wanting to modify and EDC a 110 regularly as well.

I'm aight! Only thing new on the knife front is that I'm drawing up lots of designs for my own stuff. I'm just letting the creative juices flow. My brother and me are getting ready to start making some prototypes. For the first run it looks like we are going opposite ends of the spectrum - we've got a few bigguns, and a few liluns, but not any in between.
On another positive note, it's been 103 days since I had a cigarette. I still can't believe it. It's cheaper by a long shot too. I just got a juice that tastes exactly like froot loops and milk for cheap ($30 for 120ml - about enough for 1 1/2 months, maybe 2). Helps me stay off those stank sticks.

There's lots of great options for US made knives. ZT, Benchmade, spyderco, and CRK come to mind as far as modern style knives. I guess unconsciously I've been gravitating towards them for my EDC knives more so than Taiwanese or Chinese produced knives. However, that's not really because the overseas produced knives are necessarily worse. In fact I know for a fact that many of the US companies producing knives over there are actually making them just as high quality if not BETTER quality than the ones they produce (or could be producing) in the US. Spyderco is a great example of this. Many of their Taiwanese and Japanese models rival or even exceed the quality of their US made offerings.

Now, I don't now much about companies like buck or shrade as I'm not really into those types of knives. But I would assume the same is true for them as well. The only thing that really matters when it comes to this type of thing is how strict the company is on quality control. Physically, the overseas plants are capable of producing whatever quality the company desires. So long as their standards for quality don't slip, all is well.

Great to hear you're jumping right into the knife making! Can't wait to see what you and your brother end up putting out. I would be happy to be one of your first customers if I see something I like:thumbup::)

And congrats on the smoking milestone!

Happy Easter everyone!:thumbup::)

HAHA, yeah I remember my sister swelling up like a chipmunk.

And Antdog, I would be more than happy to "test out" your prototypes. Should I send you my address now or once they're complete?

And US made no longer determines whether I buy a knife or not. In a perfect world everything I bought would be produced here, but I just don't have that kind of cash. My Reate(china) has completely changed my view on foreign made knives. Its f and f are on par with US no question.

And I'm still whittling away at the esee 4. It's going slow, but the shock has worn off. I just can't afford to pick up a belt sander quite yet, so I've come to terms with the fact that I'll probably be working on this thing for a while to come. I try not to work on it to long, because I tend to get overwhelmed and burnt out. Slow and steady babey!

Alright so I've got some cash now, and I'm wondering, what should I be putting it towards next?

Part of me wants to keep saving until I can grab a Rockstead Hizen, and another part wants to just get another plain 21 but with a raindrop DT blade that I can swap over to my CF inlay.

Don't say it......that's stupid! Why not just send it in for a blade swap and save some money? Well I figure there's two advantages to buying the whole knife. One, I get the DT blade a LOT sooner this way, and two I also have a brand new plain Jane to beat on (with the original polished blade from the cf inlay)

So waddayall think?

Yeah, I'm the wrong person to be giving financial advice, so I think I'll pass on this one.
It's kind of funny, I was just looking at some Rocksteads, and pondering whether I could ever bring my self to carry a knife that expensive. Right now I quit considering stuff over $500, and my plain 21 is the only knife that's come close to that.

Lol:D

You would respond like this, ya old killjoy! I meant disposable cash.

I've got a plan for college already. My priorities aren't THAT screwed up;)

And besides, I only allow myself to spend on knives what I've gotten back from selling other knives. So now that I have some available, I'm wondering what new knife opportunities I should pursue.

This is shaping up to be a pretty good week. I got this northwoods today, and I believe my pm2 is coming back from spyderco friday. I got an email saying ups will be making a delivery to me friday, so I can only assume it's my pm2.
Heres the Presidential

And heres a bonus pick just for the heck of it

Cool. I talked to Keyman and he said my PM2 scales should be done any day now, so I guess we'll both be getting PM2s soon.
