The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

No fixed blades?!
Hey what Kershemerson is that?
I'd post my collection but it'd have to be an aerial shot. Just kidding - I don't have near as many knives as I used to.

I've got plenty of fixed blades, but this was just my folder collection. I don't really wheel and deal fixed blades like I do folders. The ones I have are pretty much here to stay, no matter how many I get.

And you definately have to post the pics some time! Its always been pretty ambiguous how many folders all of you guys have. I'd love to see them all in one shot so I can get a better idea. In terms of folders, I know from your posts that you've got the custom, some traditional I don't remember the name of, a sere, and........I'm not sure what else....

Oh and to answer your question the kershaw Emerson in the pic is the 6K that I got when they first came out. I seem to remember you have the black bladed version right?

Why is it that I've been cut more times by cardboard than by all of the knives I've ever owned?!
Dan paper cut on steroids! Cardboard and I don't have the best relationship...

How's everyone doing tonight?

Krissig, it's been a minute since I've posted in this thread. One of the hardest things I've done was to put my black lab Wolf down. He was the best dog I've ever owned. His hips were shot. We had the option of surgery and an axle and wheels to support his rear end. He was in pain. He just wanted to please us till the end. I can remember him wagging his tail as we brought him in to the vet. I think we made the right choice. Take care.

Thanks for sharing Sosa. I'm sorry to hear about your dog:(

Yeah, my little guy isn't doing too hot right now. We thought he was getting better for a while there, but it turns out he's still deep in the woods.

*Anybody reading this post, be warned. Read the rest at your own risk, cuz it's not too pretty....*

The main issue that caused all of this crap was him developing pancreatitis for some unknown reason, and the pain made him stop eating which over time started shutting his liver down. And all the while, he was having nasty bouts of diarrhea whenever he tried to eat anything, which since he spends all of his time outside, brought on flies and eventually maggots that opened up a big wound around his backside area. So we had the vet treat that issue first, and now we're giving him a cocktail of antibiotics, painkillers, and a daily IV to rehydrate him and restore his electrolytes. He seems to be eating a little more now that the pain meds are keeping the pain at bay, but it's still not all that much. We're probably going to try the "nuclear option" tomorrow, which involves a steroid shot that is supposed to help with the pancreatitis, but also has a lot of risk involved. Either it works and he starts getting better, or he goes downhill and we have to put him down.

Ugh, at this point the chances of a full recovery are pitifully slim.....

That sucks to hear about yalls pets. I can't imagine loosing my dog.
Here is the majority of my collection

My esee 4 and fantoni are in the garage, and I keep my buck 102 in my glove box. I probabely have a couple more knives laying around, but those are all the ones I carry.

Not bad, sappy! Love the pic too. Magnet, I presume?

Yes a magnet.
Oh yeah and I finally broke down and ordered a 3"brass higonokami, so that's on its way too.
I'm thinking about getting rid of the Fantoni as soon as I can get it fixed. The stand off screws keep loosening up to where the handle has slight play in it. I've tried loctight with no avail. But I'll probabely just keep tinkering with it if the only other option is sending it to Italy. Then I might get rid of the reate, because with the 2 of them gone I should be able to afford a micarta insingo.

Sucks that the fantoni is giving you so much trouble now. It sounded like you really liked it when it first came in.

Also, what reate is that? Horizon B?

Krissig, I was just catching up on this thread, sorry to hear about your cat. We have two, and even though I'm allergic to cats (I take a pill every day in order to live in my own home), I know it's going to be hard for me if something happened to one of them.

It is the hills. The Fantoni actually turned out slightly larger than I like. I would probably carry it alot if it was 100%, but the micarta insingo has just been eating at me for so long now.
And Antdog I'll keep that in mind. I mean it shouldn't be this difficult. You have to remove the scales to get to the standoffs(which go through one liner and thread into the other). I tried to loc tight them all down, and either there just isn't enough thread for the loc tight to catch or I didn't wait long enough for it to set up. I mean I get everything screwed down and assembled to where the knife's action is smooth as when new, but inevitably the stand offs losen back up just enough to get some, what feels like, lock rock. But really it is the handles moving from side to side. I'm in the process of talking to Fantoni right now, and I'm hoping they will let me ship it to knifeart for a replacement. Then they'll handle it from there.(I can dream.)
Plus I really don't want to get rid of it in this condition, because I wouldn't feel right asking anywhere near what I paid for it.

Thanks man. We're doing everything we possibly can, and praying a good deal as well. The good news is he's eating more now, and the pain meds are bringing down the inflammation as well as numbing the pain. So we decided to hold off on the steroid shot and see if he gets any better with just what he's on right now. I'm a little more hopeful now than yesterday, but this ordeal definitely isn't over yet.

Cats are funny pets, ya know? They don't tend to be as friendly as dogs, yet we still grow to be super attached to them. Ours is pretty much the epitome of a grumpy, antisocial cat, that only gets friendly when he needs a feeding, but I honestly couldnt imagine our family without him. He's been with us for too long.

I know exactly what you mean. Ours are a couple of weirdoes, but I couldn't imagine them not being at the door to greet us when we come home (after which they quickly walk away and totally act like they just happened to be lounging near the front door and what, we weren't waiting for you or anything!).

My mother had a cat who had somewhat similar health issues as yours, and they nursed her back to health with meals of boiled chicken. It worked, and she bounced back after a week or so, but holy lord of all that is holy, Cat boiled-chicken farts are the worst thing on this planet!!!

Lolz I can imagine:barf::D

Anyway, let's get back on topic guys. Sorry for derailing with my cat posts.

So sappy, you said you were also selling that reate hills? Do you not like it, or is it just because something has to go?

I've heard a lot of good things about them, and a while ago I was considering getting the horizon C. Just wish it wasn't so damn big.

Oh and how's the ESEE coming along? Still working away at that blackwood?

No, I like the Hills. I'm torn, part of me wants to mod it a little, and the other part of me sais you wont be happy until you get the insingo. Who knows what I'll actually do. Plus I've started to get into traditionals, so now there's a new traditional model I want every other day.
And I haven't touched the esee since the last time I posted a picture. I still need to get some lower grit.

I haven't read any previous posts but... here it goes:

Thanks to my love of knives, I'm probably the only heterosexual man with a butterfly on my chest.

Wow, just got the Hinderer and absolutely hate it. WAY too big in the 3.5 inch configuration, and I don't like the spanto grind at all.

I'm selling it now before it looses value, and going on the hunt for a 3 inch slicer instead.

3.5 is too big? Wow... I don't usually even waste time on anything smaller, and most of my knives have 4" plus blades.

It's the beefiness. The length is fine, but proportionally it's too big for my taste. The only one I had handled before this was the 3 inch wharnie, and this feels like a completely different knife.

You have to keep in mine I'm looking for an EDC, not a hard use knife. I need it to be pocketable and practical.
