The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

Oooo, that IS nice. Not a fan of the 3/4 hollow grind though. I prefer the flat.

I notice in that thread there was a lot of talk about lock rock issues. I think the best way to prevent being surprised by this issue is to buy one that was previously owned, but not used much. That way you can ask the seller if it has any play, and make sure you know everything there is to know about that particular specimen. That's the one thing you can't do when you order brand new from an online retailer. Most of them don't inspect each and every knife they send out.

Where could I get the combined fun of an auto and a Bali for ~$70? I'm open to it, but just think getting both cheapers is a way to increase the fun quotient...
Don't know about the autos. Maybe BladeHQ.
At $70, if I wanted something fun (but still a good, useful knife) I'd be looking at the Kershaw Knockout and a truckstop cheapo Bali to flip.
My son has the Knockout with OD green handle, black blade. It's a lot of fun to flip and it's a great knife. Good luck, and don't get in trouble with your knives.

I won't :p also, I think with this money, I'll get the two, but I am soon to be hired by neighborhood for a $475 job, so $150-200 will likely go toward a true "nice" knife... Then I'll need some serious help because I don't even know what I'd be looking at at that price (most expensive I've bought was a flash for 40 lol)

Yeah Strider makes so many variations it's hard to keep track of them all. I don't know if they make the flat ground blade in that color combo. It sure looks mean though!
Some internet vendors definitely WILL look your knife over for you if you ask them to. I think this vendor is BF approved, so I'll go ahead and toss it out there - Newgraham. They've looked at every individual knife I've asked them to, and every single one was just as he said it was. Perfect.
I think any seller worth their salt would do this. Especially on a multiple hundred dollar knife. I'd actually demand it, or find a different place to order from.

Explore the EDC thread and ask for names of the stuff you like. Then do some research into them. That's probably the easiest way to get a feel for the higher end stuff;)

Yeah I'm sure they'll inspect them if I ask, but still. They aren't going to go flipping them open a bunch of times and sometimes that's what's needed to expose lockup problems.

Oh and you're right about new graham knives, those guys are amazing:thumbup:

Paramilitary 2. BAM! I just saved you hours of searching for the "right" knife.
Seriously though, if you have $130 I would definitely get a pm2, and it's fun as hell to play with too.

Well unfortunately I am going to have to send the fantoni to Italy if I want it fixed. Now I'm not sure if I should sell it for a significant loss or pay for international shipping to send it in and still take a good loss. I'm done buying folders from companies that don't have a US customer service department. Well other than reate that is.

Ob and I just got my higo today.

This thing is really cool. I mean the blade rubs bad, has a good bit of side play, and it drastically needs a good sharpening, but I knew that their f and f was lousy already. I should be able to fix the majority of that. All in all I'm pretty stoked.

I don't know, I really like the blade shape and have always wanted a friction folder. It's kind of like an opinel I guess; simple construction, good value, classic design, decent steel for the price, etc... I believe it is one of or the oldest patented knives around. More nostalgia than anything else probably.

Ah, cool. I don't mean any offense, just wondering.

By all means enjoy your new steel man:thumbup:

Oh I will and none taken.
Well crap! I just realised i used nostalgia completely wrong. No I'm not from 19th century Japan, so that knife doesn't bring me back to my youth.
And now that I've been quoted there is no sense in editing:o

It's cool, the newbs don't know that. They'll think your super legit and old school:D

Just put Yoda in your avatar or something

In case anyone's wondering, I'm home sick today. That's why I'm posting more than I usually do at this time of day:)

I've been going through my collection and playing with all my blades. Just came to my moras and remembered how much I love zero ground scandis:D:thumbup:

Put this edge on it back when it first came in. It's really course becasue I stopped at the low grit diamond stone. Eats wood for breakfast!

Nothing wrong with Moras or Higos. Get better Kris! I'm pulling a double today because my coworker is sick for the 2nd day in a row. The creeping crud is making the rounds fellers...

Thanks Will:thumbup:

This ones a bit of an ass kicker. I just got it yesterday, but my cousin's been out of action for 3 days now.
