The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

3.5 is too big? Wow... I don't usually even waste time on anything smaller, and most of my knives have 4" plus blades.

Me too, unless it's a kerambit or slipjoint. A knife needs to be long enough to reach the vital organs.

This is completely random, but I had four knives on me when this was filmed. :D

Wow, just got the Hinderer and absolutely hate it. WAY too big in the 3.5 inch configuration, and I don't like the spanto grind at all.

I'm selling it now before it looses value, and going on the hunt for a 3 inch slicer instead.

Wow, sorry to hear it. It's always a pain to get in a knife you're excited for, only to have it be completely not what you're looking for once you get it in hand!

Lol this one was VERY far from what I was expecting. But I just sold it for almost what I paid, so I'm fine with not liking it. At least now I can cross a 3.5 off my list of "knives to try". I'm sure a 3 inch slicer will be much more my style.

Honestly though, I'm torn between buying that or just going back to another SNG. I know it sounds crazy, but even though it was just as beefy, if not more so, I really just loved how that knife fit my hand. And I think the overall profile appealed to me a lot more as well.

Hmmm, decisions decisions:)

Well hey, if you know what you like, go with what you know!

True, I think I'd better hold off on the 3 inch for a while and just get the SNG. It'll take a while to find the right configuration for the right price anyway, and by then Ill be ready to buy it. SNGs are pretty easy to find in comparison,

Right! Speaking of which, I believe that there's an arctic one in the Exchange right now that was pretty sweet. Of course, SNGs come up fairly often. I'm not a Strider guy myself, but they seem to do as brisk a trade as CRKs.

I've recently sold some stuff (large scale rc trucks) and now have $100 I'm going to drop on new knives! I was planning on getting a sword to start, but I've decided to go for a Böker Kalashnikov full size (had a mini... Too small for my mitts) and a "regal flipper" because I like the look and it's cheap (I already have a different ~$20 butterfly that has been solid if low edge retention for 2y now) so that's fun! Also, I see a lot here about peoples edc and I'm just over here with my SOG flash thinking, I love knives, but why pay more than ~$45? I'm a cheapskate, but the SOG flash is ~$40 has pretty good steel and a lifetime warrenty, and I just can't see having anything fit a daily carry role better... OTOH, if I had the funds i would have more expensive knives lol...

Or since you have CF stabby to cover utility, you could sink that $ into a nice Busse! :)

Yeah thanks, I saw that one. But ideally Id want it closer to brand new, and with earlier lockup.

CM offered to carbidize my last SNGs lock face for me, so I'll probably take him up on the offer after I get the new SNG. But even with the lockface carbidized, I see no reason to get a head start on lock wear.

I have to say, the coolest strider folder I've seen is Harris'. The all white w PD1 blade? That thing is 100% pure distilled awesome.

Well, if you have $100 free and clear to spend on knives, I'd suggest one knife you really like the looks of for $100. I think you would enjoy one really nice $100 knife more than 2 cheaper ones. Just my opinion. Best of luck no matter what you choose.

Lol, theres always that option........

But honestly, I can't justify buying any more fixed blades right now, no matter how awesome they are. The ones I have hardly seen any use lately because I haven't had a chance to get of the city, so why buy more ya know?

Folders, on the other hand, are always welcome:D

That's sounds badass. Whats the grind? Flat or 3/4?

If you're out there, post some pics Harris! I'd love to see it.

Yeah, but the reason for going for a couple of cheaper ones is bed yes the two combined is ~$70, and I like the variety (one auto and a Bali... Also, I have 2 springs for the Böker already so if it breaks, just pop a new one in) and being in school I'm not allowed to carry as often, so I can't justify ~$100 on something I'll only get to use on afternoons and weekends lol

You're still going to be spending the 100, so why not make those afternoons and weekends special by getting one really nice one instead?

Where could I get the combined fun of an auto and a Bali for ~$70? I'm open to it, but just think getting both cheapers is a way to increase the fun quotient...
