The New 2014 BladeForums KNIFE Thread!

Mastodon ivory and D2...................................sniff.

Are we even considering a small fixed blade, I think I mentioned that on the first thread pretty early on and it appears that there is a reasonable interest so I'm just curious if a fixed blade is a possibility or is it off the table for this year?

I have not tried to influence the cutleries as to a pattern, other than to show them knives if they ask.
With three of them in the bidding this year (although we don't have the final OK from Queen) I am hoping they will compete to produce something great.
I do have a couple of ideas if they do not - ahem - excel. But let's leave it at that for now.

How exciting Charlie! I didn't even know this was happening…for a second there, I thought I was going to have to get the 2014 Googleknife

I was sure it was an April fool joke. But as the day wore on, I started worrying!
It was an amazing prank, but I still think we should cover Spark's house in Toilet Paper!!

I was hoping to get a special Charlie Campagna design. If we get the choice.

Looking back a few pages it looks like Charlie is still working on pattern designs? Have I missed anything else?

FYI
I am in! x2 regardless of what it is.

PS
Can't tell from what I read but is GEC the brand? If so that's freaking AWESOME!

They are one of three possible makers. See below.

Thanks Ed, Ted, Jack, and all who provided pictures of past BF knives!
They are very helpful for the cutleries.
Queen, Canal Street and Great Eastern have been asked to propose a Forum knife. I am putting in a (to be announced) pattern request, along with one they propose. With any luck, we will have 6 knives to choose from.
The response to Stag handles has been very overwhelming, so I am working on the premise we will accept John Lloyd's most generous offer.

That was the first traditional forums knife, 2006 Canal Street Cutlery Ring Opener Pen Knife. IIRC, there were only 38 made that first time...

What is a ring opener? Nevermind, I just found it.

The blades open by turning the rings in the bolsters instead of using nail marks, in order to save one's fingernails from breaking.

I'm not following all the ins and outs of the developments.

If the new committee that is pulling the poll together (great idea, btw), I'll just toss in a request for another 2 blade knife with the spear/cap lifter combo.

The tear drop jack was a killer and seeing that redone (really) would be just fine.

Related, I would be all over a Canoe variant with spear main and cap lifter second.

Would love to see a flat ground, full tang fixed blade too with blade length in the 4". Maybe a special run of the Queen Drop Point hunter or similar.

Watching.

I am really looking forward to this! Thanks Charlie for this and of course I am in for at least one. I think having the companies bid with their designs is a stroke of genius! Any of them are capable of outstanding work! Steven

2014 BladeForums knife? Looks like it is a go?

Back to checking the same thread several times a day for updates. Boy, I've got this sickness bad! :)

You think it's bad now, wait'll you know what it's gonna be, you'll be going crazy. :)

I'll definitely be in for whatever comes up. Personally hoping for a small one this year, but I'm ready to support anything.
