The New 2014 BladeForums KNIFE Thread!

Thanks Ed, Ted, Jack, and all who provided pictures of past BF knives!
They are very helpful for the cutleries.
Queen, Canal Street and Great Eastern have been asked to propose a Forum knife. I am putting in a (to be announced) pattern request, along with one they propose. With any luck, we will have 6 knives to choose from.
The response to Stag handles has been very overwhelming, so I am working on the premise we will accept John Lloyd's most generous offer.

I am resting easy with you at the helm and with John Lloyd's most generous offer

All the comments regarding your particular manufacturer recommendations need to be in the other thread. If you find your post moved, that's where it will be. This thread is to gather comments on the process that Charlie spelled out in his original post. Here's a quote from the original post in case you've forgotten.
News in Post # 193!

News in Post #133
We are not home yet, because I need some feedback and approval from you folks.
The past projects have been a lot of work, time-consuming and tedious, so I am going to propose a streamlined method.
I am going to ask you all to consider that, with a few advisors here, and after duly reading the proposals so far in the other thread that has been flowing along for some weeks now, we propose 4 to 6 choices in a poll, and you tell us which you want.

We will verify that the knives can be made easily (existing or new tooling), and will get to you for UNDER $100!! Or well less than $100!! We will make sure there is a variety.

Knowtracks (Dave) will be our official pollster, and I may ask one or two of you who have offered assistance to help, but for now, let's talk about this, the method and not the knives yet please, to see if you approve.

Thanks for your patience, and feedback, in advance!

Let's keep it on topic please.

Thanks for keeping this thread on track Gary!
I have been wrapped up in the Oregon Knife Show journey, and have not heard anything definitive from the cutleries yet.
I am checking in with them weekly, to keep our project on the agenda.

:thumbup: Glad to help, Charlie. I'm happy to hear you had a good time and that you have your ear to the ground with the manufacturers. I can't think of anyone I'd rather have captaining this ship...

I think the process is perfect.

Thanks Hale Storm! Encouragement helps!

Some News:
I had a talk with Ken Daniels last night. For those new folks, Ken has recently become the owner of Queen Cutlery, and is also the CEO. I appreciate him taking time out from his busy schedule to keep me informed.
He just had an organizational meeting with Jenny Moore, the President, and they could not work a Forum knife into the schedule for this year. I am happy for them, being so busy, but disappointed that they cannot work with us for 2014.
So far we have a Yes from GEC, a No from Queen, and are waiting on an answer from Canal Street.

Thanks for the update Charlie!

Thanks Charlie. I was hoping that Queen would at least step up and possibly make an effort with one of their current patterns but if it's not to be, it's not to be. I shouldn't think Canal Street is up for such a large order but you never know. This year I'm going with the flow. Once again, thanks for your efforts.

If like to echo the same sentiment, thanks for the update Charlie , as for going with the flow Ed, that's what I do every forum knife and it's been enjoyable for every knife so far. :)

I appreciate the update, and am eagerly waiting for the next bit of news:thumbup: thanks for your work on this!

I'm a little disappointed about Queen, I know the majority have been disappointed with their quality control recently but I haven't had a problem with their new designs at all. I was looking forward to seeing more of a contest. I like GEC but sometimes I feel like this is becoming 'the GEC sub forum'.

As Charlie said, I'm happy that they're so busy this year that they can't fit us in, that makes me hopeful about new releases from Queen coming up.

Just Canal Street left to reply. C'mon canal street! :)

Thanks again Charlie,

Paul

I just noticed this thread late last night:o
Charlie, Thank You sir, for grabbing this bull by the horns and running with it!:thumbup:

What an incredibly generous offer from John on the stag!:thumbup:

To whomever is behind the scenes as well, a great big pat on the back to each and every one of you!

Very glad to see Charlie heading this up. I trust your judgment a lot.

I hope it is ok to make the following comment here: no matter who makes it, I hope it can be a nice, smooth, easy to open knife, more-or-less built to current Waynorth standards.
