Never had a knife in stag ... never liked the looks ... but it is Charlie and official BF ... guess it is about time I give it a try *sigh* ;)

Brian, that thing is ridiculous! But in a good way.

Does Phat Stag come with gold teeth or some other type of bling?

I agree. If it is so "phat" it should at least have golden liners and a "plushy" violet lanyard ;)

I have heard some definite news from both cutleries!

Canal Street has offered a nice pattern, already in production, in our choice of a one or two blade Knife, in 1095 or 440C!! This could be a chance for a stainless knife, for those who have been pushing for one. A BF tang stamp, and a disc shield with BFC in raised letters is part of the package!!

GEC is offering a new pattern, in 1095, with a BF tang stamp, and a hound's-tooth shield. The drawings are not public-ready yet, so I will wait to show the pics until both are ready! This is to be fair to both, and not my usual teasing!!:o

The real good news is, the offered knives will be comfortably under $100 shipped to you in the USA and Canada.
Offshore shipping will of course have some extra cost!

This is getting exciting Charlie! I don't know if I missed this somewhere, or if it hasn't been decided yet, but do you know what the length of the knife will be?

Charlie, once again thank you for the time and effort you're putting into this. Please extend our thanks to the representatives of both CSC and GEC for their efforts too!

I am down for whatever is produced and whatever is chosen regardless of the potential width of the scales. I think your mentioning of the fact that every order will remain boxed until opened by the recipient was both diplomatic and wise. If we are not a fan of what's inside our own boxes we can swap amongst ourselves via the exchange if necessary. I would imagine that whichever manufacturer gets the nod will endeavour to keep the whole order as uniform as possible. Considering the material has been kindly offered for free, I shall be content with the process you have outlined.

Great work boss, keep it up :)

Paul

I don't buy as many knives as collectors but well over three quarters of the knives I own are Charlie SFO's.

Charlie you know what you're about and this knife will be as stellar as all the rest I'm sure. Looking forward to picking one up.

Am I the only one here that feels like a kid at Christmas? There is a present under the tree and I wanna see what's in it!

I'm relatively new to the forum and just came across this thread today. I'm in! I'm not sure how you get your name on an official list, but I'd like to get in on this. John, thanks for the generous donation of the Stag.

Yeah! What Paul said! Can't wait to see what gets rolled out for a vote. Either way I'm in.

Thanks Phil! And thanks to everyone who commented. I am not against any of the suggested "mods" to this knife. :D

Now I do like me some phat stag but more along these lines.

As for the knife details I'm most interested in seeing the stainless offering from canal street. Whatever it ends up being its gonna be good. Thanks for the update Charlie.

I think I'll get the Mrs to wrap something up in a small box just so I can heft it ,rattle it and hold it up to the light to guess at its content.

Back several years, I had a talented young cutler re-handle these Schatt HJs in stag. As long as it had to be done, I asked him to "Sheffield" one of them, and "Fat" the other.
"Sheffield style" are the words I use to define stag fitted flush to the bolsters, with texture right to the bolster edge. He did a good job, IMO.
Fat stag almost always has to have an expanse of white showing.
Nowadays it is hard to fit it "Sheffield" style. It simply costs more!
If you are cutting your own stag, and have a vast supply, it is possible, but when you are paying by the piece, it gets real expensive, fast!

If one has to grind off most of the bark to achieve thin stag or "Sheffield style" hafting.....I think amber stag would be the way to go. I do understand the likes and dislike of amber stag especially for traditionalists....but most stag knives I make to order want amber stag...for whatever reason. Amber stag polishes like crazy while much of todays stag does not.
