The New 2014 BladeForums KNIFE Thread!

My! 4 pages already! As has been said here but is well worth repeating THANK YOU Charlie!
If a dealer here at Bladeforums had not stepped up to take on this project there would NOT have been a forum knife this year. And in all likely hood not in future years. As many of you know Charlie has his hands full already making his own SFO's so everyone on the team will be very protective of him. :D He is taking this on because he loves Traditional pocketknives as much as anyone here & for some reason has grown attached to many of the fine folks that frequent this forum. There are many of us here who are fortunate to call Charlie a friend.

As for the Stag, how GREAT is that?? John Lloyd a knife maker on this forum DONATED all the Stag for this project! That sets him back a pretty penny! I know some folks would rather see something else for covers but how can we turn down such a generous offer and keep this knife @ $100 ?? All I can say is THANK YOU John! I hope I can repay your kindness someday.
I will try to field any questions from the troops to leave Charlie to do the important stuff and the Mods will keep it going in 1 direction as usual. Both Gary and Frank have a thankless job here without the forum knife and I really APPRECIATE their work for this forum.
Now with all that said I think Blademan put it best!

I think the plan as Charlie has laid it out sounds perfect. I hope everyone remembers the goal here is to produce a knife to satisfy the group, not the individual. Participate when asked, contribute, see what evolves, buy it if you like it, pass if you don't. Real simple process. Considering Charlie has the reins, a supply of stag and looking to get these out the door @ $100 already makes this one a winner.

Lets all enjoy the ride!!
Dave

Thanks, Dave, for all that you've written above and the hearts (and expertise) being brought to bear on this undertaking.

This annual knife feels like it might actually embody some measure of the elusive idea of "support[ing] the Traditional subforum"; given the generosity revealed in the above, the knife is already an expression and outworking of the sense of community and good company so many of us have come to enjoy (and been active in furthering) here in our midst.

Pertinux, I posted this in the other forum knife thread, but it probably fits better here and fits with your comments.

I think folks need to stop thinking of the specific design or pattern and think of the upcoming Traditional Forum knife as a community knife and one that you don't necessarily have to use. I was certainly guilty of this with regard to the 2013 forum knife. Think of it as buying a couple rounds of drinks for friends or taking a couple 5ths of liquor to a party..... If you are part of the community here, you should try to purchase this knife and help make it a success.

To me, the community aspect was lost last year from my point of view.

This is good news and I'm glad it will be a streamlined process-something I suggested early on in the 14 thread. It will eliminate bickering and imagined grievances too.

This means we can have a tidy knife from a proven pattern with very good handles, thanks be to all those making it happen.

I look forward to the streamlined polls.

Great news!!!

I am definitely in for one (two if it really strikes my fancy).

Many thanks for stepping up and a big thank you to Mr. Lloyd for the stag!

This is great news. I'm in for two regardless of pattern. Many thanks for all the work and contributions made to get this accomplished.

Wow, that really is great news, I was starting to despair of a forum knife happening at all this year and then this! Charlie taking the reins and free stag thrown in! Amazing! I tell ya too, I've been having a crappy weekend, plumbing stuff here at the house, nothing major just a big messy pain in the gigi. This definitely brightened up my weekend considerably. Thanks guy!

bingo! and in light of that.....

I want to say thanks to all the people who are making this happen. Even if I don't like the knife and pass on it , I appreciate the opportunity and will buy one.
fixed this!
(not a slam on squashfan, just a statement of support in light of a LOT of comments I saw last year)

No way this BF newbie is going to pass on this opportunity; regardless of pattern, count me in!

Much thanks to everybody involved. I vote we let Charlie just design the knife. His SFO's have all been spectacular.

Charlie, John Loyd, Dave thank you all for taking on this effort! Free Stag wow that is generous!!

I am in for one, regardless of the pattern chosen. Looking forward to the polling:)

As others have said, thanks to all involved.
I'm in.

I'm glad this appears to be moving forward. I was in regardless of who was leading it, or frankly, what it came out looking like (or costing, within reason), but this is all great news.

I'm in!

I would like to add a thank you to Charlie for taking this on. Mr. Lloyd you are a great guy thank you.

I am greatly intrigued by this project thus far,two of my favorites collaborating, both extremely generous men.

Robin you know I'm with you on your thinking, the one with the curves.

I did a little math?,at 250 knives for median stag handles @ $40,sold by one of the leading suppliers(besides John). 250@ $40= $10,000

Amazing generosity by John and Charlie, neither with much to gain themselves, except personal gratitude. It is more blessed to give than receive... But sometimes not as easy....
I like you guys.

I like the way things are shaping up this year! I think this more streamlined process will help a lot. I will certainly be in for one of whatever is decided upon.
