Ahh man, and you just recently picked up this most recent job. Sorry to hear your looking again, but my gut tells me your next one is gonna be even better.
Thanks man. Yeah, it was bittersweet. Bitter, in the sense it didn't take me long to realize what was going on there, and also the distance I had to drive everyday. 70 miles per day round trip. Sweet, in at least it was a job. It just wasn't worth it though.

Thanks man, appreciate it. I wish I would have saved more from whence I wore a younger man's clothes, so I could retire early, but that's not gonna happen. I'm one of the people that actually likes to work, I always have, but tbh, I'm just kinda sorta gettin' tired of the rat race.

I hear ya. I also wish I would have saved more, and purchased land or gold instead of trucks/toys/etc.

The older I get, the more I realize how reckless I was with my hard earned money.

It doesn't help much looking at my 401k I saved with when I was working at my last corporate position. It is shrinking fast, and in all honesty I shoulda just put the exact amount my employer matched and nothing more.

Dangit, The Dubz deserves a steady, rewarding gig that isn't rife with idiots!!

I hear you on that. And I understand enjoying having a job ... it's just really nice to have one that doesn't stress the hell outta ya!

Ever thought about starting your own business?
Yes, but I don't know what it would be. I'm okay at a lot of things, but not great at a given task pretty much. I had thought about knife making many times, but I would have to build a shop to begin with, etc, etc...

Thanks man. You can't believe how bad it was there. I loved it first, but, like I said, it went downhill real fast like. Bunch of thieves there.

When I left the comfort of a steady pay check and benefits, I had to learn to take on whatever was available, and even hustle to make money in creative ways. While I farm specialty crops, I still feel insecure so I subsidized with side jobs.

I started mowing lawns again, took on jobs for property brokers cleaning houses or painting, did some drywall work, washed cars, planted seeds and sold potted plants, play music gigs, grew and sold sweet corn, cleared fallen trees, consulted for other farms, you name it.

While I am grateful the farm income now makes enough to pay me, I am painfully aware I can't take it for granted. So I still take on whatever I
can to earn income.

Kinda sucks, but I got a family to support so it is what it is.

I hope your able to find some secure work that you enjoy.

Why nothing more? I've got another decade+ or so until retirement and I'm at the point maximizing everything counts....

Though I should have been wise enough to realize this earlier...

Well there are a lot of factors, and many of them are subjective to each person.

I would never presume to influence someone else's financial preference.

For me, I would have been able to use a lot of that money in ways to create much higher returns and cash flow. Money held in a 401k has no way to be liquidated without severe penalty. Also, taxes keep getting higher, not lower.

I also would have only put as much in my 401k as my employer match, then used other money in a Roth account, or another investment to spread risk.

When looking at my 401k today, the current markets have dunked, and I have lost a ton of money. If I were at retirement age, this would hurt. Luckily I have time to cross my fingers and hope the markets bounce back.

There are so many variables that it's hard to predict what works best for an individual. If you are happy with what your doing now, and that's all good. I applaud you for aggressively saving for your retirement!
