Welcome back, I wish it were under better circumstance. Very nice photo!
Good luck with your sales. :)

Dang, GSOM! :(
I hope circumstances start to turn in your favor. I for one think you're worth more than $1/hr from the neck up.

I won't presume to understand anybody's circumstances, but I want to point out to folks that it's open enrollment season for health insurance right now (in the USA). I believe most states have their own local insurance marketplaces organized by the state via the Affordable Care Act (aka "Obamacare"). Your state's website will have info, or go to healthcare.gov to get routed. When Hefty Lefty was diagnosed at stage-4 back in 2014, we moved her off my employer-managed insurance onto her own plan via this arrangement, which is how I got familiar with it.

When I quit my job w/ nothing lined up in 2019, rather than do COBRA (bleh!), I got a BCBS plan thru RI's marketplace. Rates are pretty typical. Rates are also subsidized, so if you don't have a lot of income or are unemployed, they are discounted sometimes quite substantially, to ensure insurance (see what I did there?).

When I started working full time again in the fall I was offered a salary and health insurance for a 1yr appointment. I said: I have my own and don't want to switch back and forth. Will you reimburse me the employer's portion that you offer? (typically 50%). They said: "I'm authorized to offer you this much more salary". So I have my own insurance, completely independent of employment and plan to keep it that way. Yes, I have to pay it every month, but I simply remind myself that if my employer were handling it, it would cost the same and would simply be out of sight.

Now try finding a doctor... that's another whole ball of wax.

That's good advice, daiz.
It has been an opportunity to get insurance from the exchange and subsidies for my U18 child - WAY cheaper than employer based - but finding a doctor is only half the problem: the other 2 are finding enuf $$ to visit them and THEN convincing the BW Hospital (group) that doesn't take ur insurance in MA that they do for their NH patients and that they are contractually obligated to do so. Which only took about two months, in the instance of getting a steroid injection in one of my busted wings. I can see how and why these systems that are supposed to be "safety nets" break the less fortunate instead of catching them. Mostly, because they were designed to have the look of robustness, when what it really seems like is an architectural facade, for the most part: they look substantive but there's not as much behind them, in reality. I have a BSECE degree and I've already effed up a couple things that have derailed trains in all kinds of depots. If you tell one department one thing and there's any inconsistency in another, you could screw yourself and not know it: the most current thing I'm disconfuckulating, I didn't even know I'd confuckulated in the first place. My doc checked a "no" box and I read the whole document and only saw all the recommendations, not that box - and the functionaries at the state saw the box checked and discontinued reading, like Pakleds or something, completely disregarding the rest of the statement which made it quite obvious the box had been checked in error....but that's using actual logic.
Lucky for my still at home dependent, she gets a heaping helping of state services that are made pretty easy for her to access - mostly.

YUP.
Lots of decent folk involved at the individual level, but calling it a 'system' is complete disinformation.

We got about 2-2.5" of cold rain today. Our high was at 1 AM and it never got out of the 40's this afternoon

It was supposed to hit 80° today. Not sure if it did. Probably close. It's 70° right now.

I'm on a mission.
I've had a sego palm tree in a large planter outside our front door at work. I bought it as a pup in the early 2000's. The boss had a plant there that died, I tried pouring on miracle grow to try and save his plant, but it died. So I dropped the sego pup into the planter with all that miracle grow mixed into the soil. Yea, it grew big! The trouble is the spines are everywhere on them and a customer's young daughter got stuck and complained to the boss.
So, I moved the now 4' tall plant out to the driveway side yard planter near the fence to help deter would-be burglars in the process.
Speaking of burglars; the gubmint says no electro-fencing allowed, no no no. The insurance says no razor-wire atop of the back fence.
Well $#i7!! Everybody at work says, "Get a dog." I don't see no dog yet. ??

"Ok.", I tells myself, think like a desert rat, go find cacti. "For ornamental purposes only!" You understand! ;)
~~
Plant the whole back fence, that's what I say. It's "drought tolerant landscaping" Mr. Newsome. Seeing as how you can't fix a water leak.
~~
~~
Jumping cholla, prickley pear, barrel, agave, yucca, .... the list goes on and on.
~~
I never thought cacti could be so interesting and entertaining. But yes, there will be spines, oh yes.

Nice work man. I was doing doing pretty good, until I got away from working.

Mike!! Its been a while! Its good to see you posting/visiting again! I hope good fortune can smile on you soon. You deserve it. I'm recently back on the forums myself. It is good to see the folks are still kicking it. I'm mostly just in this sub, though. Getting ready for Beckerwest!!

Am I the only one that has to do a two step verification just to get back in even though I have a login? 🤬

It's a setting you can uncheck - or click on the "remember me for 30 days" box before confirmation

Yeah, I do not have my browser set to save cookies (because every site anyone visits these days makes you accept them.) So, the site thinks I'm brand new every time. Stupid interwebs. I just wonder why the hell its necessary. BladeForums is next level Galactic Empire shit, I guess.

I have a code clearance in order to land on the forest moon. Its an older code, but it checks out.

it's necessary, to preserve some stats, like last read, and other details, that the owner of the website doesn't want to pay storage for, in short. in practice, they can also use it to track you, and other fun facts. in day to day, you leave it on, as well as most javascript, allowing ad blocking scripts smarter than all of us, to do the heavy lifting for you, and hope for the best :D. i have this $999 answer was valuable to you :)

Yeah, I knew all that already.

I really just wanted someone else to say something like, "yeah it is stupid."
