The San Diego ART KNIFE INVITATIONAL coming up!

Guys, those who emailed me and those others who are just wondering
why I am posting ONLY Julie Warenski/Curt Erickson knives from the
2011 AKI and nothing else...

Well, regretfully, most of the knives in this show WERE NOT PHOTOGRAPHED
at the show itself, save for a few (Michael Walker's, for example) and I hope
to be able to display some of them here soon.

Julie & Curt's knives were photographed some time before the show
as per my special request...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

WOW!! Some amazing knives posted. I agree that the Dolphin folder is an incredible knife by an incredible artist. That San Francisco dagger is impressive also!

This beautiful little ivory handle hunter was Curt and Julie's
6th 2011 AKI knife. What a beauty!

All the best,

It's suprising to me that such a fine assembly of custom cutlery would not be photographed.

Not professionally photographed but a great knife from the show that I'd like to share. I was lucky and drawn for this Ron Lake large Orion model. It has a Devin Thomas un-etched spirograph damascus "point chute" blade, premium stag inlays,
a gold lock release and a gold shield held in with white gold pins (according to Ron Lake the largest shield he has ever put on a knife) double nail nick and the Lake mirror logo.

Several of the makers already had their knives photographed by Point Seven, Coop, etc. They chose not to have them photographed again at the show.

^^^ Okay, well hopefully we'll get to see some more. That Lake is just gorgeous Martin - thanks!

Roger

To the best of my knowledge, I've only photographed one knife for the show: An older Bob Loveless 'Little Bear' stag subhilt that Jim Merritt brought to the show. It's stunning.

My client brought me (8) knives acquired from the show, but this was the only show exhibit. Nothing earlier from anyone else.

Martin: That's the knife we chatted about, and BOY is is sweeeet. Congrats!

David, thanks for posting what you have.

Here is a picture Dr. Fred Carter sent me of his beautiful
AKI 2011 Ivory Fighter...

Being fond of ivory, I find the Curt/Julie hunter and Carter fighter just STUNNING! Of course that Lake is...well, simply put, a Lake!

I remember the first time that Julie flowed the engraving into the ivory on a hunter of Curt's, must have been about three years ago. It was a really pretty little hunter, but this one is GLORIOUS. If I'm not mistaken, it's the first such one to have a damascus blade, plus a much more substantial amount of "engraved" ivory. Again, it's absolutely one wonderful piece.

And as for Martin's Lake, as mentioned, Hey, it's a Lake! That says it all!

A agree with you completely, Bob, this small knife was a classic beauty!

I also think that both Julie and Curt chose beautiful steel patterns
for all their Damascus blades...

A very worthy recipient. That Horseman's knife was really something. I spoke with more than one person who just drooled over that one.

I believe he won that award before, too, so that is really quite an testament to his work.

Does anyone have a photo of C. Gray Taylor's Horseman's knife?

Here are two of Dr. Fred Carter's AKI knives. They were photographed
by Francesco Pachi and I just received the pictures from Fred...

Truly elegant beauty. Classic Fred Carter knives - instantly recognisable
as his sole authorship knife art...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

The work shown is amazing. I am really excited to tenatively have Fred Carter coming to the Big Sky Show in 2012 and teaching at the hammer in. I am really looking forward to seeing him teach in person.

Here is one of C Gray Taylor's beautiful AKI folders,
photographed by Francesco Pachi.

It is the "Quill Knife" with three blades... Length is 3 1/4" closed.
