Here's the response I got from Birchwood Casey. Didn't really answer the question:
"We dont recommend that you use any item blackened with our products for food preparation.
Its possible that it would be ok, but we dont know enough about it to be 100% sure.
We dont have any experience using our products on items for food preparation; is out of our prescribed use."
Hell, I knew that before I asked.![]()
It's certainly a nice price. I can't find a OD one though, just a khaki one. Well, on the watery site I shop at anyways.
I have been looking at the 5.11 Rush 24s a bit too, I like them. I dunno, so many packs out there...I wish I could find a brick and mortar that had some of these in stock so I could try them on, Im hard to fit.

I did try using a makeshift block, but it didn't work well, as you can see. I don't have a regular sanding block. I do hate that the bevel got sanded down. At first, I was trying to be careful to not even sand the scandi, but I kept hitting it on accident, said the hell with it.I like where that 'muk is going.
I'd recommend the following for finish work:
1) use a block as discussed earlier, but brush STRAIGHT from handle to tip, do not follow the curve of the blade.
2) use a FLAT hard block, and do not round the scandi bevel shoulder unless you intend to convex it.
3) sharpen the scandi bevel afterward
That will maintain the attractive distinction btw the two features of the blade, and if you brush straight it will have a pleasing uniformity.
If you really want the bevel to pop, brush/sharpen it a different direction from the blade flat.
I really like this muk, pretty cool blade. I'm not touching the Hudson Bay, other than the Danish Oil. Really like it the way it is.Im starting to like the shape of that condor more and more warrior. Good job on the mods so far. Can't wait to see what you do with the Hudson bay!
Speaking of the grind, I put this in my Lansky, and even though the grinds look somewhat even, they were definitely off. The 25° would hit it fairly well on one side, but not the other.3) sharpen the scandi bevel afterward
light honey and garnish.

If anybody doubts the value of recycling, I submit that homemade junk metal tastes WAY better when converted to homemade baklava.
In an unrelated note, the BK-5 seems like it would be an awesome watermelon knife, but in reality the thickness and coating are a bit of a drag when you get deep. Good for slaying, not for flaying. Yes, I'm thinking about a BK15 again....

$30 knife, I'm not overly concerned about it really. I just need to sharpen it up good, and I'll be done with it. That Danish Oil kicks ass. Really like it.Dubs that Danish oil made a HUGE difference. I really like it. The Muk would probably kick ass Convex too worse comes to worse, but it looks good.
