The "Whatever" Thread

we had a lot of rain last night, some of it frozen as it came down - but it's sunny & 35, so nothing stuck.
OTOH, SWMBO convinced me it was finally time to fire up the furnace, as she lay on the couch in sweats, slippers, 2 blankets, and a dog....

Getting snow here today - fairly heavy and blowing - about 2 inches on the ground and still coming down -

No tv (direct tv - there is moisture in the air so the satellite signal can't get to me), and my phone pooped two days ago....

My internet still works though, so I got that going for me which is nice......

BWAhahahahahaaaa - The instant I typed that last line - internet pooped - lol - was down for 10 minutes....

A good example of why I only take deposits on special orders. I don`t need a reputation like this, but he still gets orders!

When I first decided to jump into getting a handmade knife + sheaths etc I got burned and just about gave up but through FB found this forum and then found JK Knives which restored my faith and now I have branched out a bit and have found some good people out there. You just have to do some research and be careful.

he also sells through a couple of dealers -- and they always get their orders on time!
and this is why I don't have any of his knives -- at one point I had 2 but decided I didn't need that kind of secondhand karma.
I've seen a couple other makers with similar kinds of issues who are no longer here, one of which even had federal mail fraud charges filed against him...

He is well known for that but people really like his bushcrafter model and a few others. He has been really lucky so far honestly for not getting in trouble. I have one of his bushcrafters and it's a great blade. I only bought it because the great sheath Tal Made for it and the sick edge he had put on it. still one of my favorite woods blades but I would absolutely never buy from Dan directly.

Not all knifemakers have Johns work ethic and morals that is for sure. But then again that is why most of us hang out in here and buy his stuff instead :)

I got a koster neck knife and a Muck before he got in too deep. Nice knives, but you sure can't beat the quality, variety, and quick turnaround out of John's shop.

spent 4 hours of quality time with a large chainsaw this afternoon -- cleared a couple hundred feet of fenceline of its coating of honeysuckle, juniper, and common briar.
only 300 feet to go before we can start replacing the fence...

I bet you sleep well tonight.

oddly enough, I barely slept at all -- OTOH, took advantage of the nice weather and bailed out of work at noon.
was home and chainsaw fired back up by 1:30.
by 4 the other 300' of fenceline were cleared up and the 20' wide "lilac of doom" at the corner of the property got a buzz cut, too, so folks coming up to the intersection will be able to see if there is any oncoming traffic from the South or East.

dinner tonight was tikka masala (Aldi's sold it as a kit this fall) and a beer.

Thanks all, theybare all saber ground. One of them has its materisks oicked out for it but im still planning for the other two...ummmm

;)
